This is the 2nd annual zine fair in the city of Pittsburgh that is created to encourage independent expression, raise literacy awareness & promote the support of local creative talent. Zines are one of the last remaining forms of unregulated human expression and the resulting diversity of subject matter is enormous. Because of this, anyone can participate allowing for a greater exchange of ideas and a basis for building a stronger community. The event aims to foster an experience in which everyone of all ages, gender, background or race can engage self-published creators, zine collectors, local retailers and other local organizations in a relaxed environment.
The 2012 Pittsburgh Zine Fair is set to take place on CMU Campus, University Center Building, Wiegand Gymnasium on September 22nd from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
This event exhibits work from local and regional zine and comic makers in addition to providing activities like unique workshops, demonstrations and thought-provoking panel discussions. Overall the zine fair strives to foster an environment to engage independent artists and writers in an experience that encourages personal expression along with gaining valuable knowledge of our community. This event is FREE to the public and will feature entertainment from local DJs, access to vast collections of zines from local organizations and lots of fun people!
We are seeking to raise additional funding to help provide compensation to artists/facilitators/readers involved in the event, purchase supplies necessary for workshops/demonstrations and ensure the success of this event annually. If our goal is reached it will be a huge step towards making sure that the future of the Pittsburgh Zine Fair is stable and will continue to be a presence for the community of Southwestern Pennsylvania.
