The Man Who Saved Christmas is a musical comedy loosely based on the true story of ‘Erector Set’ inventor A.C. Gilbert. In 1917, as the United States was embroiled in World War I, Washington D.C. lawmakers actually proposed a ban on toy sales for the holiday season. (!) Gilbert battled the bureaucrats, and emerged victorious. He became a hero to children everywhere, and was forever thereafter known as "The Man Who Saved Christmas."
Composer-Lyricist Ron Lytle’s “New Old-Fashioned Musical” version of the tale has been lifting audiences to their feet on two continents for nearly a decade. Yet—despite rave reviews from critics, and countless requests from fans—this toe-tapping score has never been recorded. Until now!
Now, after years of “dreaming a dream,” 34 singers, along with a 14-piece orchestra (yes--LIVE musicians!) have gathered together to bring, The Man Who Saved Christmas to glorious life in an all-new Studio Cast Album.
And what a cast! Veterans of Broadway Productions, Broadway Road Companies, National and International Tours, the New York City Opera Company, and even the world of reality TV Show singing competitions have come together to record the 19-song score in sparkling High-Fidelity, Gluten-Free, Stereophonic Sound!
And it'll be released just in time for the holidays!
...At least, that’s what we hope…But into every stocking, a little coal must fall…
This is an expensive project. While financing for this project has been in place for well over a year, the budget (nearly $20,000--which includes Singers, Musicians, Studio Time, Engineering, Mixing, Mastering, Pressing of the CDs and most significantly Orchestrations) recently exploded unexpectedly. Studio overtime (extra sessions with musicians and singers) has suddenly added to the cost, and has left us with a shortfall.
So we are turning to you: The good people of KickStarter, and pleading for your help to finish this project by launching "The Twelve Days of KickStarter!"
THE 12 DAYS OF KICKSTARTER CAMPAIGN
The vocal and instrumental tracks have been recorded and edited. they sound great! But the final mixing and mastering must be finished before we can get the CD pressed, and shipped (the album will also be available via digital download on iTunes, etc.) We must get this final round of funding in place before we can proceed, so we are asking (pleading) for your help.
In producing this album, our goal is not only to create an entertaining listening experience for Musical Theatre fans everywhere, but also to help The Man Who Saved Christmas (the show) get wider exposure, which will lead to even more staged productions. We want to see TMWSC become a holiday standard at Regional and Community theatres across the country—and the world!
With your help, we WILL reach this goal! And since you're doing something nice for us, we thought that we'd like to do something nice for you...
In exchange for your kind support of our campaign--and to express our gratitude for your generosity and faith--we are offering what we think are some truly terrific rewards. We hope that you'll think they’re terrific, too! We've got Ornaments, Mugs, Tee Shirts and Hoodies, the CD (of course!), and more! Plus, every single one of our supporters will be publicly acknowledged either on our official website (www.TheManWhoSavedChristmas.com) or in the CD liner notes!
Truly, any amount that you can give to help support this cause will be greatly appreciated, and will bring us that much closer to getting this CD out by November of this year.
And, of course, we are begging you to help spread the word! PLEASE share this campaign via Facebook, Twitter, etc. to help us get people talking about The Man Who Saved Christmas. By simply sharing TMWSC's KickStarter campaign with your friends and social networks, you will be helping to spread awareness of this tuneful and heart-warming show! And word of mouth is more effective than all the press releases we could print.
THANK YOU for your support, and for being the KickStarter who saved The Man Who Saved Christmas!
THE HAPPY ENDING!
Risks and challenges
The greatest challenge that we face, is that musical theatre cast albums don't sell the way they used to. It's getting harder and harder to find an audience for "our" kind of music, so this is definitely a risky proposition. And, of course, with KickStarter, if we don't reach our financial goal, we don't get a penny! Scary. And exciting!
But this score is good and it deserves to be heard, so we're going forward!
So please check back every day during our "Twelve Days of KickStarter" campaign and see how we're doing. Drop us a line and tell us, "It's going to be okay! You're going to make it!"
Because with your help...We will.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
