About this project
A Fresh Look for Your GoPro®* Footage
GoPro® cameras are amazing. The fixed lens, however, can be limiting. The Circular 180+ lens, packed with 185 degrees of AWESOME, will make you want to pull that GoPro® out and see your adventures like you've never seen before.
Want an ultra wide angle perspective that captures more than your eyes can see?
Want footage to assemble into immersive videos using fewer cameras?
Want to see the world in creative, fascinating new ways?
Introducing the Lensbaby Circular 180+ lens for use with GoPro® Hero cameras
The Circular 180+ lens creates fully circle fisheye videos and images with huge depth of field letting you capture the soul of your adventures with a fully immersive field of view. Attaching to the current waterproof housing on GoPro® Hero cameras, the Circular 180+ captures a 185 degree window on the world, wider than the human eye can see with unprecedented depth of field - subjects nearly touching the front of the lens are sharp, along with everything else in the image.
Why Circular 180+?
Lensbaby's Circular 180+ helps you document your extreme adventures in extreme ways. Shoot with a GoPro® and capture a truly unique perspective.
With its 185 degree field of view, intense depth, tack sharp edge-to-edge focus plus its small, rugged design, this lens will go anywhere you want to go.

How It Works
The Lensbaby Circular 180+ fits over the current waterproof housing on GoPro’s Hero® cameras.
Simply unscrew the knob to loosen the mount and push the lens onto the GoPro® housing. Push firmly so it seats evenly. Screw the mount down tightly, while continuing to push firmly.
- Fits on the current waterproof housing for GoPro® Hero cameras
- 185 degree field of view and a fully circular image in 16:9 wide recording mode (underwater full circular field of view: 120 degrees)
- Increases the GoPro® Hero's depth of field making nearly everything in focus
- Lens housing is waterproof to withstand extended immersion up to 3 meters (IP68 standard)
- Included water resistant mount is built to withstand heavy splashes of water with little or no leakage between the lens housing and the GoPro® Hero's housing**
- Add-on Waterproof Mount is waterproof to withstand extended immersion up to 3 meters and replaces the glass on the front of the standard GoPro® housing (T5 torx driver included with purchase)
Video above illustrates how to attach the add-on Waterproof mount.
Seasoned GoPro® shooters, including Cyrus Sutton, Andrew Kornylak, Nate Wyeth and Andy Mann armed with a prototype of the lens, are already capturing their adventures in completely unique ways with the Circular 180+ lens mounted to their GoPro® cameras. From skateparks to trampolines to cliff jumping to sharks, check out some select footage clips below.
We have a passionate group of Lensbaby still and video shooters. Many of you who shoot with GoPro® are unfamiliar with Lensbaby - Kickstarter helps us get the word out about this lens to YOU and your co-adventurers.
The images from the initial Circular 180+ prototypes were so exciting that we had to get this into users’ hands as soon as possible. Traditional funding would mean putting this lens on hold due to our development resources being tied up by products we’d already committed to. Counting on the Kickstarter community to fund this project allowed us to take the risk and make this lens a reality in 2016.
We've taken the leap by kicking off tooling. Now we're counting on your support through Kickstarter in order to get it into your hands within months. And we need your support to help back and get the word out. You're going to love it.
The team behind the Circular 180+ lens
We're a creative effects camera lens manufacturer based in Portland, Oregon. Our team has been helping photographers find their visual voice through our one-of-a-kind lenses for more than 12 years.
*GOPRO, HERO, the GOPRO logo, and the GoPro Be a Hero logo are trademarks or registered trademarks of GoPro, Inc.
**GoPro® and lens housing will not be adversely affected by leakage which occurs due to improper mounting or by submerging for extended periods up to the IP68 standard.
Huge thanks to the Scott Cahall, Mark Bridges, and the rest of the design team at Moondog Optics who took an idea that Craig brought up in casual conversation and ran with it, knocking out the optical and mechanical design, and delivering beautiful, working prototypes a few short months later.
Risks and challenges
We've been producing and selling camera lenses for over 12 years and are well versed in the challenges and risks inherent in manufacturing lenses. All new product development can have risks associated with sourcing parts, tooling and design.
