About
When you meet me, you meet Leah, Claire, Sydney, Leah Too, Protector, Gate Keeper and Predator. They all live inside one body - mine. I live with Multiple Personalities and Bipolar disorder. I am passionate about removing the stigma surrounding mental illness, and am writing a book about my life to show how someone with mental illness can be stable and productive. My story includes the trauma, horror, success, humor & victories I've lived through, along with tips for things I've done to take good care of myself. I want to use my experience to help others.
Most of the book is already written. I've kept journals throughout my life and many years of therapy. I put them online where they were well received, but they were not the complete story that I wanted to tell. And now with the time I've spent as a consultant on the Showtime series United States of Tara with Diablo Cody, I have so much more to add to the ending.
If I raise the funds I need, I can complete my book in approximately three months. People who have read the unedited journals have told me my story is compelling, engaging, and helpful.
You can view questions from readers of the journals on my website at this link - Ask Leahpeah and here is a link to my Mental Health posts.
Project Background - I've been working on this project since 1999. If you're counting, that is ten years of my life. The unedited journals were my first attempt at self-publishing. I sold about 5 copies per month for a few years and I was happy that people who found it compelling and helpful were able to get a copy. But, eventually, I took them down because they didn't represent who I am today and I wanted my book to be so much more.
I've been in contact with agents and publishers and always hear the same thing - 'Great book proposal. I love your story.' However, they want me to take out the self-help material or the memoir material. I believe strongly that both the personal experiences and helpful tips should be included. So, I intend to self-publish and distribute through Amazon and Barnes & Noble. The market for my story has great crossover appeal to many demographics and I don't want to specify which one it fits into best., whether you have a mental illness, have a friend or family member with a mental illness, work with mentally ill people, teach or are attending a psychology class, love an inspiring human story, interested in a taboo subject or are curious how the multiple brain works.
If you'd like to take a look at the formal book proposal, please email me.
Thanks for your time and I'd love your support. xo
