THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO HELPED ME MEET MY GOAL! YOUR LOVE AND SUPPORT ARE OVERWHELMING! CONTACT US AT HTTP://WWW.LITTLEPETAL.NET
THE NEW STRETCH GOAL IS $10,000
This additional funding will be used to make business cards, place a banner advertising Little Petal on offbeatbride.com, hire professional make-up artists/hair designers for each day of Comic-Con, hire a photographer to take professional shots of each dress, and to hire a web designer to build a more elaborate website. Lastly, the additional funding will go towards cost of labor for the many, many hours it takes to construct each Comic-Con wedding dress, as this was never factored into the original goal (only cost of material).
Little Petal has one, very clear mission statement:
Never be boring. Always feel beautiful. Anything could happen.
We make custom wedding dresses out of the most beautiful and highest quality fabrics, fusing traditional bridal silhouettes with color accents reflecting comic book, science fiction, and horror references.
Buying an alternative wedding dress has meant having to settle for a tacky, ill-fitting gown comprised of cheap fabrics. This is an unacceptable compromise to have to make to avoid wearing a traditional white gown. Little Petal dresses are primarily silk and completely handmade in Brooklyn. We focus on every detail to ensure that the quality and craftsmanship are that of the best traditional wedding dresses. Our company goal is simply to make you look damn good on your wedding day.
WHAT A LITTLE PETAL DRESS ENTAILS
All dresses are completely custom. This means we recommend three in-person appointments in order to get the dress just right. The first appointment (which can take place anywhere, and can be done remotely for non-New York-based brides) will be to discuss your vision and take your measurements. The second appointment will take place at the dressmaking studio in Bushwick to fit a muslin -- or basic draft of the dress. The final appointment at the dressmaking studio in Bushwick involves trying on the dress for final adjustments to make sure it fits just right. If you are anxious and want/need any additional appointments, that can be arranged as well. It is important to us that our customers are as comfortable as possible. We work completely around your schedule, so it does not make a difference what time is most convenient for you, whether it be 8am, 6pm, 2am, or whatever.
If you have an idea of how you envision your dress, please email before your first appointment so we have time to create several sketches based on your concept- which will be altered until you are happy. Alternatively, we are always thinking of new designs, which you can choose from. The first appointment is also when we choose fabrics!
To ensure this is a stress free experience, tell us as soon as you have your wedding date so we can mark our calendar, even if you are not completely certain you want a Little Petal dress. The time frame to create a dress is one month, as long as we have had your wedding date in our calender for three months. To minimize on alterations, finishing the dress closer to the date is preferred, however if you are more comfortable picking it up months earlier, we accommodate that as well.
WHY CHOOSE A LITTLE PETAL DRESS
Many women do not feel that a traditional white gown suits their personality, but they are fearful of their parents' and friends' opinions if they do not go the traditional route, as well as of the risk of being saddled with a subpar dress. At Little Petal, we want to make sure not only you, but your mom, dad, mother- and-father-in-law, fiancé, sister, brother, best friend, college roommate, grade school buddy, five year old niece, worst enemy who is dating your friend who was invited, and pet are impressed. It is very important to us that our gowns still have the feel of a wedding dress, and not a costume, which is why we use silk. We want you to look beautiful and feel beautiful. We want your preppy friends just as jealous of your dress as your punk friends. We produce only impeccably lovely gowns. It's your wedding day. You should get to wear what makes you happy.
Everyone deserves a custom garment at least once in his or her lifetime. The entire experience is incredibly fun and leaves you with a smile on your face. At Little Petal, every time a girl chooses us for the most special day of her life, it is the most wonderfully unmatched feeling in the world.
ABOUT THIS PROJECT
Little Petal goes to New York Comic-Con! We will be creating 5-6 comic book-themed dresses to be worn (not sold) at this year's Comic-Con. You can catch us there from October 11-14. The goal is to get people to realize they do not have to settle for anything less than amazing on their wedding day. The gals who attend these conventions are our target customers because they are not fearful of wearing non-traditional dresses. We want to show them that they can resemble Wonder Woman, Princess Leia, or Vampirella on their wedding day AND look amazing doing it. We want to give them an in-person experience so they can feel the difference in the fabrics we use, see all the high quality details, truly understand the difference in fit, and talk to someone who shares their passion for the comic book medium.
In order to do this, because these are not dresses for customers, we need:
- Cost of material
- Cost of weekend badge passes
We are currently in the process of measuring the ladies who will be attending NYCC in our dresses and creating muslins- first drafts of the dresses.
Additionally, to make this project and future projects smoother and more efficient, we need to purchase:
- An industrial sewing machine such as http://www.repair--parts.com/Meta-Discussion-/Consew-7360-single-needle-industrial-sewing-machine.php5
- An industrial iron/ironing board such as http://www.diytrade.com/china/pd/10289905/ironing_table_ironing_board_iron_boiler.html
- A professional cutting table such as http://www.southstarsupply.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=1470
