LENSCAPT - The Lens Cap You'll NEVER Lose. (Canceled)
With a spring-loaded hinge that swings out with a flick of a thumb, never miss another shot opportunity with LENSCAPT.
LENSCAPT - Take Charge When Shooting On The Move With The Lens Cap You'll Never Lose
Introducing LENSCAPT, a new twist to an age-old design. Mounted to your camera lens via its filter threads, LENSCAPT open up with a simple flick of the thumb, the moment you need to take a photo.
Whether you're shooting on the streets or venturing the great outdoors, LENSCAPT makes sure that you will never miss that golden shot, all while keeping your camera lens safer than ever.
As Seen On
Never miss the perfect shot opportunity again; LENSCAPT deploys quickly and keeps easily once the shot has been taken.
Unobtrusive Clamshell Design
LENSCAPT opens to an angle of 180 degrees, allowing it to stay out of the way of any accessories from microphones to tripods or when you're framing your shots.
LENSCAPT fits directly on a lens' filter thread, and can be coupled with a step-up/down ring on other lens sizes.
LENSCAPT is designed with a reinforced inner rim to provide additional protection from impact and dust, while keeping a slim profile.
Who is it for?
We primarily designed LENSCAPT for daily carry, travelling light and for anyone who appreciates the speed and convenience of not having to fumble with a stock lens cap, including but not exclusive to:
- Street Photographers
- Event Photographers
- Wedding Photographers
- Creatives who carry a camera around daily as a habit (Editors, Enthusiasts)
- Your lovely, forgetful uncle you know who loves to take pictures of the family all year round
Travel the world without ever worrying about losing or fumbling with an old, traditional lens cap.
Prowl the streets and capture everything in a fraction of a second, while keeping your lens protected from the elements.
With a flick of your thumb, get ready to document every important moment of your life.
Sizes & Compatibility with Step-Up Rings
Our two current designs are tailored for lenses with a 52mm and 58mm filter thread diameter.
To find out the thread diameter on your lens, look for the number beside the diameter symbol (ø). For example, ø52 indicates that the lens has a diameter of 52mm, which will be directly compatible with the 52mm LENSCAPT.
If you do not have the exact size, LENSCAPT will work well with step-up rings. We've tested LENSCAPT with step-up rings up to 6mm difference and the quality of the captured images were not affect.
A lot of our Youtube reviewers used a step-up ring, some up to a 9mm difference and it works well!
If you need any help, send us a picture and the model number of your lens to email@example.com and we'll figure it out for you!
Vignetting, Compatibility with Lens Hoods & Filters
We've tested LENSCAPT on a series of M4/3, APSC and Full Frame cameras, and found no vignetting up to 28mm on a full frame equivalent focal length (up to 14mm on M4/3, 18mm on APSC), even with step-up rings.
Designed for daily carry and travelling light, LENSCAPT cannot be used with lens hoods, and is incompatible with CPL and Variable ND filters with an adjustable ring.
Compatibility with other fixed filters would not be an issue as long as there are threads on both ends of your filters, for example, a UV filter or fixed ND filter.
Voting for Upcoming Sizes
While our current funding goal is only for the 52mm and 58mm, our goal is to be able to provide a range of sizes applicable for most camera sizes used in the industry. Subsequent releases of model sizes will be based on popularity and community feedback.
The bulk of our funding will go towards re-tooling our machinery to be able to produce models in different sizes. Please let us know by voting on what you think the next sizes should be by clicking on the button above!
Dimensions and Materials
Materials: ABS Plastic, Aluminium (Threading & Locking Ring)
Weight: 36g (58mm only)
Wait... why does it look like there are two different logos for LENSCAPT on your images?
On our initial launch, we only had the 52mm LENSCAPT and it was strictly a prototype from our manufacturer. The prototype had some minor issues with finishing, threading and a different logo. Afterwards, we worked closely with the same manufacturer on the 58mm LENSCAPT and made sure we implemented the improvements.
As a result, some of our older images featuring the prototype has a different logo on it, as we only have the resources to produce limited pieces for the 58mm LENSCAPT... and that's why we're here on Kickstarter!
Much of our promotional content was filmed using a 52mm prototype. We have worked closely with our manufacturers to weed out minor issues, such as finishing and threading. The launch models we are offering (in both 52mm and 58mm) features not only improved functionality, but an updated logo as well.
LENSCAPT was born from the idea of two childhood friends, who decided that the humdrum of video games and day jobs just weren't fulfilling enough. Being staunch believers of making life easier wherever possible, we cracked our heads together to think of products that not only our lazy asses would like but something other people would appreciate as well.
Initially conceived after a frustrating day of work on the scene of a photo-shoot and equally aggravating rounds of matches on CS:GO, LENSCAPT came together from equal parts drunken banter, workplace necessity and being a personal labour-of-love.
With all that in mind, we set out to create a product that felt like a natural extension of the camera's aesthetic. We believe that LENSCAPT to not only be a solution but one that marries function and form to create a product our users can use to bring their passion further.
Customs & Duties
Due to variation in costs associated, import duty and taxes will be charged separately from our reward tiers, where applicable.
Risks and challenges
The many months of studying, planning and designing that lead up to the launch of our first Kickstarter project have not been easy. It has been a learning journey for us both, and we could not be more excited to see it through.
Sourcing the right vendors for manufacturing and fulfillment proved quite a challenge but we were quite lucky to be able to fall back on contacts made in our industry whom had a wealth of combined experience supporting new start-ups.
Like with any new venture, unforeseen circumstances that may hamper our progress are an inconvenient reality. However, trust is a key factor to the success of this project. Thus, we firmly believe that transparency with our partners and investors are a necessity, not a formality. We have also set out a risk mitigation plan to map out how we aim to address any conceivable issues to a reasonable amount. This is to minimise any disruption once the project has been green-lighted.
That said, we've been really lucky in meeting awesome people willing to help us out along the way on everything from media production, accounting to international shipping. (Thank you guys, y'all know who you are!)Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
