LEROY is a misfit that has found a sweet spot, tapping into our inner dork. The story has something serious to say about family and feeling alienated as our audience engages with our aloof lead character and his dealings with his unconventional and imposing family. This is what the primary audience for this particular genre is used to and what they will respond to. The audience for Leroy is those who liked movies such as Napoleon Dynamite, Eagle vs Shark and Nacho Libre. All those movies were meticulously photographed, and unique to their own world. LEROY is a story that demands to be told in the same way: specialized photography, unconventional, local and distinctive.
LEROY will be played by Nathan Bryon, a talented actor and writer known for Cool Unicorn Bruv (2013), Some Girls (2012) and Mustard (2014). Nathan is now appearing in the latest series of Benidorm for ITV. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm5354748/
In this highly competitive industry, we recognise the need for on-the-job experience and want to inspire young people to take an interest in the creative industries. We will be working in collaboration with local youth organisations in North London to give young people the chance to gain on-set experience in one of the following positions:
x1 camera trainee - helping the camera and lighting department with set ups, equipment, focus pulling and clapper loading.
x2 production runners - working alongside the Producer and Assistant Director to coordinate the schedule, cast and crew, ensuring the shoot runs smoothly.
x10 extras - to feature in the party scene that Leroy attends.
Our target goal of £2000 will go towards camera, lighting and sound equipment, location fees, filming permission fees, music rights, transport, and catering.
Our talented cast and crew believe in our story and are working for expenses and out of the kindness of their hearts. Should we be lucky enough to exceed our target, we will be able to allocate a daily fee to all named cast and crew who are so generously giving up their time to help us make this story come to life.
Risks and challenges
As this is a very low budget short film, we will be utilising the skills and experience of our heads of department to produce a high value film at a low cost.
The largest spend will be for camera and lighting equipment and consumables as well as location fees and music rights.
Our Costume and Production Designers will be working on a very limited budget and will therefore have to be creative in the way they source materials.
Similarly for all departments, we will be challenging our creativity and skills by making a little go a long way!
Our Producer works together with a Production Accountant to ensure that the budget is managed and implemented correctly for smooth running of all production elements through to post production and distribution.
POST PRODUCTION & DISTRIBUTION: After the film has been edited in-house by our super talented Editor Keelan Gumley. We will begin to market the film for festival submission.
The initial marketing will begin during the crowdfunding process and follow through to production using social media including Twitter and Facebook. Pictures, video clips, ‘behind the scenes’ stories, day-by-day on set events will be posted to initiate awareness of the film. We will then target film festivals such as the British Urban Film Festival, Loco Comedy Film Festival, Raindance, BFI Film Festival and Sundance in a bid to gain an international audience.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
