Say hello to my little friends!

As you'd know manufacturing has been powering along, and today I'm about to finalise my QC, and approve the manufacturing of 19,158 light bulbs. 1000 (Edison Screw) have been made already and I'm really happy with the end result. We finally get our FCC ID Thursday too, and with that, we have all the certifications needed in the key regions. Version one of the iOS app is complete and has been submitted for approval and the Android app early next week. We'll let you know once they're ready to download! The core functions will be in both apps, with an update to follow shortly after with whole kit and caboodle ;)

Our focus now shifts to the logistics: sequencing, line capacity, packaging, tracking numbers and delivery. At this stage it looks like the line is capable of producing 1,500 units per day. So during the course of the next two to three weeks - all items should be manufactured (less the GU10's) and on their way. I'll report back on accurate figures as they start rolling off - as I'm keen to see the day-to-day output and targets being met and providing each of you tracking numbers as your bulbs are ready. If you need your address changed, now's the final chance to let us know! (By emailing:

In the meantime the over whelming feeling is one of relief and excitement. From Friday we're shipping, and it's a massive thank-you to each and everyone of you for your patience, support making this happen and the encouragement, questions and comments along the way!

Whilst this is a big day, it's certainly not the last update from us by any means, there's still lots of work to do on shipping, customer support, manufacturing the GU10's and getting those to you, and of course batch two ships in the not too distant future. We're also finishing off and releasing the hacker kit and SDK so we can start engaging with all the smart and eager developers that want to build cool stuff! So, no rest for the team just yet, but we're all excited and have a fresh sense of purpose and energy now with this big box about to be ticked!

Packaging sample. After a few iterations including a triangle, decided to keep it simple. Note: another box goes over this one called a shipper to add extra protection.

I too need to change my address but can't see any way of doing that. Also, when are these likely to ship out because if it's going to be longer than 6 months, my address is going to change again!

You say to let you know if my address has changed - but I haven't seen a survey asking for it in the first place!

I'm sorry if I'm missing something - please point me in the write direction if I've missed it

I need up to update my delivery address how do I do that?

    5. Jamie Rytlewski on November 7, 2013

How is the API/SDK looking? Are you looking at IFTTT? I'd really like to integrate this with my SmartThings/Lockitron/Ninja Blocks.

Really looks like some of you guys don't even read the update. He says you can update your delivery address by emailing them at the address he gives. SEE end of the second paragraph.

And we are ALL excited for the Lifx team! Thank you for finishing this out!

Thanks for the update! Great news :D

      +1 on E14 fittings.
@Phil: How easy would it be for me to replace a E26 with a E14 (small fitting)? It seems that placing a E26->E14 converter on it would make the lifx bulbs a bit too tall.

@Hector Silva - The 1000 lumen photo actually looks like it is underexposed - this becomes apparent if you compare it to the 600 lumen photo above it where the the top plate and lamp holders are much better exposed. This suggests the camera was struggling with the brightness of the bulbs and had insufficient dynamic range to capture both the lamp fitting and the lit bulb in the latter photo, which bodes well for us.

In any event, at this point they are what they are - we'll all hopefully be seeing for ourselves in a few short weeks time (except those who have only ordered GU10 bulbs - they have to wait a little longer).

Well, this most recent update is quite a nice surprise to read. Finally it looks like we're all seeing the finish line

I am, however, still concerned about the area that these bulbs can light up. I'd like to see a photo of one bulb in a 8x8 room with only a single LIFX doing the lighting to get an idea of what these lights can really do.

As it stands it's not encouraging based on that '1000 lumens' photo. Sure looks like the light is being choked at the head of the bulb.

Funny thing, i keep looking for spots to use those, i found nothing in E21 but all are in E14... Let's hope ill find something before i get them !

    19. Mat Barrie on November 4, 2013

@Ross, the point of LIFX is that there IS NO HUB - they connect directly to your wifi, and there will be an SDK released that will let anything talk directly to a bulb.

    20. Ross Mason on November 4, 2013

Great news! Does anyone know what protocol is being used between the bulbs and the hub?

    21. Morgan Schapiro on November 4, 2013

Is it possible to change my shipping address to international? I moved over the span of this project :)

Are the bayonet caps being manufactured after the edison screws or along side? Just wondering if the same 2-3 week shipping guide goes for them too?
