CLiP™ SYSTEM: CARRY LIGHT & PROTECT
The CLiP™ System is our new line of tough, versatile tools that share a common form. They’re designed to clip easily onto your keychain, or tuck neatly in your pocket or bag. For the past two years, we’ve been dreaming up a series of tools that could be modular, interchangeable and expandable yet still small enough to carry in your pocket. Today, we’re launching the first two CLiP™ System tools—the BitVault™ and BitLight™.
So what are the BitVault™ and BitLight™? In short, they’re small containers to carry small stuff. Both tools can store hex bits and transform into small yet powerful screwdrivers. Clip them to your keychain and with the belt clip you’ve got a key hook. The BitLight™ adds a rechargeable LED flashlight for light at your fingertips. And we’ve even got a few surprises in store for the future.
ABOUT LEVER GEAR
Started in 2015 by design engineer Mike Scully, Lever Gear exists to empower people to get stuff done by designing beautifully crafted tools that are easy to carry, extremely functional, and built to last. Thanks to backers and customers like you, we’ve been thriving in Greenville, South Carolina selling our first Kickstarter product—The Toolcard Pro. We’re excited to continue our expansion into the Everyday Carry market with the CLiP™ System. We're committed to creating quality products for our customers, and it's not gone unnoticed by industry leaders:
INSIDE THE CLiP™ SYSTEM
The Story Behind The CLiP™ System
A few years ago, Lever Gear founder, Mike Scully, injured his back. It was not good. Around that time he also had his teeth straightened, which was good, except he now got spinach stuck in his teeth at every meal. (And he doesn’t eat much spinach.) Those two problems meant he was carrying around small pills and toothpicks all day. Not a big deal except the toothpicks ended up covered in pocket lint and the pills sometimes went through the wash.
As fate would have it, he had been working on an idea for an EDC pocket screwdriver that stored bits in a slide out drawer. It dawned on him that he could store any small items in his pocket driver. Or was it that he could add a hex bit socket to his pillbox? Either way, anytime he can combine tools to carry less, he’s all for it.
That’s when the real work began. Now that we had a product concept, we had even more questions. How could we add even more functionality? How could we make it easy to carry? What other tools could we create using the same form and even the same parts? What accessories can we create to enhance the design?
We spent nearly two years in development because we were designing a system of tools. In fact, the BitVault and BitLight are just the beginning of the story. With your help, we can write the rest.
Tough and Pretty
To say that our customers care about good design would be an understatement. We know you want your EDC tools to not only be well-built and functional but also made with the highest level of craftsmanship and style. We agree. If you’re going to carry something everyday, make it something you love to use and look at.
The CLiP System shell has a rugged, unibody, metal-alloy construction with an integrated spring clip. The die-cast metal cap fits securely into the shell and locks in place to form a solid tool when closed. Both parts will have a choice of beautiful, durable finishes in shades of silver/gray and black.
What's In a Name? The CLiP™ System
CLiP stands for Carry, Light and Protect. Actually, we made up that acronym after the fact. (We still haven’t decided if it needs a comma.) Some say the shape reminds them of a pistol clip when you load the hex bits. The real reason is that the case has a lot of clips. An integrated carabiner style clip to easily attach to and detach from your keychain. A detachable belt/pocket clip to keep your tools accessible or hold your keys. And some spring clips to lock the cap in place. In any case, it adds up to a flexible system that can be carried however you prefer.
Carry It Where and How You Like
With an integrated carabiner-like clip, the BitVault™ and BitLight™ easily clip on and off your key chain, gear, pocket, or hat.
The BitVault is designed to maximize carrying space and minimize size. There’s even space in the cap to tuck in a couple hex bits or longer items. When you’re on the job and want a handy screwdriver that’s compact in size, the BitVault stores up to six bits or four bits and a bit extender (coming soon). Unlike traditional cylindrical pillboxes, the wider, longer, slimmer BitVault stores a wider range of objects and fits better with your keys or in your pocket.
The BitLight has a slightly smaller storage space, but adds a bright, rechargeable LED flashlight. It still holds up to four hex bits or other small items. The flashlight fully charges in about two hours from any USB source. (USB-A to micro USB cord not included to reduce waste, but you probably have a dozen floating around your house.)
How many Lumens is it?
