Design Philosophy
Input Club’s keyboard engineering team designed Kira from the ground up to achieve sleek aesthetics, peerless build quality, and near-infinite customization options for its RGB-backlit keys. Kira is more than a mechanical keyboard. It’s a work of functional art; a beautiful, open source object backed by an entire community of enthusiasts. Kira is meant for people who accept only the best on their desk.

Efficient and Durable
Traditional full size keyboards are less space efficient than Kira, which packs all the keys you want into a condensed layout. Its custom keycaps use long-lasting, wear resistant plastic and a printing method that can’t be worn off. They also have a wonderful texture that won’t easily shine or show finger oils. This durable plastic, known as PBT, was proven in keyboards like the IBM Model M. Model M keycaps from the 1980s are still sturdy enough for continuous use today, even after decades of wear.

Engineered to Last

Programmability
Kira is fully open source. Its design files will go live on Github after we meet our commitments to backers. Input Club’s programming tools enable complete customization; all layouts and key combinations can be configured at the hardware level. Efficient layouts like Dvorak and Colemak are also within your grasp. Our easy to use online configurator doesn’t require programming knowledge or complex scripting. Its point and click interface is meant for everyone.

Our Team
Input Club is rooted in the keyboard community. We love to share switch measurements, photographs, and designs with our supporters. Our worldwide engineering team works to turn dreams, like the WhiteFox mechanical keyboard, into reality. We also collaborate with forum-based designers to bring new keycap sets and keyboards to life.

Risks and challenges
We have designed and coordinated many group buys for keyboards and related products. We are paired with a storefront called Kono Store that has a full logistics and warehousing setup to make the production process as smooth and organized as possible.
In addition, this will be the first production run for Kira and will require new plastics tooling at our factory. This tooling will be very expensive, and we have not completed this specific sort of tooling before. The factory we selected for this project has been producing high end mechanical keyboards for many years and is up to the task.
Input Club supports other keyboard projects including the WhiteFox, K-Type, the Infinity ErgoDox and the Infinity Keyboard. We have just recently shipped out all the WhiteFox orders from our warehouse.
