Although Little Man’s music is present day modern rock, the late 60’s early ’70’s classic influences have always shone through. The natural way about me, especially with personal style and music, just seems to jive with this era. I believe there is something very special about vinyl records, too. Many of my favorite recordings, I feel, are best heard on vinyl, such as Fleetwood Mac’s Rumors, Neil Young’s Harvest, T. Rex’s Electric Warrior, Bowie’s Ziggy Stardust, Rod Stewart’s Never A Dull Moment, any Beatles album and many others. I grew up listening to this stuff and our new album reflects that for sure. This will be our 5th full length release.
Here is sampler of some of the songs you'll hear on Original Face:
"Holy #%it. I love it!" - Jason Nagel, 96.3 KTWIN DJ
"...can I just say WOW! It's like you've made a record just for me." - Mary Lucia, 89.3 The Current DJ.
Vinyl is an analog medium that provides a warmer sound and a fuller stereo spectrum. It’s a more physical experience to hold an LP in your hand: you gaze at the huge art work, read the credits, pull the record out of the sleeve, lay the record on the player and place the needle on it. It’s a brilliant, almost sacred, way to maximize the enjoyment of music. The new album is called Original Face. It was recorded and mixed right here in Minnesota by Kris Johnson at Flowers Studios in Minneapolis, along with Sean Gilchrist on drums and Brian Herb on bass. My good friend Ed Tinley, who has worked on many previous Little Man albums, mastered the album. Becca Sabot took some great photos for it and my good friend Sondra Mann packaged the whole thing together for us. We are all very proud of how these songs have blossomed, and although the length is just right for vinyl, we would never have considered pressing it due to the high cost. That is, until now through Kickstarter.
Big drummer Sean Gilchrist: "Many of my fondest and most vivid memories involve listening to records on my dad's old silver system. I think even before I knew how to ride a bike I knew how to work that thing! Now that I have my record player going again, I can't believe I ever went without it. The sound is so warm, so human. I've always wanted to record music that ended up on a big ol' LP, but thought it was but a pipe dream. This chance is so exciting, and the fact that it is the best recording I've been a part of makes it even more fantastic."
Big bass player Brian Herb: "CD's are last millennium technology, a dying medium. Everyone enjoys the convenience of modern digital media as it exists in the ether. But nostalgia draws us to the tactile experience of hard copy books and records. Nothing beats vinyl as a way to take us back to a time in our lives when music meant everything. It was how we defined ourselves, how we made sense of the world. It still can be. I often tell people that, for me, Little Man is a vocabulary of classic rock, reinterpreted for today. There can be no better way to experience the new Little man record than on vinyl. Please help us make that happen."
Consider this to be a pre-sale with benefits. You wont find the mp3 digital version of this album this low in price anywhere else. Along with basic packages that include digital and/or vinyl versions of Original Face, premium options are also available. A $100 reward comes with a never before released live recording of one of my favorite shows: a date in New York City from the Soulful Automatic tour. It not only features fan favorites, but also songs that were never recorded in the studio! In addition, other rewards include private performances [solo and full band], a "vintage shop hop" to spend time with me at the places that help cloth me for photo shoots and some even include my own Italian cooking. You may have seen some of my Facebook posts on the matter. Forgetabout it, I’m a good cook!
******** Please note that your cash amount ONLY gets accepted if we reach our goal. When the goal is reached, you will receive a short, simple Kickstarter survey so we can gather the information we need to ensure we properly get your reward(s) out to you.********
Your donations will cover first pressing of our LP and shipping. If we go over our goal, donations will go into promoting the new album and things like gas and hotel expenses on the road, so it's ok to keep showing your support!
There is also another simple way you can help: please share this Kickstarter campaign with others through social media and word of mouth. Spreading the word would make this goal even more possible, and would definitely result in warm fuzziness all around. I am very excited about this new opportunity, utilizing Kickstarter as the vessel, and Little Man fan support as the fuel, to hear these songs as they deserve to be heard- just like so many of my (and likely your) heroes. Please help us realize this dream of committing the Little Man album Original Face to vinyl.
