A prototype is a preliminary model of something. Projects that offer physical products need to show backers documentation of a working prototype. This gallery features photos, videos, and other visual documentation that will give backers a sense of what’s been accomplished so far and what’s left to do. Though the development process can vary for each project, these are the stages we typically see:
Proof of Concept
Explorations that test ideas and functionality.
Demonstrates the functionality of the final product, but looks different.
Looks like the final product, but is not functional.
Appearance and function match the final product, but is made with different manufacturing methods.
Appearance, function, and manufacturing methods match the final product.
For the first 200 backers only, you will receive one Leash Buddy system and a FREE Find My Pet GPS tracking collar. You can't beat a deal like this!
Our Leash Buddy system has been engineered to withstand 400lbs of pull and still keep the rider on the bike and the dog from getting dragged. What looks like a simple design is actually quite elegant in it’s mission to keep you and your dog safe.
Leash Buddy has been thoroughly tested to withstand any jerk, stop, or pull from dogs up to 150 lbs.
WILL IT WORK FOR MY DOG?
LeashBuddy is designed to work with these dogs and more!
LeashBuddy's bracket was specifically designed for optimal clearance so you can ride normally. You will never have to worry about the pole hitting your leg.
Leash Buddy easily mounts to either side of your bike. You may prefer your dog on one side or the other. You may also want to keep your dog on the non traffic side and with Leash Buddy’s quick release system it’s as easy as pulling out and clipping in. 30 seconds is all it takes to switch sides.
To ensure the absolute highest quality on every product we ship we’ve borrowed strict aerospace engineering specs and designed every leash buddy to be within ± 0.005 inches. It’s not perfect but it’s as close as you can get. :)
Our design and testing process was all about getting the right amount of stiffness in the spring, getting the correct pole width, and finally combining both.
Our first prototype was testing to get just the right amount of stiffness in the spring that would withstand any jerking or pulling from dogs up to 150 lbs. The second prototype was perfecting the pole design to get it optimal length and width. The third and final prototype combined the first two and created the tested, tried, and true Leash Buddy system you see today.
We'd like to introduce you to the masterminds (and self-proclaimed dog lovers) behind LeashBuddy.
Blake Olson is one of those people that just couldn’t find a way to exercise with his high energy dogs. Whether he was walking the family Springer Spaniel or watching friends pets, they always wanted (read: needed) more exercise! This came to a head when Blake was pet-sitting Gimli (ya know, from Lord Of The Rings). He’s a high energy Boxer and there wasn’t anything Blake could do to wear him out. After doing some research on webMD (who knew they had pet articles?!), he discovered what he had feared: Gimli was supposed to be getting 30 minutes - 2 hours of exercise - A DAY! Yikes! Que the pet-owner guilt. Anyways, to jump ahead a little bit, Blake created a product to solve this exercise problem for high energy dogs.
Enter Blake's friend and co-founder Chris Greiner. He owns a high-energy Frenchie named Bear. Chris had seen people trying to shortcut the time it took to exercise their dogs by riding a bike while holding a leash. Oh, and they did this while they tried to steer...and keep the dog from pulling...and generally trying not to die. After getting over the hilarity of how many well intentioned pet owners’ bike rides probably ended in unplanned meetings with the pavement - he had a second thought - They might be onto something! A leisurely bike ride is around 8 mph - the perfect speed for a high energy dog to trot alongside the bike - but not too fast either. Over a phone call, Chris told Blake about the idea he had to build a new product that would solve the pet exercise problem by using a bike. But this product HAD to be better than holding a leash and praying that no squirrels caught our pets’ attention. And thus LeashBuddy was born!
Unlike other products that have a rough prototype and that’s it; we’re different. We’ve already created our molds, tooling, and decided on a manufacturer. The Kickstarter revenue will be used on paying for our first production run. This allows us to get you your product lighting fast and eliminates all the unnecessary risks that cause considerable delays.
Risks and challenges
LeashBuddy is a completely new brand and product. Although we have rigorously tested this product, it has yet to be released in the hands of consumers. With that, we are open to our backers giving us feedback on where we can improve.
To ensure that we don't have a delay in our products’ journey to our headquarters and in turn our customers, we have taken precautionary measures to set aside more than enough time to get our products to us and in your hands when promised.
