              ALBUM SAMPLER TEASER

 An Introduction

When I started to make music in the mid-nineties as a bass player and keyboardist in a small local band from my high school, I never expected to be lucky to have such a blessed career in the music industry.

It all started with a Casio FZ-1 sampler, the cheapest 16bits sampler on the market, on which most of my first demos were made. It took me a while but I eventually got into the music industry by 1999 when I sent my first demos to record labels. At that time the French House scene was huge, and French producers were the hottest thing to have in a club. That’s when I signed with 20000ST, a label who at that time was at its peak, with a hit record called Demon ‘You’re My High’

They quickly launched my underground career with three EP’s.

One of them called "Black Chess" fortunately ended up being played to death by Thomas Bangalter & DJ Falcon during their "Together Tour 2002", and this suddenly launched my career as an artist.

A few years later, after meeting Pedro Winter at Dafttraxx (Daft Punk’s management office) I got in touch with Delphine Queme (Stephane Queme aka DJ Falcon’s sister). She was an excellent A&R & musician working for the hottest producer & record label in the world: Alan Braxe & Vulture.

Alan had just had a couple of massive hits, Stardust ‘Music Sounds Better with You’, and the huge underground hit, ‘Intro’. The first one happened to be one of the biggest selling dance records of all time (over a million copies sold) and the second one sold an incredible 150,000 copies (just on vinyl!)

From there I met Kris Menace (through a friend) a highly skilled German producer/party promoter that was running a label called Work It Baby.

We immediately became friends and he invited me to his studio in Germany to play around with synthesizers and samplers. That’s how ‘Discopolis’ was made, in a couple of hours, one cold night in December (which is quite funny when you think how the track became a summer Ibiza anthem a year later!)

Anyway, with ‘Discopolis’ just about finished, Kris and I decided to get in touch with Delphine and send her some music. After a week of anxious waiting, we finally received a phone call from her, saying that Alan (Braxe) wanted to sign the record and they believed it could become really big.

The rest is history.

The market had already crashed as digital downloads began to take over, but each week we kept selling so many copies on vinyl that we got told by the record label that "Discopolis" was about to become a massive anthem and the year 2005's biggest seller on vinyl.

Pete Tong hammered the track every week through the summer. We couldn’t believe it! It was just incredible, as we never expected that much success.

We’re still very grateful for that today, as this record rocket launched our careers straight away.

Within a month, Kris and I found ourselves in clubs everywhere in the world, playing the record, hearing the enthusiastic shouts of the crowd in the breakdown. We actually realised we had launched something bigger than us.

Today, after releasing Lifelike records on some of the best labels out there, and almost 40 remixes for the biggest electronic artists in the world, such as Daft Punk, Giorgio Moroder, Empire Of The Sun, Moby, Sia, and most recently the Chainsmokers, I still can't believe what happened to me.

I’m lucky to have music lovers from all over the world who follow my work and I’ve been able to release music on many great labels. So, now, thanks to Kickstarter, I’d like to invite you to become part of my next exciting music project.

This next adventure is the forthcoming release of my brand new album, something that I know many of you have been waiting for.

The idea behind the album was ‘collaboration’. I wanted to expand my musical horizons by inviting some of the most talented, contemporary artists out there, who are also good friends, to collaborate on new music and help create this Lifelike album. I’m talking about brilliant artists like A-Trak, Oliver, Chromeo, Electric Youth, Yota, and Audio District.

As many of you will know, I have been working on this album idea for some time now, and after working in the past with both smaller independent labels and big major labels, I decided that I would do something different and speak directly to the people who love and support the music.

Sometimes when you work with a smaller label, they are overworked and don’t have the influence or financial muscle to really push a release in the right way. Or, when you work with a bigger label, you can lose control of the creative process, with your release disappearing into a marketing machine never to be seen again.

I wanted to make an album that would directly reach the people who love my music, involving them in the process of bringing this project to life. I wanted to keep control of the sound, the image and the promotion so I could be sure it was the best it could be.

A friend suggested that I look at Kickstarter and immediately I thought ‘I have found the solution’. Here I can invite fans from all over the world to get involved in the process and continue with the theme of ‘collaboration’. Here we can build a community that can support the creative process, from putting the finishing touches to the music, to creating the first video, to promoting the album to the wider world.

Here I can create the album exactly as it is supposed to be and together we can make it a successful release.

The album will be called ‘Electronic Dreams’

You can turn it up and listen to the music, knowing that you helped bring these electronic dreams to life.

I hope you’ll join me on this exciting, musical adventure and we will talk soon!

Risks and challenges

Goals: raising enough funds to pay for the CD production, the Vinyl factory pressing, the artwork and the promotion of the album (and single releases from the album).

Costs of international promotion and a good quality video are very high:
- estimated costs for 2 videos and international promotion: 15,000 Euros
- estimated cost to press vinyl records and CDs: 5,000 Euros.

A funding of €25,000 Euros should cover all the expenses, including vinyl pressing, CD pressing, merchandising, DJ promo, PR, album launch party etc...
