Awoken: Worlds Apart is a Fantasy Role Playing Game that throws 4 to 7 Players into a dangerous world as themselves. Players will need to find their way home, becoming epic heroes along their journey and uncovering a dark plot to destroy this new world. Awoken is designed by Ethan Cox and illustrated by Nur Iman and Nic Morales.
Ripped from Earth and dropped into this unforgiving world, Players must traverse the landscape and discover a way home. Each Player chooses 1 of 10 classes, learning unique abilities and gaining special powers through the classes' dedicated Factions. Players work together using their newfound powers to journey on epic quests, unearthing evil plots, defeating terrifying creatures, and bringing either peace or destruction to this world.
What sets Awoken apart from classic RPGs?
Awoken has a host of new and unique mechanics not seen in classic Role Playing Games. These mechanics make game play more fluid and allows players more freedom with character personalization.
- Righteousness Score:
Replaces classic Alignment with a fluid "karma" score that rewards and punishes players for their game-play. These rewards and punishments in no way force players towards a certain style on play.
Replacing Weight Management in a fun and artistic way.
- Item Cards:
Three card sizes are used to illustrate item size and are to be placed in players’ inventories.
Overhauled combat system means dealing and receiving damage alongside Awoken’s magic system allows players to breeze through low level combat, feel more powerful in fights, and still be challenged by equal and high level encounters.
- Guaranteed Damage Table:
This mechanic guarantees Players damage when they make great Attack Rolls! No longer do you have to be disappointed with 1 damage after a great attack.
- Magical Attacks:
Awoken has a video-game-styled magic system with a Magic Pool that lowers with each cast spell and regenerates each new turn. This allows for dynamic Magical combat and doesn't restrain players with a set number of daily spells.
- Skill Trees:
Weapon and Magic Skill Trees are used to track player progression with their chosen Weapons and Magics. Players do not have to stick to set class proficiency or a certain set of spells. These Skill Trees allow players to try their hand at ANY weapon or magic.
- Character Creation:
The very first character a Player creates isn’t a Dwarven Warrior or an Elven Rogue instead, players create themselves. Through the story arc players are ripped from Earth and teleported to this new world of Magic and Mystery.
- Character Leveling:
Leveling up is centered around time spent alive in this world. As each Class is connected to a faction, the more time spent, the higher up the rungs a Player progresses, the more abilities they unlock. When unlocking new abilities, Players will be sent on specific quests (often Solo Quests) to unlock this new ability.
Players will begin their journey by choosing 1 of 10 classes, filling in their character sheets with extra points and acquiring new abilities as they level up. Each Class has its own specialty role that Players do not have to adhere to. Complete freedom is Awoken's aim, allowing Players to fully customize their character however they wish; a Barbarian with magic? Absolutely. A Rogue with a Great Axe? If they use their points well then yes!
Out of combat game play centers around role-playing situations with your party members and the non-playable characters (NPCs) played by the Game Master or by interacting with the environment. While the majority of these moments will depend on pure role play, Players will often need to make Checks to see if their actions or words are successful for what they are attempting to accomplish.
Checks follow the classic mechanic of rolling a D20 (20 sided Die) and adding any extra modifiers your characters may have. If a Player rolls equal to or above the required check, then they will succeed their action.
Awoken introduces a new take on Advantage and Disadvantage. Players can acquire Slight and Strong Advantages or Disadvantages when making checks.
Slights will give Players a D6 (6 sided dice) to roll.
Strongs will give Players a D12 (12 sided dice) to roll.
Advantages add the dice roll to your D20 roll.
Disadvantages subtract the dice roll from your D20 roll.
Roll a Slight Disadvantage on your Stealth Check because your pet crow decided to craw? Roll a D20 and a D6, subtracting the D6's number.
Combat has been streamlined for Awoken, allowing both novice Players to easily grasp the concepts and more seasoned Players the ability to really delve into epic combos and manoeuvres. Awoken’s battle system offers Players 13 types of actions including; Normal, Heavy, and Finesse Attacks, Flaring spells, and Holding Actions for Reflexes.
Attack (Roll Damage dice – Ready: 1 Action)
Heavy Attack (Roll Damage dice twice – Flat Footed, Weapon Handicapped: 2 Actions)
Finesse Attack (Specific attack, only modifier is Finesse Skill. If miss, enemy gets to counter attack: 2 Actions)
Cast Spell (Use a spell: Spell cost Actions)
Flare Spell (Double spell range/length/1D6 harder for Will reflex checks: Spell cost +2 Actions)
Disengage (Move 1m from combat – Ready stance. If moving without Disengaging, enemy attacks: 1 Action)
Free Action (Talk, crouching, drinking: 0 Actions)
Guard Stance (Take no negative Stance AL modifiers ->. Can Counter Attack f first enemy’s attack that misses. 2 Actions)
Hold for Reflex (Hold Actions for IF/WHEN conditions, player can’t hold an f action that the player has already made that turn. Max 3 Actions)
Move (Move up to Player’s Speed. 1 Action)
Sprint (Move up to 2 times Player’s Speed. 2 Actions)
Single Action (Putting out flames…:1 Action)
Use Ability (Activate a Triggerable Ability. Listed Actions)
Each Action has a set number of Action Points with Players only have a set amount to work with per turn. Player Actions Counts increase as they level up offering Players a wider range of options and combinations.
Directional combat is important and can give Players the edge while in combat. Armour Levels can drop depending on where Players (or enemies) are attacking from and the stance of the target. This can offer Players a much more tactical approach to combat, instead of simply running up to an enemy to attack.
Tokens are used to visualize the direction a Player or enemy is facing, allow Players to easily see where they need to stand to flank.
Modifier cubes easily slot into each of the tokens to simulate conditions and injuries. When an enemy is set on fire, simply place a token in their slot so no one forgets they are slowly turning into ash. There are no set colours to injuries, it is up to the Players to decide during each fight which colour means what effect, offering freedom with a set number of cubes.
Player Inventories replace any need for weight management with useful gridded inventories. Players use different sized cards; Mini, Poker, Tarots to indicate different weights and sizes. Players will need to fit these items in their inventories without any overlap, if they wish to carry the item with them. Players can purchase Large Backpacks, Small Backpacks, and Belts from merchants in the world, so they may carry more items.
Each weapon and armour type will have a full set (5 Weapons & 4 Armour Pieces) in that material type. The better the material, the strong the armour, and the more dangerous the weapon. Additional damage dice are added to weapons as the material type progressively increases. Card edges are also used to indicate rarity and value.
Want to become the Hero of your dreams? That's what Awoken's Open Play System allows! There are no set Class to Weapon proficiency within Awoken, meaning any Class can learn any weapon type or magic.
Skill Trees are used for Player progressions with differing types of weapons. Each Skill Tree has unique abilities and actions Players unlock as they progress, as well as extra proficiency scores they can add when making attack rolls.
Magic within Awoken is extremely powerful and can be mastered by any Player irrespective of Class. If a Player - possibly a Ranger - wishes to learn magic they are able to use their Skill Tree points to do so.
Players have a Magic Pool which moves up and down as the Player casts spells and regenerates magic. Players do not need to prepare spells, nor do they have a set number of spells per day. As long as they have magic in their Magic Pool, spells can be cast.
Magic is directly connected to the Will attribute, meaning all Magic Checks for all classes are Will checks. Will is used to determine a Player’s Magic potential. Once Magic is unlocked for the Player their Magic Pool is filled with 5 points per Will score.