-parts don't work (while we've extensively prototyped these designs and have confidence that our trusted suppliers will deliver parts that meet our specs and tolerances, stuff happens on occasion that surprises us)
-parts don't come in on time (while we've allowed extra time to account for delays, unforeseen delays are always a possibility)
We have already kicked off tooling, giving us the opportunity to solve most potential problems without affecting our tight schedule.
If issues with the product arise we will make those problems go away before we deliver your lens. Once it is yours we will stand by your Circular 180+ with a one year warranty against leakage (see specs for lens and mount waterproof standards) and against breakage under similar abuse that your GoPro waterproof housing is designed to withstand.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
Yes. Lensbaby, Inc offers a one year warranty against leakage (see specs for lens and mount waterproof standards) and against breakage under similar abuse that your GoPro waterproof housing is designed to withstand.
Yes. Lensbaby, Inc typically offers a full refund within 30 days of your purchase date. Because products on Kickstarter don't ship out for up to 2 months after your card is charged, if you don't love your Circular 180+ we will offer a 30-day refund of your purchase price from the date you receive your lens.
Circular 180+ can be used with the built in housings on HERO, HERO+, and HERO+ LCD Cameras.
Circular 180+ can be used with the current GoPro Standard Housing for HERO4 Black, HERO4 Silver, HERO3+ Black, HERO3+ Silver, HERO3 Black, HERO3 Silver, HERO3 White
The Circular 180+ is comprised of three anti-reflective, anti-scratch coated glass elements in a glass filled (for rigidity and dimensional consistency) polymer housing. The glass filled polymer mount employs a flexible EPDM gasket to grip and seal around and against the clear window of the standard GoPro housing. A stainless steel screw threads into a brass metal insert to tighten the mount onto the window of the GoPro housing.
The housing is filled with nitrogen and/or argon to eliminate humidity which can lead to internal fogging of the lens due to rapid temperature changes.

1 front protective cap
1 rear protective cap
The lens housing itself is water proof. The included water resistant mount is built to withstand heavy splashes of water with little or no leakage between the lens housing and the GoPro® Hero's housing. If you're someone who will likely use this lens fully submerged under water, you might want to add $35 to your chosen pledge level and get the Waterproof Mount. The Waterproof Mount replaces the glass on the front of the standard GoPro® housing and is waterproof to withstand extended immersion up to 3 meters. There is a bit tof DIY involved in using this mount. You'll need to remove the lens from the front of your GoPro® housing first. We'll include a T5 torx driver with the Waterproof Mount so you have all the tools you need to swap it out.
Yes, each lens will ship with a front and rear cap.
With included water resistant mount, grip the lens firmly and press it down tightly and evenly over the waterproof housing on your GoPro®. Continuing to press down while turning the mounting screw, to ensure that the lens is secure.
"Your waterproof mount will come with instructions and a torx (star) driver to remove the four screws holding the window assembly to the GoPro Standard Housing.
1. remove the window assembly pressing firmly on the driver to ensure that full engagement with the torx head of the screw is maintained (keep the four screws)
2. check that the rectangular rubber gasket that was between your housing and window assembly, your housing and your Waterproof Mount are all clean and dry
3. line up the gasket with so that it sits flat in the groove in the Waterproof Mount
4. line up the Waterproof Mount and gasket with the opening in the Standard Housing and ensure that it sits flat with the opening (there is only one orientation where it will sit flat)
5. screw the four small screws into the Waterproof Mount without tightening any of the screws
6. gradually go from one screw to another tightening them until all four are snug but not overly tightened (the screws are threading into metal so will not strip but over-tightening a screw or screws may cause your plastic housing to crack)
7. with the included o-ring at the back of your Circular 180+, thread your Circular 180+ on the front of your Waterproof Mount until it stops turning (when you hit a hard stop the o-ring will be fully engaged and sealed between your Circular 180+ and your Waterproof Mount)
8. before putting your GoPro back into its housing, submerge your reassembled housing for a minimum of 30 minutes, dry off the outside of the housing completely before opening to check for water leakage"
Yes, Circular 180+ is designed to attach to the current standard housing and not directly to the GoPro® camera. Hero, Hero+ and Hero+ LCD do not need a external case as the housing is built in with these models.
