About this project
Every card's face is illustrated, not just the Jacks, Queens and Kings. Every face is split into two illustrations which you could equate as 104 illustrations in this deck plus some extras. The art is drawing in a comic illustrated style with each suit sort of having it's own sub-style to match the element/color scheme.
The story or theme behind these cards is elements. Each suit in this deck represents an element. Diamonds is represented by Earth, Clubs by Air, Hearts by Fire, and Spades by Water.
The Card's Paper Quality:
The illustrations will be printed on high quality cards with an air cushioned finish great for magic tricks, shuffling and dealing. The cards will be printed by The United States Playing Card Company on Bee card stock.
The Goal Of This Campaign:
The goal is to take the illustrations that I have made and get them printed on high quality poker cards for use. In order to do so at a cost that's reasonable for even one deck, I have to purchase them at a mass quantity. If you're willing to be one of the backers of this project you will help make that happen and hopefully you will be a backer that receives at least one deck of cards too! Thanks ahead if you should back this project!
Why Put Art On Poker Cards?!
As an artist I have always wanted to have my work printed inside of a publication or a coffee table book but the one thing I've noticed about coffee table books is that they end up UNDER the table collecting dust after they were only looked at a couple of times.
Poker cards have a use in magic tricks, gaming and for those collecting art. I decided to make my art on poker cards so that not only do I get to make a huge library of art to give to someone but now the art will be taken out and shared with someone else every time the cards are played with, shown in a magic card trick performance or just shown to friends/family that just appreciate art in general.
Unique Faces On Every Card Of The 4 Suits? What does that mean?
Not only does each face of every suit have an illustration, but because there's a invisible line dividing the card in half, you could say there's not 52 illustrations but ONE HUNDRED AND FOUR! (104). And that's not even including the joker cards and extras i have thrown in.
On some face cards on a regular pack of playing cards, the illustration may just be copied and flipped on the other half of the card. My cards have a unique illustration on both halves of every face of each of the 4 suits.
The total amount of cards in this deck is 56: What are they?
-- 52 for all the suits, clubs, diamonds, hearts and spades.
-- 2 Joker cards.
Each joker card has a special illustration representing the 4 suits as a wild card. No Jester here.
-- 2 Special Cards.
The two special cards will serve as a purpose for poker players.
One of the cards will serve as a bottom-of-the-deck dealer's cut card. This is used so that once a deck has been shuffled and cut, the card is placed at the bottom of the shuffled deck so no one can see the bottom card as the dealer deals the cards to players. I've seen some dealers lift their hand on accident revealing the bottom card; this helps prevent that from occurring.
The second special card is the dealer button. When playing poker, a dealer usually moves a dealer button around so that the dealer will know where to deal the cards.
Info for those who pledge at the Card and Shirt level:
The art will be printed on a high quality American Apparel brand shirt. I have made shirts in the past with my art on it on cheaper material and they just don't feel good. If you're going to wear some art, it should feel as good as it looks! I will send you a survey to fill out with a shirt size and inquiry of which card face or back you want printed on it. You will also have your choice of V-Neck or Crew Neck.
If you love art, play poker, do magic tricks or are a collector of cards then you're on the right page. I've made it a mission to create ideas and turn them into living portraits but not on any regular canvas, in this case a deck of cards. If you love art, you will be overwhelmed by the amount of creativity illustrated, if you do magic card tricks, your viewers will have increased visual enjoyment, if you play poker, these cards will be more fun to look at then the normal repeating icons you're used to. Lastly, If you know anyone who might like this deck, this would make a perfect gift as no one has it yet!
Risks and challenges
The only issue I think I might have is if I get overwhelmed by lots of backers and having to stuff tons of envelopes. However, this is a good thing and hopefully I can enlist some friends to help ;-DLearn about accountability on Kickstarter
These cards will be printed by the United States Playing Card Company on casino-quality Bee card stock with a air cushioned texture feel.Great for magicians and card playing dealers and shufflers.
If the project doesn't reach 100% at the end of the campaign, what will happen to backers? Will they receive a reward?
The way kickstarter works is that it's an all-or-nothing crowdfunding campaign. If the campaign doesn't reach the goal, no one is charged and no one receives anything and I cry. Kidding about the crying part.;-D
