Legendary Planet will take your characters across the multiverse, traveling alien gateways created by ancient, god-like beings to exotic worlds and back again in an incredible campaign like none other. Sword-swingers and spell-slingers stand alongside scoundrels and seekers for cosmic enlightenment as they unravel conspiracies and cryptic alliances bent on universal domination... or annihilation!
This epic saga begins with an optional prelude adventure, for those who would rather begin their campaign in a more traditionally prosaic fantasy setting, a pastoral world to which only the first fingers of alien influence have yet been stretched.
The Assimilation Strain is a 40-page prequel adventure written by Tom Phillips and Neil Spicer for 1st to 2nd level player characters.
A strange sickness afflicts the frontier settlement of Holver's Ferry, threatening to overwhelm its citizens with an alien madness. Already the town has nearly torn itself apart, and the local sheriff is missing. When the PCs brave the surrounding wilderness as the village's latest newcomers, the beleaguered townsfolk desperately turn to them for assistance. But can these erstwhile heroes trace the diseased carrier to its source and solve the mystery before they, too, succumb to The Assimilation Strain?
To Worlds Unknown is the first chapter in the adventure path written by Jim Groves, a 64-page adventure for 2nd to 5th level player characters.
Fire. And a choking haze of smoke blurring the luminous glow of strange lights on the walls and floor. Shouts. And an ever-present ringing in your ears, piercing your brain with the sharp trauma of an urgent alarm. You stumble from a bed you don't recognize, and into the path of strangers you don't know--some disturbingly alien, yet all fleeing an unknown catastrophe. Where are you? How did you get here? What is happening? There are no easy answers to these questions. But your opportunity to discover them starts now. And they're destined to take you To Worlds Unknown.
Your base pledge of $20 gets you The Assimilation Strain and To Worlds Unknown as PDFs, plus all bonus content attached to those adventures. From there, you have two choices:
- Add New Planets: Each time we unlock a new adventure, increase your pledge by $15 to add that new adventure to your pledge. This lets you start low and grow the universe expands!
- Become a Legendary Planeteer or Planetary Hero: You also can pledge once for the entire series, all in PDF, or in PDF plus a titanic hardcover volume containing all of this great content!
We have a ton of exciting bonus goals to add to the project. We ultimately would like to be able to offer this book with all the chapters in hardback but we must first fund each additional chapter. Below are the overall details for each chapter.
The Scavenged Codex is the second chapter in the adventure path written by Mike Shel for 5th to 8th level player characters. This adventure takes place on a post-apocalyptic desert planet. FUNDED
Dead Vault Descent is the third chapter in the adventure path written by Matt Goodall for 8th to 11th level player characters. This adventure takes place on the blasted surface and the endless catacombs of a tidally-locked world. FUNDED
Confederates of the Shattered Zone is the fourth chapter in the adventure path written by Richard Pett for 11th to 14th level player characters. This adventure takes place on a shattered world, amid the abandoned mining colonies of the asteroid belt. FUNDED
The Depths of Desperation is the fifth chapter in the adventure path written by Steven T. Helt for 14th to 17th level player characters. This adventure takes place on a water world with little to no land mass. FUNDED
Mind Tyrants of the Merciless Moons is the sixth chapter in the adventure path written by Tim Hitchcock for 17th to 19th level player characters. This adventure takes place among the moons of a gas giant. FUNDED
To Kill A Star is the seventh chapter in the adventure path written by Jason Nelson for 19th to 20th level player characters. This adventure takes place on a constructed Dyson-sphere surrounding a waning star. - See Update #33
Each chapter in the AP consists of a 64-page adventure and supporting material. PDF ART AND MAP FOLIO! All PDF backers will receive a bonus PDF with each adventure featuring each art piece on its own page for easy reference and use for showing to players (either on screen or printed out) without giving away anything from the adventure. Speaking of the adventure, each PDF folio will also include the fully keyed GM maps and unkeyed player maps for each adventure, each on its own page for ease of printing. These map images are being created in cooperation with Bevan Anderson from 3D Virtual Tabletop to ensure they are optimized for importing into VTT programs!
Erik Mona will write the introduction to Legendary Planet. Erik is, of course, best known today as the Publisher at Paizo, Inc., but before working his way up through every level of the professional ranks he started out as a true superfan not just of RPGs but also of fantasy and sci-fi in general. He relaunched the classic Amazing Stories as part of the Paizo lineup and has been a great champion of dialing up the epic sweep of adventure to the edge of the map and to worlds beyond. We are creating a supplemental Legendary Planet Player's Guide written by Neil Spicer, Alex Augunas, and Will McCardell, including four new playable races and information on character classes, equipment, religion, and more in the Legendary Planet setting. This guide will be FREE for all Kickstarter PDF backers!

What if the Adventure Path doesn't fund all the way? Will you still complete the AP? Why should I pledge at the beginning of the campaign for the "full" AP if I don't know it will be completed?
We are confident in the enthusiasm for this project and our fans to fund the full project and beyond, but this is always a risk.
Yes, we will complete the AP. This is a great story waiting to be told. If all 7 issues do not fund completely through the Kickstarter, that just means it will take longer than expected. We will be able to complete all the elements funded through the Kickstarter on schedule, and any remaining portions will be completed as we are able.
Pledging for the full AP at the start of the campaign is important because in the world of Kickstarter, nothing succeeds like success. It shows your enthusiasm for the project but it also opens up more and more content for the project. People who are interested but inclined to sit on the sidelines until they see a sweet deal will jump on board sooner if the project is growing fast. We want this thing to blast off like a rocket, and you jumping on board early is just the booster stage we need!

Risks and challenges
This is Legendary Games' third Kickstarter project. Both the Gothic Campaign Compendium hardback compilation and the massive three-volume MYTHIC MANIA project have been completed on time and with excellence. We have delivered complex projects coordinating the efforts of multiple companies, and are well aware of the amount of work and planning that is needed to pull them off successfully. We have a team of veteran designers and support staff who have worked across multiple systems and formats and shown their skills time and again. All projects bring their own unique challenges, but we have established a track record of success, excellence, and timeliness that demonstrates a very low risk of problems with delivering a fantastic product on time to our backers.
The prelude adventure "The Assimilation Strain" and the first full adventure, "To Worlds Unknown," are already well along in the production cycle and it is our hope to have both ready to release immediately after the kickstarter is complete. The next two adventures, "The Scavenged Codex" and "The Depths of Desperation," are also already being written and should be ready for release within the following months, with an anticipated release schedule of 1-2 months between adventures. Writers for the following adventures are already on board and outlining for those adventures has begun. Art and layout resources are also allocated and ready to go.
As for the challenges, we are aiming to finance all 7 adventure path chapters and the prelude adventure, initially as PDFs, with the goal to create a massive hardback compilation. To do this we will need to raise the amount needed for each chapter to pay the writers, editors, map makers, illustrators, layout, additional cover and chapter artwork, and the printer. This project requires a much larger art and map budget than our previous Kickstarters to deliver the kind of outstanding quality you expect from Legendary Games and a product that will stand proudly alongside your official adventure paths and stories.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
