The Story

In the continent of  Ephulon, between the majestic spires of the Cyaneous mountain range and the wide Adurnian sea sits the nation of Steragos, a sun-drenched country blessed with bountiful farmland and a hearty, enduring populace.

Tragically, the continent has been wracked by war, and treacherous minds have eyed the vulnerable republic with ruthless, ravenous intentions.

But Steragos is not without hope.  For in this land live the Regal Trio - Zariah Everhope, Ayome Akabe, and Ballista Dawnfire - three noble princesses who wage a tireless battle for  freedom and prosperity against the forces of tyranny and fear.

The Project

The Legends of Steragos is a fairy-tale / adventure I've written, aimed at young readers between the age of 8 and 13.  My intent with Kickstarter is to raise enough funds to commission artwork for the book, as well as pay for self-publishing costs.  My target date for publishing is February of 2013, the last month that I'll have my students before they spread their wings and move on to elementary school.

( ... and the guy behind it)

Allow me to introduce myself.

Hi, I'm Kevin.  How are you?

I'm an aspiring writer and artist from Columbus, Ohio.  I've long been a fan of science-fiction, action, and comedy.  I've written a number of my own screenplays which I hope will one day be illuminated on a silver or LCD screen.  Some examples of what I've done can be seen here: http://kev1000.deviantart.com.

I also want to aid others in expressing themselves creatively, and got the opportunity to do just that when I published a family-friendly newspaper, The Atomic Tomorrow.

Currently, I teach English in a hagwon (English school) in South Korea.  Being a fan of comics, cartoons, and superheroes, I loved to share my interests with my students who were eager to talk about Spider-Man, the Avengers, and Batman.  But I was constantly frustrated when it came to finding anything that featured strong female heroes, super-powered or otherwise, to draw my girls into the conversation. Time and again, the girls were more inclined towards talking about their favorite princesses.

Then one day, it hit me:  I could write my own story about super-heroic princesses.  These ladies wouldn't just sit around in some tower waiting to be rescued by a handsome prince from an evil witch - They'd clobber the witch, rescue the prince, and then blow up the tower.  But violence wouldn't be the only means of dealing with their enemies;  these would be three smart, talented young women whose love of adventure and zest for life were matched only by their devotion to the freedom and safety of their subjects.

LoS isn't meant to appeal strictly to girls, but to young readers of all stripes who love action and adventure.  Z, Ayomi, and Ballista are three confident, empowered young women who take an active role in the world around them.  It is my hope that I can share the spirit of these young women with all of my students.  When it comes to action, adventure, fantasy, or science-fiction, everybody should get to play.

Risks and challenges

The risks in funding this project are negligible. The story has already been written, and the above image was drawn by an artist interested in providing the illustrations. However, every project can suffer its setbacks. The only issues the LoS project could face would be delays in shipping, due either to mailing issues or publishing issues. I can assure you that I'd do everything I could to make any rewards gift get to the donor in a timely manner.
