The War of the Nine Realms - Board Game (Canceled)
The Mighty Clash of the Norse Realms, meeting in a final epic fight for total supremacy of all the Nine Realms.
But what is the back story of the game? Yggdrasill, is the immense mythical tree that connects the nine worlds in Norse cosmology. It is starting to shift its alignments in preparation for the impending Ragnarok. These futures events will include the great battle of the realms. However Odin All Father, who gave is eye for wisdom, knows that this will mean whomever has victory now, will have all of the Nine Realms in their control. So Odin sends out messengers and works to bring allies back for the fight, even his son Baldur The Beautiful from Hel itself for the fight. However the other realms find out what Odin is doing and vow his destruction and desire only victory for their own realm.
A modular tile based skirmish game steeped in Norse Mythology, where the Realms pit their finest against each other in a bid to claim total victory. Each realm is comprised of unique characters from Norse lore with wondrous abilities, and a choice of Heroic or Epic play styles which allow you to choose between raw power, or tactical advantage, as you immerse yourself into a battle of fabled proportion.
The different sides of the Realm cards give you two unique sets of Characters to compete with. The Heroic version is more straight forward in the abilities but harder hitting, the Epic version adds lots of additional abilities and lore based content. Both are balanced to be able to compete Heroic Realm against Heroic Realm or Heroic versus Epic.
So experienced players can play Epic and still have a balanced fight against new players using the Heroic version of their Realm.
Combat is dice based with card modifiers. Actions are resource lead, meaning you can play aggressively, defensively or somewhere in the middle.
You win by either being the last Realm standing by killing the rulers of the other Realms or by filling up the Blood Cauldron with the sanguine fluid of your enemies! Combining elements of tile placing, dice rolling, card drawing, unit placement resource management, every game is unique with a rematch never far away. A versatile, medium to heavy weight game for 2 - 4 people, with lots of replayability.
Each player gets to choose one of the initial four realms that are first to arrive on the plains of Battle.
This is the home of the Norse Ice Jotnar or Ice Giants. This icy and endless plain is crossed only by the Vimur River which leads to its capital Utgardar. Around are the gigantic citadels of the Jotnar. Far in the distance can be seen one of the roots of Yddrasill beneath which lies Mimir, the Well of Wisdom. The Jotnar are fighting for a new world like their own, but free from annoying gods and mortals.
The Realm of the Dark Elves is subterranean, full of twisting tunnels and vast caverns. One area blends into another making an endless world that never sees the light of day. The population swarms in its nooks and crannies, the darkness hiding their secret machinations from others. The Dark Elves burst out to fight for a new world of comforting darkness, free from giants, gods and mortals.
This rugged land surrounded by an endless sea is the home of the Norsemen. Their small villages and farms dot the landscape intertwined by rivers, streams, forests and moorland. This is the realm of mortal men and is much like our world. The Norsemen are fighting for a new world free of Gods and the elder races.
This realm is the home of the Aesir. A beautiful land that contains the halls of the gods themselves. A high mountain dominates the landscape, atop stands Odin's hall. Here he sits, surveying the universe with his magic eye. Below lie the halls of the other gods and many other magical places. In the centre of the realm is a great hall whose roof is made of golden shields. Here the Valkyries bring the fallen to the Hall of the Slain that is Valhalla. The Aesir are fighting for a new world of balance and understand that the elder race time has past.
CONTENTS in the BOX
Lots of components make up the game with all the various characters represented with cardboard stand figures.
Lots of the markers are card at the moment but offer us the chance to have stretch goals to improve the contents of the the final finished game.
We have gathered the views and previews of some of the people who have seen and played our games as well as some press videos about us and our plans.
From the guys at Failroad Express, as they say..
Ragnarok has begun and there's only enough seats on the rebirth bus for one clan! In this battle chess game you must defeat your rivals king or fill the blood cauldron to appease the gods!
These initial goals allow us to improve the contents and the handling quality of the components. While we always want the best in every game the Kickstarter project allows us the opportunity to go that little bit further to bring better elements and a little luxury to the game.
We love that people will be pledging, however there are other ways you can support us. Spreading the word similar to how we did in our initial Thunderclap campaign is a key factor to our success in this crowdfunding project. Your help on the social networks will help us alot.
To demonstrate our gratitude for all the social hard work we are going to have levels of of the social ladder that will bring extra awards.
You can join us on our ongoing Thunderclap campaign that will have another strike towards the end of the Kickstarter campaign to announce the closing days of the Kickstarter Project.
So click on the links below and follow them to the relevant site and Like and Fan us.
With these targets being hit we look to start adding the following goodies to every copy of the game, Kickstarter and beyond.
We're looking to these extras and beyond
So we would look to increase the size of the reference card in the game and get a little more information onto it.
A Dice bag to keep everything tidy in storage.
This is our first major Kickstarter project, however we will be shipping our finished project to distribution in the United Kingdom and the United States of America.
This will allow us to keep costs into the UK, USA, Canada and Europe to a minimum which we have demonstrated in the transport cost indicated in our pledge levels.
We are aware that often it is in the postage that a project will win or lose and we are working very hard to make sure we are reasonable in the Package and Posting to keep this at an acceptable level.
The team that has worked on War of the Nine Realms has been larger than normal for us, but we wanted to have such a contrast in the Realms Artwork that was still combined perfectly.
I was once described as "probably the best looking spoon in the cutlery draw, as long as there wasn't any Silver spoons, because they would definitely be better" Gaming for me, has always been about relaxing. Not hot bath relaxing, more like plugging into the Matrix relaxing. Escaping somewhere for a while with great people, to trade wood, hide from monsters, build space ships or fight gods, it's all about the elation, laughter and giddy frustration that's enjoyed between the bouts of day to day life. My aim is to give people new places to plug in and play.

The origination and artwork are all prepared from engaging artists to produce our realms artwork, but we need to bring it to completion.
As a small independent we have very little funding to keep us moving from one project to another. We gather the people that are required to develop the game and engage artists.
This all requires funds and once we are at the stage of sending off for quotes for production we have to engage graphic artists to bring all the elements together in a format that people will want to purchase.
An additional benefit of launching War of the Nine Realms as a Kickstarter project is that it will provide us with valuable feedback from you, our backers, to help us direct the future development of our games. Our backers will be the first ones to receive the game, weeks before its released. Depending on the success of our project, will be the speed we can bring out other expansions and other titles, with our backers seeing and having access to this content first. There's still a long way to go, but with your help we'll be able to deliver a fantastic product. We aim to be ready for Essen time for backers and Christmas release for everyone else.
Risks and challenges
Creating a game is always a challenge. However, we are an experienced publisher of board games, and have significant experience in producing games which are more complicated in manufacture and play. War of the Nine Realms is already a successful prototype board game and is being demonstrated and enjoyed internationally.
The main risk at this stage is that the project maybe delayed in respect
to its scheduled date, if there is a need to ensure the level of quality we are looking for in our games.
Our main challenge is to make sure that the quality of the game matches the expectation of our customers, which is based on the standard set by ourselves during our previous game publishing days.' - Laurence O'Brien, Wotan GamesLearn about accountability on Kickstarter
