About the Film
Hi, I'm Lila French, and if you've spoken to me at all during the past couple of years, you'll know that I'm working on a short film called "Birdbath". "Birdbath" was originally a play. It was written in New York in the 50s by Leonard Melfi.
"Birdbath" takes place over the course of one night. Two strangers, a waitress and a poet, meet, and through the events of the evening, we see what it takes for two broken people to connect in a large and often isolated world.
I performed the play three years ago, and when the run ended, I didn't feel quite done with it. So I decided to create this short film.

Artwork / Film Poster
I made this artwork back when doing the play. Some people have said that they liked it, so I'm using it as a reward. My friend Elizabeth hates it, so, well, to each his own. A postcard print will be used as the $10 reward, and a 11.5" x 17.5" sized limited edition signed and numbered print will be used as the $250 reward. This is NOT the film poster. The film poster is also a reward! It hasn't been created yet, but the final product will surely be amazing. (Although Elizabeth may hate that one also.)

Budget / What's Been Done / What's Left
The budget for the film is about $30,000. I have personally spent $9,500 on it so far, which I managed to save up by doing computer programming work (thank you, clients!) and not buying furniture.
We have filmed the exterior scenes and additional supporting footage in New York, and still remaining are the more involved interior scenes to be filmed in Los Angeles.
Funds raised will go toward Production costs in Los Angeles, including:
- Equipment Rental
- Location Fees
- Set Design
and Post-Production costs, including:
- Sound Mixing
- Color Correction
If you are so inclined, please help spread the word by Sharing or Emailing this page to others who might be interested.
This is a great opportunity to be a part of a very special project. And I hope you'll join in!
