Hey everyone!

KP here. As has been hinted at, we're going to be announcing another add-on today, and there's a bit of a special story behind this add-on. I'm going to have to explain a fair bit about this, but hopefully in the end it will all be worth it.

Back in the beginning, Limbo: Eternal War was envisioned as a two-faction product. The game was designed with the idea that future products (if the game was successful enough) would introduce other factions into the game, and we would be able to expand the range of options available to players.

One of the design issues with this approach is that this could result, in the longer term, with factions "stagnating". If the next product introduced two new factions, for instance, what about all the fans of the Humans and the Demons? When would they see new content? Although it wouldn't be a problem right now, it could serve to be one in the longer term, if and when the Limbo line expanded. Of course, this was a bit of a future problem, so one that we could probably delay solving somewhat for the time being.

Then came the fan demand for an Angel faction. Despite popular belief, we actually didn't originally have an Angel faction envisioned for the core set. Yes, Angels clearly existed in the vision of the Limbo world, but not as a faction in their own right (at least not yet). However, it became clear to both Vincent (a.k.a Limbo) and I that angels were something that people wanted more of. Both of us got to work in our respective roles, and we're now pleased to share something that we hope will resolve the problem I stated above, and get fans excited.

So, here's the big news:

That's right. The "Human" add-on now features the angel Sephiria and the centauride Elladarieth! These designs were not part of our original vision; it was you, our loyal fans, who inspired us to incorporate the powers above further into our game. 

Of course, incorporating more angels in the game might lead you to more questions, just as it led me to some. If the Humans are going to be fighting alongside Angels, does that mean there's no Angel faction? Or if there is an Angel faction, why are the Humans getting fewer minis than the Demons?

The answer to that comes in a bit of a change of how Limbo's design is going to be viewed as we finalise the game. Limbo: Eternal War is, true to its lore, now a game of the forces of light against the forces of the darkness. To clarify, however, factions will still be in the game, just in a new form.

When constructing a force now, you will form a Light or Dark force. This means you'll be able to mix factions from each side: for example, you'll be able to use Humans and Angels in the same Light force. In the same vein, you'll be able to use Demons and Undead (who will now also be their own faction) in the same force. However, faction, just like traits, will now be referenced by game effects. I'm going to be designing some extra stuff to ensure that even though factions can be mixed now, faction identity and rewards for playing characters of the same faction will be included. At the same time, you may eventually be able to form teams strewn together from all parts of the world, united to fight for the cause. To me, both these ideas are quite exciting, and I hope they are for you too!

I feel that this is the best way I as the designer can give backers what they want now (more angels), ensure that existing players always have more to look forward to in future content, and still make sure the game is the best it can possibly be.

I hope that all makes sense, and I'm excited to be evolving the game as the Kickstarter goes along. Hopefully, at the end of all of this, we'll all have made something that will bring smiles to people's faces.

      Wonderful strategy! Hope you will not make some categories broken compared to others, and I also hope to see more angels not as Add-ons!

      Wonderful job so far, you must be proud of you for the great minis you are delivering! Great design!

      Nice. Didn't care much for Azrat and Maara, but I like pretty minis, so putting more into the pot.

      This sounds similar to the system used in Warhammer 40K. Where you can mix factions that share a certain keyword, in this case Light or Dark, but may receive additional bonuses if your forces are from a single faction. In Warhammer, this would be called a "Battle-forged" army (or detachment). I like the WH system, so it's worth reading up on if you are modeling something similar and aren't yet familiar with it.

      Just another example of how you really listen to your backers, treating them with respect and doing your best to make the game as good as it can be for all of us. I think this direction your taking is definitely the right way to go and it's very encouraging that your thinking about the future of this game.
