The resurrection of an 80 year old watch brand
Exactly eighty years after the original company was founded, Lebois & Co is resurrected. Continuing its mission to create aesthetic Luxury Swiss timepieces. Will you support us in achieving our mission? In return we offer some great rewards including our first Re-launch Edition which is limited to 100 pieces only!
The history of Lebois & Co
It is 11 days before Christmas 1934 when Lebois & Co is founded by French watch manufacturer Raymond Dodane. This French entrepreneur and watch manufacturer belongs to the third generation of the famous Dodane family, who are best known for their watches using the family name on the dial.
Lebois & Co was sold to an Italian import company in 1947. The watches were still being produced and sold (mainly to Italy). The watches were made in the Dodane factory as well as a number of Swiss watch manufacturers.
In 1972 Lebois & Co ceased production and distribution of watches and the brand disappeared from the watch industry landscape for a long time. Despite the disappearance of Lebois & Co the brand is still known today and popular with watch collectors all over the world. This beautiful 1945 Lebois & Co Chronograph sold for over $ 6,000 at Christie’s Important Watches auction in 2012. More history and older models can be found here.
Here and now
Almost a year ago my girlfriend Eveline and I came across a photo of a beautiful vintage watch, a Lebois & Co Chronograph. We printed the picture of this watch and stuck it to our fridge. Being struck by the beauty of this timepiece we started our research of this unknown brand. This eventually lead to the re-registration of the brand name and the re-launch of a forgotten watch brand: Lebois & Co.
Fitting for these times the new logo for Lebois & Co is crowdsourced. Because a lot of funding is needed to start a watch brand almost from scratch we decided to part-fund the resurrection of Lebois & Co using crowdfunding.
Our first model: the Avantgarde Date
The Avantgarde Date is the first model in our new collection. Inspired by former Lebois & Co collections and using some of the aesthetics of that era, the Avantgarde Date is a modern 40mm timepiece in stainless steel and a Swiss mechanical automatic movement made by ETA. Furthermore the Avantgarde will bear the coveted "Swiss Made" label, one of luxury's most prestigious marks.
To celebrate rebirth of Lebois & Co we created 3 Re-launch variations of the Avantgarde Date, each limited to 100 pieces. The first of the three variations features a white dial and blue alligator strap (ref 112.412) and will be available as a reward in this project! Please note: after this project the retail price for this watch will be € 1.695,-.
Design & Prototype
Each Avantgarde Date will be presented on a genuine Louisiana Alligator strap.
Our Avantgarde Date will be fitted with the Swiss ETA 2824-2 movement. A very reliable movement that is often referred to as the workhorse of the mechanical watch industry. The 2824-2 is an automatic winding, twenty-five (25) jewel movement with a 38 hour power reserve.
