I still remember the phone call. I was in my apartment that I jokingly named “Studio 24”. My brand-new band “High on Stress” was just about to release our first album “Moonlight Girls.” Leading up to this call, Mark Devaraj (drums) was trying to convince me that we needed to send the record out for review. I was convinced we were going to get savaged. Mark’s call came late that night from Cheapo Records in Uptown. He said “I just picked up the new “Pulse of the Twin Cities” and Tom Hallett (RIP) wrote the greatest review of the record. I made him read all 628 words of it to me over the phone.
Hallett went on to mention “killer hooks, note-perfect historic homages, and fresh, thoughtful lyrics” and punctuated it with a simple “killer shit”. I could not believe what I just heard. It’s not hyperbole for me to say that write up and that phone call changed my life. To quote Steve Martin, “I found my special purpose.” Tom Hallett knocked that insecurity right out of me which changed the way I approached music and changed the way I approached my life in general. The band went on to put out three more records and finally called it quits in 2014.
That bring us to today. We’ve decided to get back together after long discussions and some bad inside jokes. We’ve decided that our first order of business will be releasing “Moonlight Girls” on vinyl for the first time. The album will need to be remastered for vinyl and manufactured which comes at a high cost. That’s where we need you to come in. This will not come to fruition without your support.
There will be perks for you if you're willing to commit a little bit more to funding this project – shirts, stocking caps, past CDs, stickers, pins and even a few other special items including a yet to be recorded brand new High on Stress album. That’s right, we are hitting the studio to work on album #5. We’re truly excited about this entire project. Whatever you can give would really help us a lot as everything and anything that you can do will bring this project to life. We can’t do this without you. Thanks for the love and support in the past and for sticking by us for all those years. We need you now more than ever.
Risks and challenges
The record was completed and released in 2005 but it will need to be remastered for vinyl and manufactured. It won’t be released if this Kickstarter campaign is not successful. Because we will not start manufacturing the record until the goal is reached, it may take some time to receive some of your rewards. There may be a delay in shipping of the yet to be recorded new album. We will keep you updated on progress and make every effort to get the rewards out to you in a timely matter.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
