Build groves to expand your realm, manage your pool of spirits, and optimize your resource production to become the ruler of Idyllon!
Idyllon was the crown jewel of Faerie Queen Nivarra’s kingdom. Once upon a time. Since her passing, this once great land has dissolved into formless void. While all of the Fae kingdom has mourned this tremendous loss, you – the Guardians of the Four Winds – have vowed to restore Idyllon to its former glory.
Groves is a strategy game that combines worker placement with bag building. There are multiple worker types that a guardian can summon to reap the benefits of the land.
Rounds start with players drawing three spirits (workers) from their summoning bag and placing them one at a time.
After drawing their Spirits, players take turns placing those Spirits in available locations. At the start of the game, Spirits can be played on a player's own groves or onto the central Tree of Idyll.
Once a player constructs a portal, that player can also place their Spirits onto another player's groves.
Playing on Groves will earn a player resources and/or dominion points. Any spirit earns the general ability (lower left). When a paired spirit is played on a matching grove, the player earns the general ability as well as the bonus ability (bottom right).
Playing at the Tree of Idyll allows players to purchase new Groves (crystal costs vary and are paid to the player currently holding the crown token), collect summoning bonuses, and construct portals.
After all players have placed their three spirits, any spirits in the Tree of Idyll are discarded, while the spirits played on groves are placed in the summoning bag of the owner of the realm they are played in (regardless of which player played them there).
The game continues until the Grove deck runs out. Players count Dominion from their groves, Dominion earned from Grove abilities, Dominion earned from completed summoning bonus cards, and any Dominion earned from global bonuses that they collected. The player with the most Dominion wins!
To win, players must make the most of their realm by adding new Groves to gain Dominion Points and new abilities. They must also optimize their draws by adding new, helpful Spirits while banishing unwanted Spirits to the Tree of Idyll or to their opponents' realms.
