Production ramping up.


Production is progressing well and although the line capacity isn't optimised at the 1500 unit per day target, we're now well underway with a new batch of 3,500 units leaving today with the remaining 14,000+ units over the next two week period as capacity doubles. Below is a quick snapshot of the ex-factory schedule. 

Here's a quick shot of the 3,500 units that left today bound for regions all across the world, in no priority order after our UK and Sweden stock. Speaking of, if you're within these two regions, you'll all have tracking numbers by Friday if you haven't already received. 

In the meantime, you might have noticed we soft launched the iOS app and sent the Virtual Bulb live. We hope they're fun to play with and give you a sense of how LIFX works. The Android app also goes live Thursday. There are limited features in both versions of the app, but a steady stream of things coming in the next few weeks as we roll in the big features - and integrations. Here's a quick demo for the virtual bulb if you'd like to have a play! 

In the meantime we're also shooting a new video with Sandwich video to show the bulb in action. Keep an eye out for that on our website in the next few weeks.

      This is pathetic!!! Virgin here in Dubai , UAE, already sells the lamps and I have not even received mine???
      What kind of reward is that?? Don't we even get the privilege of enjoying the product first as funders?? I feel cheated.

      I am not sure why the majority of questions aren't answered straight up... The answers often dance around with a lot of digital 'hems and haws'. Has anyone in the United States of America received a bulb yet?

      Just to clarify that email was for batch two. I.e. If you're a KS backer it only applies to your second order via which is batch two.

      So what is the turnaround of the globes leaving the factory and the email/ tracking being sent? I suppose because i have 2 gun metal grey, bayonet cap Lifx globes i will be one of the last to get my globes probably sometime close to christmas.

      That "after Christmas" date is for folks that pre-ordered after the Kickstarter campaign ended. You should get all the bulbs you 'backed' here on Kickstarter.

      I'm not sure if it will actually be in February but it is after the new year and it came from an email from lifx. There have been so many brush offs I'm a little perturbed about the many delays since their first projection of last march. Here is the content of it.
      "You're probably aware that our Kickstarter backers (Batch 1) are now starting to receive their LIFX orders. Your Batch 2 bulbs are due to ship directly after these have all been sent out.

      Our manufacturing process has a testing stage to ensure your bulbs meet the highest standards. Our custom test hardware and software automatically checks no less then 138 different parameters for each light bulb (versus the industry standard of just a few tests). We rely on this so you can experience high quality, consistent results from your LIFX bulbs.

      During the initial manufacturing run, this testing process has taken longer per bulb than we anticipated. This has resulted in slower production output than we had hoped. As a result, we have been working hard to improve the manufacturing output while maintaining our quality testing.

      The downside is that the bulk of our Batch 2 orders are likely to ship soon after Christmas.

      We hope that you support us in this decision to maintain quality over speed but understand that there may be some of you that are not prepared to wait any longer. We fully understand this and our policy to offer refunds on pre-orders prior shipping still stands.

      We appreciate the confidence you placed in us by pre-ordering LIFX and we are doing everything we can to get the bulbs into your hands as soon as possible.

      Ok so what is this news about having to wait until after Xmas into February to get our bulbs? I don't understand how some were shipped out and now we have to wait even longer to get the rest of our bulbs. Someone is not being honest here!

      @Hector: Thanks! I gave up searching there yesterday. Finally an app for Android! The app does not have so many features yet, but most importantly - I can now control my bulb and it works great for what it currently offers!
      Just waiting for batch #2... :-)

      ~7500 this week out as described. Should clarify the above table is week beginning of usually these are ready toward the back-end of the week sometimes sooner though. Factory's doing x3 shifts 6 days p/w at the moment.

      Hi, is there any bill included in the package? By German law, it has to be on the outside of the packet. If not I have to show them a bill - so this brings me to the question what exactly did I pay for? I have to pay $50 for shipping - but how much worth are the light bulbs - how much did I invest in the assembly line and get the light bulbs in return? ;)
      Can I get an "official" bill for customs?


      ps: I don't have any tracking numbers, but I will wait patiently ;)

      I'm in Perth, Australia. Got my tracking email on Friday - AND MY GLOBES TODAY!
      4x White Bayonet fittings. I can't wait to get home and plug them in.

      Now all I need is the Android App so I can turn them off to sleep :)

      Just been shipped email received Wed 27 Nov, I'll probably receive the unit some time next week. The Android app that was to go live on 28 Nov is still not up. I certainly hope it goes up before I receive my unit.

      In my experience, it takes between 2 and 12 hours to get a response from Fast turn around time, especially for a startup.

      @Claes, if you check out the comment (in the last 24 hrs) from Phil on the Comments page you will see that they have committed to refunding the difference in tax that should have been charged, vs what is being charged.

      Did I understand it right, I've bought 10 pieces for $49 each but your customs agent have wrote $79 in the customs paper for all customers in UK and Sweden!? What exactly is going on and how are you going to compensate us for this (if it's true)? Is it possible to get all money back (if I not pick them up)?

      Can the LIFX team inform us how they are going to ship to Europe?I have seen the comments below that the ship from Hong Kong with DHL Express and everybody is paying customs and VAT.In that case having pledged $392+40 for shipment I may pay over €150 in customs and VAT! If you don't ship within Europe to European backers PLEASE INFORM US so that we can ask for a refund!!!We have mentioned about shipment methods but you haven't heard us or reply in detail!

      Hector Silva, yes! It shines really bright, but is not too fun without an app to control it with. I did expect the delay to be a bit higher when powered on but it powers in in 1-2 seconds using the power switch.
