A tile based tactical skirmish game based on the Realms of Norse Mythology. Each realm is comprised of unique Norse characters and their wondrous abilities. The game allows you to pit these against each other in a bid to claim total victory. The victors will reshape the World in their own form.
Each Realm has a choice of Heroic or Epic play styles that focus on either raw power or tactical advantage. Heroic has simple abilities but is harder hitting. Epic adds advanced abilities and lore based content. Overall the game is balanced to mix Heroic and Epic styles together. Experienced players can involve themselves in the valorous abilities and tactics of Epic and still have a balanced fight against new players learning Heroic.
Each realm has nine individual card stock figures mounted on a base. Movement and combat in the varied terrain hexes is fuelled by an Action Pool. Combat uses-twelve sided dice that can be modified with Fate Cards. The winner is either the Realm with the last ruler standing or who has filled up their Blood Cauldron up with the sanguine fluid of their enemies!
The War of the Nine Realms is a tactical skirmish game for 2-4 players, aged 10 or above. Game time is 60 minutes and the complexity is 7 ( on a scale of 1-10). Varied board layouts, Heroic and Epic play styles, alternate victory goals, combine to produce a game playable time after time.

We have gathered the views and previews of some of the people who have seen and played our games as well as some press videos about us and our plans.
From the guys at Failroad Express, as they say...
"Ragnarok has begun and there are only enough seats on the rebirth bus for one clan! In this battle chess game, you must defeat your rivals king or fill the blood cauldron to appease the gods!"
"War of the 9 Realms from Wotan Games. A board/miniature hybrid game soaked in Viking mythology, what's not to love :)”
"We did enjoy our game of @Wot9R it was a fun, simple to learn tactical game that doesn’t take an age to play! Can’t wait to grab a copy!”
The Boardroom Podcast...
“..the other thing to mention that I thought was genius, is that there are two sides to the player boards, one is the Heroic side and one is the Epic side. So the Heroic side is very simple, they have sort of one kind of action skill thing that (each character) has got and a special ability and then they’ve got attack dice and stuff like that, then they’ve got the Epic side which a little bit more complicated with more skills and you can play with either side. You can even play as Epic Jotunn and I could play as the Heroic Aesir and we’re roughly balanced as basically the Heroic get a few more attack dice whereas the Epic get more skills, which I just think is a really nice touch, so if you want to play a game with a bit more sort of tactical thinking and stuff like that you just play with the Epic side, but if you don’t want to do that you just play the Heroic side and you just roll loads of dice"
The Wonky Spanner
" is probably going to quickly become a gateway game to those wanting to explore miniature gaming” "Brush up on your Norse Mythology for this one"

Norse mythology and its associated sagas are rich in the stories of gods, heroes and everyday folk. One of the central stories is Ragnarok. The world ends in a cataclysmic battle between the denizens of the Nine Realms. The time of the gods and elder races passes and world is remade by the victors. Ragnarok translates as the Twilight of the Gods. Players choose to play one of the four realms available in the basic game.
This is the home of the Norse Ice Jotnar or Ice Giants. This icy and endless plain is crossed only by the Vimur River which leads to its capital Utgardar. Around are the gigantic citadels of the Jotnar. Far in the distance can be seen one of the roots of Yddrasill beneath which lies Mimir, the Well of Wisdom. The Jotnar are fighting for a new world like their own, but free from annoying gods and mortals.
The Realm of the Dark Elves is subterranean, full of twisting tunnels and vast caverns. One area blends into another making an endless world that never sees the light of day. The population swarms in its nooks and crannies, the darkness hiding their secret machinations from others. The Dark Elves burst out to fight for a new world of comforting darkness, free from giants, gods and mortals.
This rugged land surrounded by an endless sea is the home of the Norsemen. Their small villages and farms dot the landscape intertwined by rivers, streams, forests and moorland. This is the realm of mortal men and is much like our world. The Norsemen are fighting for a new world free of Gods and the elder races.
This realm is the home of the Aesir. A beautiful land that contains the halls of the gods themselves. A high mountain dominates the landscape, atop stands Odin's hall. Here he sits, surveying the universe with his magic eye. Below lie the halls of the other gods and many other magical places. In the centre of the realm is a great hall whose roof is made of golden shields. Here the Valkyries bring the fallen to the Hall of the Slain that is Valhalla. The Aesir are fighting for a new world of balance and understand that the elder race time has passed.
Below is a table for estimated shipping costs, which will be charged separately from this Kickstarter. After the campaign, we will send you a survey from our pledge manager so you can provide your address, specific rewards and add-ons you want. You pay your shipping charges in the pledge manager.
For most regions, including Europe, VAT and any import taxes are included in the shipping cost. There are some countries in which we cannot include import taxes. These include Mexico, all of Central and South America, Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Turkey, UAE, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, and Taiwan. We are working hard to keep Post and Packaging costs as low as possible. The delivery dates will be affected by the success of the project. With the unlocking of the miniatures we will be looking at a longer production time, which is why it is being released as an add on.
"I was once described as "probably the best looking spoon in the cutlery draw, as long as there weren't any Silver spoons because they would definitely be better" Gaming for me, has always been about relaxing. Not hot bath relaxing, more like plugging into the Matrix relaxing. Escaping somewhere for a while with great people, to trade wood, hide from monsters, build space ships or fight gods, it's all about the elation, laughter and giddy frustration that's enjoyed between the bouts of the day to day life. My aim is to give people new places to plug in and play."

As a small independent we have very little funding to keep us moving from one project to another. We gather the people that are required to develop the game and engage artists.
This all requires funds and once we are at the stage of sending off for quotes for production we have to engage graphic artists to bring all the elements together in a format that people will want to purchase.
An additional benefit of launching War of the Nine Realms as a Kickstarter project is that it will provide us with valuable feedback from you, our backers, to help us direct the future development of our games. Our backers will be the first ones to receive the game, weeks before its released. Depending on the success of our project, will be the speed we can bring out other expansions and other titles, with our backers seeing and having access to this content first. There's still a long way to go, but with your help we'll be able to deliver a fantastic product.
Risks and challenges
Almost all of the design and illustration work is completed. We are just waiting on the design layout of the rules. We are hoping that our backers will help to check the content of the rules. We will have to wait for the additional language versions to be created before we can start manufacture.
We are partnered with Ludofact of Germany, they have plants in both EU and China and we are very confident that they can produce swiftly and are reliable and produce high quality games. They have worked with us on the manufacturing layout and have been a great help.
We're working with a Ship Naked who are fulfillment and shipping experts, We have depots in the US, CA, UK, DE, AU and CN to ensure that we can offer leading backer shipping rates as well as deliver the games as fast as we can in good condition.
We are aiming to get our games to you all before Christmas, but we will see with the seasonal shipping demand. Creating a game is always a challenge. However, we are an experienced publisher of board games, and have significant experience in producing games which are more complicated in manufacture and play. War of the Nine Realms is already a successful prototype board game and is being demonstrated and enjoyed internationally.
The main risk at this stage is that the project maybe delayed in respect to its scheduled date, if there is a need to ensure the level of quality we are looking for in our games, especially with stretch goals being hit.
Our main challenge is to make sure that the quality of the game matches the expectation of our customers, which is based on the standard set by ourselves during our previous game publishing days.' - Laurence O'Brien, Wotan GamesLearn about accountability on Kickstarter