We thought you might ask. The short answer is around 10. (We’re getting it officially tested in a few weeks.) While not as bright as some LED flashlights, we combined two of the brightest 5mm bulb LEDs on the market with different beam angles and hues to create a smooth, even light that’s bright enough to handle most tasks. Illuminating your path at night? No problem. Lighting up your utility room during an outage. Yep. Spotting a bear at 100 meters? Probably not.
There are three brightness levels—High for most uses. Medium to increase battery life. Low for an unobtrusive task light at night.
Talk Nerdy to Me: What Fits and Specs
How Will You Use Your CLiP™ System?
We designed the container, but you make it the tool you need. Think of the BitVault as a blank canvas… no, that’s not it. An empty vessel. A badass empty vessel that’s easy to carry and can turn screws and illuminate the darkness.
Maybe you’re like Mike and need a better way to carry the small stuff.
Maybe you’re like our operations guy Scott and need a compact way to keep your keys and tools organized.
Maybe you’re like our night owl Jen and in need of a reliable flashlight for those nights you stay late at the office.
Or maybe you’re like our resident adventure seeker Matt and you need to carry specific bits to make quick repairs on your road bike.
Whether you have one of our problems or a problem of your own, we’ve designed the solution in the CLiP™ System.
Want to make your CLiP™ System even more customized? With our in-house laser etcher we're able to etch any custom message or logo into your gear. The best part about laser-etched graphics? They're crisp and won't fade over time.
What good is a driver feature without bits? Excellent question. That's why we created a few pre-selected BitKits that are likely to suit your needs. Choose from our Standard Kit (PH 1, PH 2, SL 1/8, SL 3/16, H 3mm, H 4mm), our Cyclist Kit (H 3mm, H 4mm, H 5mm, H 6mm, PH 2, T25H), or our Allen Key Kit (H 2mm, H 3mm, H 4mm, H 5mm, PH 1, SL 1/8).
HOW TO BACK THIS PROJECT
It’s really simple. We promise.
1. Choose a Reward Level
Choose one reward level to back this project. (See chart below) You get all the items listed in that reward.
2. If You Want Something More, Check Out the Add-On Menu
If you want to add something additional to your reward, check out the Add-On Menu below. Tally up the prices of the Add-Ons you want and add that amount to your pledge. For example, if you want 3 BitVaults, it would be $38 for the BitVault reward plus $72 for two add-on BitVaults for a total of $110. Remember that number.
Don't worry about specifying your add-ons at this time. Think of it as loading up a gift card now that you will use to specify your rewards after the campaign. You can adjust your pledge at any time and you can finalize your rewards after the campaign ends.
3. Click the Pledge Button
Once you’ve decided how much you want to pledge to the Lever Gear CLiP System, click Pledge for your chosen reward at the top of this page. You will be taken to a pledge page where you can then adjust the amount of your pledge to reflect your reward plus add-ons.
4. Sit Back and Relax
Any information like shipping address, color preference, personalization, and add-on specifics will be collected via survey after the campaign ends.

Risks and challenges
It's true and (unfortunately) unavoidable. Every project and product comes with risks. But, this isn't our first rodeo. It's our second, so you're in experienced hands.
We've learned from our past mistakes and taken proactive steps to make sure this manufacturing process runs in a smooth and timely manner. To mitigate some of the unknowns in the manufacturing process, we've already identified and begun working with a manufacturer on the tooling process. We've also built a bit of buffer into our timeline to accommodate for unforeseen tooling changes that may need to happen. With our manufacturer already in place, we anticipate moving forward more quickly once the campaign is completed.
On our last campaign, our team was a lot smaller. We've since expanded and have people on board who are solely dedicated to communication, production, fulfillment, and shipping. Our team will work hard for you and with you to ensure that we deliver your products on time. We're also taking care of all the fulfillment personally, so your order is guaranteed to get the personal attention to detail it deserves.
Should any issues or exciting developments arise, we will communicate these with you transparently and immediately. We know good communication is the foundation for any trusting relationship, and our Kickstarter campaign will be no different.
You have made all of this possible. To say we're indebted to you, our backers, is an understatement. Lever Gear exists because of risk takers like you and we couldn't be more thankful. We want to make it abundantly clear—each of you are valuable and important and will be treated with the utmost care and attention throughout this adventure.
Thank you for making this project a possibility. We look forward to making it a reality.
