Experience a highly non-linear RPG from an independent development studio with a sprawling storyline commencing with a modest protagonist, lost in an unfamiliar world... As you struggle to find a way back home, you uncover an increasingly malevolent and time-twisted plot to devour the ancient creatures of Terra. You must confront this corrupted power to save Terra and ultimately, yourself.
We began developing Last Dream in April 2011 to be the central element of our decades-running annual Tournament among physics graduates. Hence, we started with the sole desire to craft an enduring game that we would personally enjoy.
As Last Dream progressed and over 50 creative individuals became involved, we realized that other people might enjoy our game as well. Now, after spending thousands of dollars of our own money and investing thousands of collective hours in game development and testing, we are ready to make the final push toward distribution.
Our development team is comprised of people who deeply cherish the RPGs of our childhoods.
Andrew Walker, PhD: Passionate head programmer, prolific documentarian, and manager of the game testing network.
Josh Mellon: Spearheads legal and financial matters, chief editor, and detail-oriented game tester.
Mark Cope: Graphic designer and industrious, deeply-experienced focus group of ONE.
Alex White: Professional website developer and serial entrepreneur.
Choose from 8 specialized character classes to form your 4-person party; each class contains a wide diversity of skills that you can unlock throughout your game, and you can build each character's attributes as you see fit. The result is a strikingly different experience every time you play Last Dream.
The selectable difficulty levels offer first time players an edge or an engaging challenge to the most hardcore gamers. You can also select your desired encounter rate and saving opportunities.
Last Dream also offers over an hour of intriguing cutscenes that shed light on the complex history of planet Terra. Alternatively, you are free to decline these cutscenes for a more streamlined experience.
Sophisticated puzzles are a fundamental aspect of Last Dream, ranging from very easy to highly challenging.
Your pledges will make a huge difference, enabling us to obtain enhanced music and images, as well as installation software, and pursue minor marketing efforts and continued hosting of our website and related expenses.

Risks and challenges
We have a dedicated team of capable professionals with decades of gaming experience, and every one of us is committed to bringing this multi-year project to fruition.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
Our team has cleared their schedules to implement the finishing touches to Last Dream within two weeks after this Kickstarter campaign concludes. The provided version of Last Dream will include all updates from pledges, to include your text, ending credit recognition, statues in your honor, headstones, etc. Shortly thereafter, we will make Last Dream available on our website: WhiteGiantRPG.com.
Last Dream is the first in a planned trilogy. Although Last Dream witnesses the rise and ultimate demise of the immortality-obsessed half-elf, little is known about how the tumultuous land of Terra evolved, nor why the powerful ancient Vanir collectively elected to renounce their very existence. Hence, additional funds will support enhanced graphic art and music for Last Dream II, already in development. We would also like to port our game to other consoles.
Currently, our game is PC exclusive; however, this is an important area we are actively investigating.
I really would love for your project to do well... Hope to help in whatever way I can as I truly believe your game deserves to be made.
We are grateful for your enthusiasm and interest! We are committed to bringing together the final resources and people necessary to complete Last Dream. As you mentioned in your letter (not displayed above), the "one key thing to a project's success is exposure." We absolutely agree. Please share our project with your friends. In turn, we promise to passionately work to complete the best version of Last Dream possible.
I understand that PCs are the only current Last Dream platform; however, might there still be some way to get your demo to execute on a Mac or Linux computer now?
It is possible to play the Last Dream demo on a Mac or Linux computer (in addition to PCs), but only under the following conditions:
If you have a Mac, then there are several options for you to try. Note that these only work for Macs with Intel processors.
1. Install the Apple Boot Camp software. Purchase Windows XP w/ Service Pak2, Vista, or Windows 7. Follow the instructions in the Boot Camp documentation regarding the installation of Boot Camp, creating a Driver CD, and installing Windows. Boot Camp enables you to boot the computer into OS X or Windows.
2. Parallels Desktop for Mac and Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7. Parallels is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
3. VM Fusion and Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7. VM Fusion is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
4. CrossOver which enables running many Windows applications without having to install Windows. The Windows applications can run concurrently with OS X.
5. VirtualBox is a new Open Source freeware virtual machine such as VM Fusion and Parallels that was developed by Solaris. It is not as fully developed for the Mac as Parallels and VM Fusion.
6. Q is a freeware emulator that is compatible with Intel Macs. It is much slower than the virtualization software, Parallels and VM Fusion.

If it's a Linux computer:
Visit the WineHQ web page to download free software to get started. On the main page, click on the "Downloads" link. Then click on the link for your specific version of Linux, for example "Ubuntu" or "RedHat."
Follow the on-screen setup, and install directions for WineHQ. Each install will vary slightly since Linux operating systems follow their own installation processes.
Double-click on the installer file. Follow the on-screen directions to install. If the installer file does not launch, open a "Terminal Windows" and type in the file directory; for example "cd ~/Desktop" followed by "Wine fileinstall.exe" where "fileinstall.exe" is replaced by the file name.
Run the .exe file either by going to "Applications," then "Wine" followed by the "Programs menu," where you should be able to click on the file. Or open a terminal window and at the files directory, type "Wine filename.exe" where "filename.exe" is the name of the file you want to launch.
Lastly, if you are using a Window computer and the demo will not run, then it's likely that the file was corrupted during the download or the download itself didn't finish.
We hope this information helps.
Our team is currently in production power-drive, working long into the night (every night) to complete and thoroughly game test the final areas and elements of Last Dream, the first in our planned trilogy. Progress is going very well and each of your pledges propels our motivation into ever greater stratospheric heights.
Hence, let me first state that we will move (RPG) mountains to complete Last Dream within two weeks of the conclusion of this Kickstarter campaign.
We have been thinking about Last Dream II since our development effort began two years ago. Already, we have composed pages and pages of storyline text, created original graphic art, outlined innovative dungeon concepts, developed draft maps, identified 130 fantastic instrumental pieces from independent artists (with slots for another 70, at least), and much more. In short, Last Dream II is well on its way.
Although Last Dream required a full two years to develop, we believe that our experience and long head start on Last Dream II will enable us to complete our second game in half the time of the first. Thus, we expect to finish Last Dream II by this time next year. Then, it will be on to Last Dream III!
Absolutely. Our entire team uses controllers to game test Last Dream. Any USB plug-and-play controller for PC should work (e.g. Logitech Precision Gamepad, SteelSeries 3GC USB Controller). Xbox controllers also work.
Plug in your controller prior to launching the game, and hit F1 for any desired remapping. Have fun!
The character descriptions become visible when you press "Shift" on your keyboard (or the equivalent on your controller) while in the Character Selection screen. Our free 701-page Strategy Guide also provides detailed character information, and is downloadable here: http://whitegiantrpg.com/download/
Our team elected not to charge our international friends for shipping, nor anyone else. We feel that the pledges offered to us are already very generous.
Try downloading the Last Dream demo from a mirror site like IndieDB.com. This site has a separate copy of the demo (vs. WhiteGiantRPG.com), thereby avoiding some hosting issues. Thanks for bringing this to our attention.
You can change the key mappings in both the demo and the full version of Last Dream by pressing F1 while in the game. Then, select either the gamepad or keyboard tab to reassign keys/buttons to your preference. You'll also find instructions and default mappings in the README file contained in the main demo folder.
