The money we raise from Kickstarter will in large part go to developing our teen Rock School outreach programs, which were first launched in the Summer of 2010. Our Fall session is just wrapping up, but for our Winter program we'd like to expand what we can offer, especially in the realm of scholarships and instrument donations for kids with less means.
We've seen too many public schools cutting music programs and feel those that ARE still in place don't address many facets of contemporary music and styles. Our rock school allows kids to choose the music THEY want to play, which comes directly from the soundtrack of their lives. After voting on songs, they work closely with an instructor to prepare for their concert.
About Little Wing: Disenfranchised by a sleepy, one-dimensional local music and art scene, artist rosS Hamlin opened Little Wing in June of 2010 to serve as a laboratory, classroom, incubator and propagator of ALL types of music, art and demographics, especially the under-21 folks. In collaboration with Candyman, a local music store with 40+ years under its belt, and publicist Julie Winson, rosS is hoping to keep this effort afloat to enrich the musical and artistic lives of all who pass through its doors.
