Mini-update: 3000 units ex factory. iOS app approved.

Just a quick update on shipping progress. The initial batch of E27 Whites are ex-factory and being picked and packed in our Hong Kong fulfilment centre ready for Airmail deliveries over the next few days. These first units are Europe bound with UK and Sweden being tested first, so if you're in either of those two markets keep your eyes peeled for your tracking number! These two countries represented about 16% of our total units, so we feel they're a good starting point to test bulk shipment but not our largest markets e.g. US (43%). Our iOS app has also been approved and we'll send this live on Monday with the Android app getting a few more tweaks weekend. We'll let you know once each one hits the respective stores! There'll be more news on additional countries, shipping news and progress as it comes to hand next week. Mike and David working around the clock supporting the factory team; co-ordinating packaging; pick and pack; getting stuff out the door, booking the flights for air mail delivery and sending us photo's like below. In the meantime I'm off home, and pretty happy to be spending some time with the family for a few days!

Thanks Jonathan for the review. I think I will buy a couple more Hue bulbs. I hope your review is incorrect or they at least they improve the app.

    2. Jonathan Hurst on November 27, 2013

ok, so i have got my bulb and am using the iPhone app. First impressions..

      1. Packaging of the bulb could have been better, it was rattling around inside a bigger box. However it does work.

      2. The bulb itself does not have a premium feel like that of the Phillips Hue, the bulb cover feels like cheap plastic rather than glass (that said once installed how much will I touch it?!)

      3. The light is considerably brighter than a Phillips Hue, this is the biggest saving grace so far!

      4. The app is shockingly poor by comparison to the Phillips Hue, inc no integration to 3rd party software such as IFTTT. All i can do is change some colours, % of brightness while inside my house.

Point 4 is the biggest disappointment, because if we go back to the original sales pitch then we get the impression of a decent app to support the hardware.
There is none of this, and this is not really satisfactory! I do not appear to have anywhere that I can control my lifx from outside of my wireless network (as suggested in the original pitch), I have no way of setting my lifx to a sunrise / set timer (as suggested in the original pitch), I have no way to link to my music, etc etc! oh, and while I am on a roll remember the survey we filled out as backers... .....

The funding was there to separate hardware design / production from software design / production, i.e. enough people with the right skills in the right areas, wasn't it?

This may sound harsh, however there are 3 elements that control a project which this is.
1.Budget (which the lifx team had plenty of), 2.Time (which the lifx went over the original plan), and Scope (which the team have fallen short of). Personally I would have waited longer to have the scope delivered..

I am sure all of these challenges will be fixed but I feel a little let down from where expectations were set!

I apologise if any of my comments are incorrectly stated, I think they are correct! Hopefully I am re-setting expectations for others and providing valuable feedback to the lifx team..

With everything said it is still brighter than my Hue bulbs (hardware), software can always be enhanced!!

I'm very jealous of the iOS users who can play with the . Us Android users are still waiting for the app to appear in our market. Can anyone testify to their app usage with the virtual bulb?

    4. Dean Nelson on November 24, 2013

So.......When are we thinking Ill get mine here in the good ole USA?........June maybe?

    5. Tommy Frössman on November 24, 2013

I still haven't got any confirmation that my bulbs have been sent (sweden). Any idea when the bulbs will be sent out ? it's been 14 days or so since the last update regarding shipping.

    8. Shane Poppleton on November 21, 2013

still no LifX app in the Android play store :-(

    9. derCobold on November 20, 2013

Wasn't there any browser/airplay implementation of a virtual bulb?

    10. Mat Barrie on November 19, 2013

Can download the app in NZ, but it's pointless because it just sits at a "Set up your bulb" screen. Can't actually see what the app is like until you've got bulbs in hand :/

    11. Anthony on November 19, 2013

The uk lifx app version is definitely available in the App Store, downloading now

      Sooooo this year maybe???

    16. Razvan Angelescu on November 17, 2013

For the moment the app is not available in US also. It seems that is not uploaded yet in iTunes Store.

    17. Kai Wakerman Powell on November 16, 2013

Oh. No worries. Must be still unreleased then I guess.

