Frequently Asked Questions
We've heard a lot from the gamer Moms & Dads out there, expressing interest in using MajiMonsters as way to introduce their kids to fantasy role-playing, especially kids that love Pokemon. We think that's an awesome idea, and we're super excited to be making a product that gets the whole family together at the gaming table.
Truthfully, since MajiMonsters is what you make of it, it's tough to put an age range on the product. Understanding combat mechanics and system rules is one thing. In our experience, children as young as 10-12 can pick up on how the game works, and will then begin to develop strategies over multiple sessions.
But that's just our experience. Ultimately, MajiMonsters is about telling a story and having fun. If you're running a game for your children, make sure you use your best discretion on the subject matter of your game's plot and let some of the rules and dice rolls slide in favor of entertainment. There's no reason a younger player wouldn't enjoy that.Last updated:
That's AWESOME, and we'd love to hear your ideas! Seeing the community get inspired by MajiMonsters has been the most rewarding part of the process.
Most of the content we'll be including in the Core Rulebook will be what we've developed and play-tested, but we love getting community input. As mentioned above, backers at the MAJI or MASTER tier will be able to get their ideas directly into the rulebook due to the size of their contribution. That's why the reward tier is limited.
Upon the amount of requests we've seen for people eager to get content into the book, but unable to fund at such an amount, we've opened up the floor to formally take ideas from the community. We're calling it "Create Your Own MajiMonster" and you can read more details about it here:
Just so we're totally clear on this, this is NOT a contest, and in no way does it require a Kickstarter contribution to participate in. It's simply a way for the hordes of community members that have been emailing us about their own monster designs to have a voice. Of course, if you are a backer and you're interested in this, we encourage you to participate as well!Last updated:
Two reasons really.
The first, and most important, is that we want feedback from the community to make this the best game it can be. We plan on recruiting backers and others interested as play-testers when we are further along in development so we can collect your ideas, refine the game, and bring everything together. That takes time. Right now, we’re eyeballing late summer, early fall for that phase of play-testing if we can fund.
The second reason is that time will be necessary to get the resources together to make a finished, polished product. It builds in any extra time we may need for getting artwork, editing text, changing layouts, and approving proofs. We’d rather be honest and up front with the time that takes, and we don’t want to over-promise delivery.Last updated:
The game has been play-tested and developed over the course of almost two years now, but we are still changing things to make it the best it can be.
We plan on inviting others to help us test-play when the time is right, but right now priority is given to backers at the $10 tier or higher. After backing us, simply send us a message, leave a comment, or reply to an update with your request to be a play tester, and we'll add you to the list.Last updated:
Nope! We'll send you everything you'll need via email to print and use at your convenience at home with your gaming group.Last updated:
Of course not! A character sheet will be provided in the back of the Core Rulebook for you to photocopy. It will also be included in the digital copy that you can conveniently print.
The $100 reward level player's kit includes additional character sheets for your use, printed double sided.Last updated:
Good question. We've planned for at least 100 to start, but that can change with stretch goals and just how much money we raise. These will include all Monsters created by backers. Additionally, we'll be releasing additional Monsters via the online content.Last updated:
Can I get the digital adventure, Echoes of the Lost Empire, without purchasing a physical copy of the Core Rulebook?
Yes! We had a backer ask for this, and it’s not something we considered before.
We’ve created an add-on for the digital adventure at the cost $15. The process is the same – if you’ve pledged below the $50 tier you can simply increase your pledge by $15. When we fund, we’ll send out surveys on how the extra should be spent, and you’ll be delivered your digital copy upon fulfillment. (At the time of posting this we’re still editing the campaign page to recognize the Add-On, bear with us!)Last updated:
Sadly no, the illustration will only be for your own use. However, backers at the MAJI or MASTER tier will be able to work with Late Knight Games to fully flesh out a MajiMonster of their own design, complete with custom artwork and statistics, included in release of the rulebook. If you want to share your creation with the world, consider backing us at that level.Last updated:
