Introducing Hololab, the first 3D learning adventure of its kind. Hololab leverages augmented reality technology to teach kids about science, technology, and engineering in ways that were never possible, until now. We imagine a world where children no longer learn from dusty textbooks, but from inspiring, immersive activities that instill a healthy love of science in the change-makers of tomorrow.
Our mission is to make a best-in-class education fun and accessible to any child in any home, and we believe that Hololab has the potential to do just that. Welcome to the future of learning.
Why Augmented Reality?
Augmented reality is an innovative technology that puts 3D graphics into the real world (think Pokémon Go). Studies have shown that 65% of kids are visual learners, and with augmented reality we can now teach things in ways that we’ve never been able to teach them before. Hololab can portray concepts that were once too big, too small, too expensive, or completely invisible with 3D graphics, right in your living room!
Fun and Educational: The Best of Both Worlds
Many digital games built for kids are amusing, but don’t encourage them to grow or learn about important concepts that define our world. And many learning activities, though well-intended, present information in outdated, conventional ways--making them dull or difficult to follow.
This unfortunate dynamic means that kids often spend their most impressionable years vegging out on screens for “fun,” while viewing education as a total chore. So we created Hololab to give families a better option: a cutting-edge, totally awesome activity that makes for productive game time and ignites a life-long love of science.
What We Plan to Create With This Funding:
The kits we plan to develop will explore important future applications of science, which will become increasingly relevant throughout the lifetimes of children today--from renewable energy, to artificial intelligence, to marine biology, to space travel. Hololab allows kids to visualize ideas and make the right mistakes, thus instilling a healthy process of scientific inquisition that conventional classrooms don’t typically create.
An Incredible, Never-Before-Seen Holiday Gift
By backing our campaign, you can give the little scientist in your life a never-before-seen gift for Christmas that is sure to rock their world. This offer is ONLY available through this Kickstarter campaign.
Finding the right gifts for kids can be challenging: clothes are tough to pick out, snacks disappear immediately, and games are often mindless or boring. Not only is Hololab a gift that will absolutely wow kids once they open the box, but it will entertain and inspire them for months while instilling a strong love of learning--which we think is pretty awesome.
LightUp was founded in 2014 by Josh Chan and Tarun Pondicherry, who met at the Stanford Graduate School of Education. Since then, our team has grown to seven: an awesome group of educators, developers, designers, and science enthusiasts.
We’re on a mission to change childhood education--constantly searching for ways to modernize and improve the way kids learn about STEM subjects (STEM - ‘Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics’). And for four years we’ve worked in the heart of Silicon Valley, creating technology that is on track to do just that.
After the success of our first product, we’re super excited to introduce the world to Hololab, which we believe has the power to transform science education forever. We appreciate your support in developing a better, more exciting way for the kids of the future to learn. If you have any questions or comments, feel free to let us know in the comment section.
Thank you from all of us at LightUp!
