Leannan Sidhe returns to make her second album, Mine to Love!
This album is a mix of dark fairy tales and passion, wrapped in a labyrinth, sprinkled with enchantment and served with a side of whimsy.
You can check out my previous album Fragile Dreams at http://music.leannansidhe.com
ANYONE who backs me at the $25 level and above (or ups their backing if they're already a backer) before the project ends will get an automatic tier upgrade (to a max of the $500 level)
Stretch Goal #1: $3500 - pays for part of the album mastering costs. As a special thank you for getting me there, I will record one of the short stories that goes with the album and all backers of any reward level will get a copy.
At $5500 Kevin Wiley will do an actual music video for me!!! He's even volunteered his time for this, which if you know him is a huge gift in its own right. He's very good at these, so the idea of having one of my very own has me crazy excited. Also, if I reach that stretch goal, most of my album expenses will covered, which would be FANTASTIC!
There are a number of very dark and twisted faerietale songs on the album, songs of curses and lessons to be learned, and a reminder that things aren't always as they seem. As I refined the song choices I found it to be too delightfully unsettling for a Christmas release so I've moved up the release date to Halloween. To balance out the darkness, there are also a few songs of love, passion and friendship. I've got a number of friends who see Halloween as the most romantic holiday of the year, so if you're one of them? You want this album.
Featuring Leannan Sidhe on vocals, Alexander James Adams on vocals, fiddle, and other instruments yet to be decided upon, Betsy Tinney, cello goddess extraordinaire and album art by Rob Carlos (background based off a photo by Starlisa Black Photography). I'm also hoping to have a new (but familiar) face or two join me as the sound of my music takes on a more intense flavor. Those of you who loved Fragile Dreams may find yourselves enchanted with what's coming up next!
As an incredibly special treat, I've obtained permission to cover two of my favorite songs: King of Elfland's Daughter (by Mark Ungar of Phoenyx) and Spirit in the Wasteland (by Charlie Murphy of Rumors of the Big Wave). Both of these songs have been out of print for a very long time and I am utterly delighted to share them both with you.
To get to my goal I need 34 more of you to preorder the download, or 23 to preorder the CD, or 14 to also want a copy of the lyrics and a card, or 7 to decide that having your name in the liner notes and a signed copy is pretty awesome. $10 is two days worth of food for me, so I know how hard sparing even that much can be for some of you. If you're one of those people and you still really want to help, please boost my signal as much as you possibly can!
This is what I want to be doing with my life. Making music, sharing it with the world… I’m willing to give up just about everything I have to make this dream come true. I’ve put in notice for my apartment, I’m selling off as much of my stuff as I can bear to part with, and sinking every cent I have into making this happen. Its not quite as crazy as it sounds… I’ll spend a lot of the time that I’m not recording off camping and hiking with my mom, and performing everywhere I possibly can. Because if I’m going to do this, really make my way as a musician, I need to be out there doing it. Not all the gigs are going to pay, not all of them will have large audiences, but that’s okay. Those small personal ones are where I get to really connect with you, and that’s one of the things I love.
The practical bits that make up my budget.
- Musician Payment ~$2000 or more. I work with professionals who do this for a living. They need to eat just as much as I do, so I make sure they get paid.
- Song rights payment ~$400 (If I have to save costs I may cut one of these from the album)
- Studio/Engineering time ~$2000. I'm actually getting a great deal on this, and if I'm really, really prepared when I go in to record I may be able to shave this down. Right now I'm approximating based off the amount of time the last one took to make.
- If I reach my goal and no more, I can pay for all of the above with the project funds and what I've got on hand. That lets me get the recording done in the window my musicians are holding open for me. I also need to cover the following, but I can run a second project later for that if I have to, when I know more exactly what I will still need.
- Mastering - $1300
- Disc Replication ~$600
- Cases ~$200
- Inserts (I'll order these in small lots if I have to) ~$125/300
- Album Art ~?
- Shipping rewards out ~$150+