    18. Bryan on November 16, 2013

When I tried to download the app, it told me that its not available in the US.

    19. Kai Wakerman Powell on November 16, 2013

Why is the app available only in the US? Keen to download it and have a gaze over in Australia.

    20. Claes Ström on November 16, 2013

I pledged for four pearl white and six gun metal grey E27's, would you deliver all at once with some delay or the white ones first (I live in Sweden)?

    21. Jason Pasierski on November 16, 2013

Really sucks that after all this time, I ended up getting a Windows App for me makes me disappointed in my overall situation.

    22. Fredrik Hed on November 16, 2013

Great news - I'm a happy Swede right now. Keep it coming :-)

    23. Fredrik Molnar on November 15, 2013

It's a kickstarter. You must expect delays and whatever, it's an integral part of the whole Kickstarter-model. Small companies/individuals producing something for the masses. Sure, the original plan was March 2013, but that was probably based on the original amount of devices, and that sure escalated quickly.

What about shipping to Kyrgyzstan!?!? Oh my god, how could you not mention shipment dates to Kyrgyzstan. This is literally the worst thing ever in humanity's history. Where are my things that I want NOW NOW NOW!

    25. Johan Jonsson on November 14, 2013

As a Swede I'm happy, just make sure no extra shipping and customs are added, paid something like $44 extra to collect my Pebble watch (also on Kickstarter) earlier and that sucked big time.

    26. Robert Faulkner on November 14, 2013

@Sarawuth - From the update : "There'll be more news on additional countries, shipping news and progress as it comes to hand next week."

    27. Cody L on November 14, 2013

Phillips is garbage compared to this. Why everyone keeps considering them when they know this is coming is beyond me.

    28. Sarawuth K on November 14, 2013

And what's about Thailand? You don't mention anything. Please let's me know when I can expect shipment.

    29. Robert Faulkner on November 14, 2013

It seems odd to be upset that some countries are getting first BECAUSE it's 9 months late. The fact that it's 9 months late doesn't make it any more sensible to ship every bulb off the factory to a different country :)

You can certainly feel upset that it's 9 months late... but I think it's an exaggeration that you can get the same thing out of Phillips... I really do think this is a superior product (for a variety of reasons). And either way they have to ship in a way that makes sense logistically.

As someone from the US I'm happy for you guys... and jealous!

    30. Tji Sousa on November 14, 2013

I'm not happy at all.. 9 months late and some countries are getting first than others.. Luxembourg will be for sure one of the latest because we are a really small country and everybody is already using the phillips bulbs while i'm waiting for this..

    31. Vagelis Fragkos on November 14, 2013

That was a great update. One question though...Since these 2 countries represent 16% of the total units and other countries like Greece,Germany,Ireland,Italy etc are also in EU, did you arrange your logistics in a way that the shipments will arrive to EU countries from another EU country,so that we won't pay customs? Please reply to that, because UK and Sweden are happy now but I don't know how happy they will be (an the rest of us in Europe) if we have to pay more for customs.(As I have mentioned before I pledged from 8Lifx which is about €45 each-Imagine how much it will finally cost if I also pay for customs...!)

    34. Caleb Wong on November 14, 2013

As they are not being tested and wrap in US, could I change it to HK and get free shipping if I'm in Hong Kong? And possibly when could I get it if I mail it to Hong Kong?

    35. Oskar Larsson on November 14, 2013

Does that mean that p.e. Germany and other European Countries will get their bulbs after UK, Sweden, US and the rest? Not happy at all, you are already nine months late. Sorry to be so grumpy but when you wait any longer I can buy them cheaper in the supermarket

    45. Victor on November 13, 2013

So, you guys ship the white ones first? What about gun metal? Also, being in the early bird means getting them earlier by any chance? Thanks for the update phil. Im sooo happy we ate finally getting them. Also, ifttt????

    46. Mary Carlin on November 13, 2013

2 ?? Will the iOS app be on the App Store or your own website?
Can we download BEFORE getting our LIFX bulbs?

Sorry if I am being silly.
