Popcorn Press, publishers of the Halloween horror anthologies Vampyr Verse, The Hungry Dead, Halloween Haiku, Cthulhu Haiku, and Cthulhu Haiku II, among other things, are celebrating Halloween for the sixth year in a row, with a new anthology of horror poetry and flash fiction—Halloween Haiku II!
How It Started
In 2009, Popcorn Press president Lester Smith was also president of the Wisconsin Fellowship of Poets. With no time to throw a regular Halloween party, he decided to celebrate the holiday with an open call for poetry and flash fiction submissions, to publish an ebook in time for Halloween. A print version followed immediately after.
The process was so much fun, Popcorn Press has done it every year since! In 2012 we added a Kickstarter project to raise funds to pay the writers, and Cthulhu Haiku was born. Last year we ran another to fund a sequel, Cthulhu Haiku II.
This year we're returning to our roots with Halloween Haiku II and other hauntings.
This is your chance to get a great deal on the new book, while at the same time supporting the writers.
For a buck you can get the ebook version (which includes PDF, Kindle, and Nook files).
For just a few bucks more, you can have a print version mailed to your door (and receive the ebook too). And if you'd like any of the older titles, you can include them as add-ons. Just $1 per extra ebook title, and just $13 for each print book title (which includes shipping).
We've set our goal at just $31 to show our own dedication to making this book!
Call for Submissions
One of the things we love about Halloween is that people are willing to "dress up." So even if you've never thought of yourself as a poet or flash fiction author, why not give it a chance?
Send your submissions via the "Contact Me" link in the sidebar of this page. Accepted submissions will earn:
- $1 per half page they fill (we give each haiku or other short poem half a page—longer works get more space);
- 1 free copy of the print book; and
- special "Author" status at PopcornPress.com.
Submission grants Popcorn Press the right to publish the work in the book. All other rights are retained by the author.
And yes, we will consider works previously published elsewhere. (No simultaneous submissions, please.)
Deadline for submissions is October 13. You do not have to be a backer to submit your writing.
Add $1 to your pledge for an ebook version of any title from previous years.
Add $13 to your pledge for a print version of any title from previous years.
When backer questionnaires are sent at the end of this Kickstarter, we'll ask which specific titles you want. (And you're free to buy multiple copies of any title, of course.)

Risks and challenges
We've done a Halloween project five times before, twice as a Kickstarter, and the new cover is already finished. Our only concern, as always, is receiving enough submissions to make a book. That's where you come in: send us your best work and help spread the word!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
