The Glorious Book of Curious Cocktails
One day my little boy saw me illustrating cocktails for a drinks menu I was illustrating and he started laughing.
"What's so funny?" I asked.
"You don't put limes and lemons in drinks!" He said, sniggering.
So I asked him what he would put into a drink. The following hour was filled with no holds barred ideas: snails, piranhas, orangutan poo and other hilariously disgusting ingredients. We used lots of descriptive words, alliteration and onomatopoeia as we wrote down our silly recipes. By having fun learning became a happy by-product. I decided to turn our ideas into a book containing ridiculous recipes, fun activity pages and real recipes that children can make using edible ingredients! The activity pages teach children all about onomatopoeia, alliteration and other literary devices. Children are encouraged to use language to invent their own silly recipes and draw pictures, developing design skills and imagination.
There are also edible recipes so that children can work with real ingredients and experiment with working with different materials and measurements. Children are encouraged to describe how ingredients look and feel.
All the content of the book is entirely unique and has been created by myself, including the font and hand lettered headings. The book has been edited and is ready to send to be printed as a beautiful hardcover book with 44 pages. There is also an additional A4 20 page activity book which expands on some of the activities within the book with additional colouring pages and other fun things! The book is aimed at 5-10 year olds but there is really no age limit!
"This is not just a children's book. I laughed so much."
"You have inspired me to start drawing and writing again." (Margaret, age 98!)
"This book is both hilarious and disgusting. My son loves it."
"Imaginative, funny, educational and beautifully illustrated."
Lots of children and adults alike have been inspired to make crazy recipes after seeing this book. Here are some of their drawings:
