Our minimum goal is $7,500 but the more we raise the more we can do!
We need your help to continue this spellbinding work that has defied odds, sliced through cultural barriers, improves lives and celebrates creativity with open hearts and minds. By supporting you will be helping the individuals of the choir get a foot on the ladder, improve their life and share their uplifting talents with the world. We have done much of the heavy lifting already as the soft launch of the Voice of Maasai music album was released in November 2012 and has proved to be a success. But now we need your help for the official album release and the continued success and sustainability of the work.
We released the soft launch in November 2012 with a goal to test-market and collect valuable feedback our first year. Many of you backed us by purchasing the album and attending our red carpet events and we couldn’t be more grateful. We now need your help to launch the official album that includes the original enchanting and upbeat music with a new collective, universal and captivating design as we now intend to reach millions of customers and music lovers throughout the world.

WHAT IS OUR MISSION Produce a marketable album that will help to showcase talent, preserve Maasai cultural traditions and support individual empowerment goals for the active members of the Voice of Maasai Choir in Remiti Tanzania.
THE MAASAI The indigenous Maasai, famous as herders and warriors, live in the semi-arid Rift Valley Region of Kenya and Tanzania. Traditionally the Maasai have always been a proud and independent tribe that did not depend on cultivated land and a cash economy, rather they lived off the blood, milk and meat that their cattle provided them. They own large herds of cattle, sheep and goats which they follow seasonally in search of new grazing grounds and water sources near the wildlife areas of East Africa, now known as game parks. Since the colonial period, the Maasai have faced numerous challenges including government efforts to “develop” the Maasai and/or promote the Maasai as tourist attractions rather than indigenous people of the region. Unfortunately these efforts have displaced many Maasai people and create large cultural and economic gaps with few bridges to assist with change. Through the Voice of Maasai music album, we help to raise awareness and give voice to the Remiti Maasai who favor opportunity, education, good governance, healthcare and progress but whom also want to be treated justly and preserve their culture, traditions and land for the young and elder generations.
WHY IT MATTERS This album is used as a tool for individual empowerment using a “ground-up” not a “top-down” model. Together we work to expand the redundant tale of woe often characterized to those who are different from ourselves whether it is through economic disparities and/or cultural differences. The Maasai are using their talents and music to express their connection with the land and the issues they face.
The journey has been lined with obstacles and matched by numerous barriers, but the ultimate goal to celebrate individual talents to help improve lives is fostered by the fundamental feelings of hope that this work has stimulated. Our kindred spirits, appreciation for sharing talent and love of cultural music started our friendship and fuels our progress but our success is driven by combining our skills to meet measurable goals.
HISTORY The forcible Voice of Maasai choir and Jessey Jansen, owner of Little Lady Studio started this collaboration in 2011 after Jessey volunteered in Tanzania. Following a performance, a patient start-up dialogue and a gut-instinct, Jessey returned to the US with an idea, to record the choir and publish an album. She spent the next year remotely coordinating logistics with Tanzanian, US and International contacts, and the summer of 2012 she returned to Tanzania for the recording in Arusha.
Jessey has since returned to Tanzania multiple times and focuses on advancing creative entrepreneurs in Tanzania to help celebrate a contemporary and thriving creative energy.

Risks and challenges
Although this process has presented Jessey with numerous rewards, challenges and obstacles, she has remained firm to quality control and flexible to social context issues. She has taken on the risk of all the expenses involved, both financial and emotional, which has resulted in a long-term pursuit that celebrates human spirit and perseverance. At this point, the biggest risk for you is making a contribution to something good that may change a small part of you - and someone else - forever. And/or possibly becoming entranced when listening to the upbeat rhythms of the Maasai!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