Journey within Awoken's first campaign Worlds Apart, or create your own stories with the vast world we have to offer.
Awoken's first campaign is called Worlds Apart. This campaign follows the story of people from Earth (the Players) being ripped from their normal lives and transported to mystic world far from home, one filled with magic and fantastical monsters.
The story will drive the Players to uncover ways to return home, but be warned, many require sacrifices you may find too high. Awoken's story is designed to make Players question if they are Good or Evil? Players will be faced with difficult choices that will dictate future encounters and major plot points. Worlds Apart isn't designed for just one style of play. Players' morals can ebb and flow as they must face each situation as they believe they truly would. Righteousness points are gained from your actions and will drastically change the world around you.
So ask yourself...when there's a Ghoul clawing as your feet and cold steel in your hand, who are you really?
Worlds Apart is a single campaign broken into four campaign booklets, each encompassing one of the seasons. Within each booklet contains roughly 43 hours of game play, making the entire campaign over 172 hours long. This campaign is intended to last roughly 1 year if Players were to play for 4 to 5 hours each week/second week. This is why the campaign has been split into four, with each season having it's own major story arc while continuously pushing towards the finale.
Awoken's world and storytelling has been influenced by authors such as Raymond E. Feist (Magician), Robert Jordan (Wheel of Time), and Brandon Sanderson (Stormlight Archives). Also through video games such as Witcher 3, and Dishonoured.

Understanding the delicate nature of production, and shipping is crucial to fulfilling orders. For this reason, the delivery date of December 2020 is only an estimate. We understand slight delays can come from unforeseen and uncontrollable incidents within shipping and manufacturing so we endeavor to ensure all controllable complications are dealt with.
As this is our first campaign we do not know how the campaign will grow and what will eventually be added to the box, changing weight and shipping costs.
The following costs are estimates only and will more than likely change by the final shipping date. We will make our best efforts to ease the burden of shipping by fulfilling rewards from shipping partners around the world.
A pledge manager (most likely Backerkit) will be used to acquire shipping details when the goods are ready to ship.
Shipping estimates (AUD):
United States... $15 to $35
European Union... $30 to $55
Canada... $15 to $35
Australia (+New Zealand)... $15 to $35

Risks and challenges
This is our first Kickstarter Campaign. While we have not run a campaign before, we have experienced the ups and downs as backers of other campaigns ourselves. We have a strong work ethic and wish to bring this game to life with your help.
We are heading into this campaign with our eyes and ears open, ready to hear your feedback and prepared to face any problems. If this campaign takes off, we have a vast vision for Awoken with expansions, additional content and new thematic games. The larger that we become, the more complex fulfillment will inevitably become.
Last hold Games wishes to make this a transparent campaign with ample communication so all of our backers are well informed with the development decisions being made.
