UPDATE: INDIE EVENT FUND
Our independent food and drink scene is thriving, and we want you to help us celebrate all that Leeds has to offer by backing Leeds Indie Food (#LIF15).
Leeds already has a food festival, full of chain restaurants and sponsored by a supermarket, but we think the city deserves something that tastes a bit better... a bit more independent.
We're going to curate a fortnight of brilliant events all over Leeds, in and around the restaurants, bars, cafes and venues you enjoy week in week out. The festival is scheduled for May 2015.
Leeds Indie Food will feature :
- Tasting Menus
- Food Slams
- Brewery Takeovers
- Street Food
- Food Trails
- Film Screenings
- And much much more...
All of the ticket money from these events will go directly to the independent businesses and venues. We are not collecting a percentage or charging any fees to be a part of the festival. We want Leeds Indie Food to be as open and transparent as possible. The team will help organise, promote and develop events with independent businesses but those businesses will maintain complete financial control.
We'll also be launching a festival wristband which will give you access to exclusive products, discounts, priority tickets, wristband-only events, special menus and more.
Why we need your help:
The team are giving their time and skills to deliver the festival, but we can't ask the independent businesses helping us to work for free. Your backing will pay for everything we need to shout about the festival and make it a success.
- Design work for print, posters, advertising and website. (~20%)
- Videography and photography. (~15%)
- Advertising (~20%)
- Printing (~15%)
- Launch and closing events (~20%)
- Operating costs (~10%)
We've already got the support of some fantastic independent businesses like these guys:
We have a fantastic print partner in the form of Leeds' own Awesome Merchandise, who will help us fulfil both the printing and merchandise for the festival itself and your exclusive backers' rewards.
The guys over at The City Talking are helping us spread the word as a media partner and supporter.
We want to keep everything we need for the festival independent and Leeds-based. We were inspired by Duke Studio's innovative #LeedsIndieBikes project and we're running the festival under the banner of @LeedsIndie, an umbrella group helping connect and inspire independent businesses all over the city.

Risks and challenges
If we don't reach our goal we'll still try our hardest to deliver the festival through other sources of sponsorship or funding, but we want to create something truly independent. We want Leeds Indie Food to be the best representation of independent food and drink culture, to work with independent businesses through the whole process and to keep you involved and informed along the way.
We believe the best way to do that is through crowd funding a festival, a festival that really belongs to independents and to you.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
