Nora and I have recorded a new short podcast, our first show in 2 years. Listen Here.
How It Began
In February 2005, a married couple from Cleveland, Ohio went into their attic office, recorded a conversation between themselves and posted it to the internet.
Within a week of doing that, they were interviewed by a reporter named Roger Mezger and placed on the front page of the Cleveland Plain Dealer. That article was syndicated across the country and within the span of a few months, the small show Jawbone Radio became an established part of the new podcast revolution. It led the way for "couplecasts", influencing others with its laid back chatter and easily accessible banter between the hosts.
But the show became more than just a "couplecast". It dedicated a section to showcasing new talent, including an up and coming internet rockstar by the name of Jonathan Coulton. It featured interviews with celebrity guests like John Hodgman, Mike Nelson, Kevin Murphy, Bill Corbett and others. It followed along the lives of these two young entrepreneurs, their large family, and eavesdropped as they struggled to find the proper balance in their lives.
And then, without notice. It stopped.
That's not the way we wanted Jawbone Radio, our little show to end.
Flash forward two years.
Much has changed in our lives. We've added a added a new member to our family, not to mention our other kids growing up and starting to move out to start their own lives. Both our work roles have changed dramatically and doing the show got tougher and tougher to do.
But we never did forget about the show. And to us, or to me at least, it never really ended.
So here's what we'd like to do...
Nora and I would like to create a 10 episode season of Jawbone Radio. 10 new shows! We figure it will take at least 10 episodes to catch everyone up on what we've been up to since we took the break. But it also gives us a goal to reach for. By creating a small season, we have an end point in mind. That makes things a whole lot easier to mentally digest. And hopefully it will make for a more enjoyable. more listenable show.
What we need...
We're asking for a modest goal to do some equipment upgrades. In return, Nora and I look forward to giving you new, fun recorded content hopefully featuring new stories and rants. And we also have some fun rewards like backer only shows, original art by me and for the first time, original art by my wife and co-host Nora. (SPOILER ALERT: She doesn't draw.)
If you've never heard our show before, do a search and listen to our old shows. (For the record, the BBC called us "the podcast that Jerry Seinfeld would have created had he settled down in Cleveland, Ohio with a bunch of children.") We're looking forward to doing a new bunch of shows and with your help, we can do that.
Thanks for looking at our project and we hope you choose to back us!
Risks and challenges
We have nearly 300 episodes of the show under our belt, so we have the chops to get this done if we get funded. I also have run several other Kickstarters and know what it takes to fulfill them. So pretty much, if this funds, you are guaranteed satisfaction! Moreso if you were a fan of the show.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
