27 hours left!!!

Well, the title says it all. It looks like we're going to make the Companions stretch goal, but are we going to make the NPC schedules goal ? They say anything is possible on Kickstarter, but there's still some distance cover. The only thing that's sure is that we'll know tomorrow!

Companions, revisited

Our latest companions video update wasn't very good. That's why we did a new one, containing much more information on exactly what it is we're planning to do, and what the difference is between Henchmen and Companions. It's a bit of a designer class and it features Swen's most horrible handwriting, but hopefully it'll answer the questions people have been asking.

Editor magic

We have a cool game editor and we like showing it off because we want the modding community to seriously start thinking about what RPG adventures they're going to make with it. In this latest editor update, Wannes, whizkid extraordinaire shows you how you can modify materials in Divinity: Original Sin to achieve some very cool effects. Cool stuff!

Physical Add-ons For Digital Tiers Now Possible!

Feel free to browse our physical add-ons, pick the ones you like and add their cost + shipping to your digital pledge!

  • Shipping within Europe: $10
  • Shipping to the rest of the world: 15$

In Closing

We can't believe how fast the pledge counter is going. To be honest, while we dreamt of it, we never expected that we'd even have a chance of reaching the NPC schedule stretch goal. Now it looks like during the final countdown, it could actually happen, though it'll still require a mad end-rush. One thing is sure - if we make this stretch goal, we'll need extra room in the office! I wish I had a crystal ball.

Overview of add-ons

Because there have been a lot of new backers these last days and a lot of information is burried within the updates, we'll be including the add-on possibilities in each new update from now on. Add-ons allow you to customize your rewards.

How? After you pledge, add one (or more) of the following amounts to your pledge. To do this after you have already pledged, click the "Manage Pledge" button and add the amount of the add-on to your pledge. Keep your selected reward tier. Once this Kickstarter is over, we will contact you so you can specify what add-on(s) you wish to receive.

Digital add-ons require a base pledge of $25. Physical add-ons require a physical tier (starting at $65).

  • Weresheep Forum Badge, In the Credits as a Weresheep, a hint: add $6

Very detailed rundown. Don't know how anyone can misunderstand anything after this explanation.

    2. Raze_Larian on

That's too bad. I guess they decided there wouldn't be enough time to get the editor ready for the alpha/beta releases.

If one main character is doing something to loose the affection stat of a companion and the other to raise it, then the affection stat between the two main characters would be lowered, as well. This could also come into play with the companion; even if they like one main character, they may not want to be involved in the party if the two main characters really don't get along.

      Bubu91 on

      Could someone explain me this:

In other rpgs, you have only one character to play at a time, so when you loose the "affection" of a companion you like you feel like you lost something important. In Original Sin you have two characters and the moment say the man looses the affection of a companion, the woman gain some affection. So you as a player haven't lost anything rly. Or did I understand it wrong?

I messaged them asking about the editor:
"I was curious if the Alpha or Beta Access would come with access to the editor as well?

If not, I would be extremely interested in you guys creating a new digital add-on for early access to the editor (pre-release or beta).

      Here was their response:

I'm afraid you'll have to wait for the final release of the game to play with the editor. Then it's yours forever though! :-)

    5. Raze_Larian on

      @Watser / Entropy
If Larian doesn't have the time and resources to allow multiple player character races in their next game, maybe they should go with a non-human by default. Non-human playable characters were talked about as a possible stretch goal early in the kickstarter, before the current goals were decided upon.

The editor might be included as early as the alpha, and should be included with the beta.

      @Craig McAllister
The original $95 physical tier was closed (well, the limit reduced) and a new one added in order to clarify the description (specifically, that Dragon Commander was included with the digital $95 tier, but not the physical $95 tier (due to its the higher costs), but as long as they were doing that they could make additional updates).

The DD HD add-on is the current Steam / GOG / Anthology version.

    6. Ziffy "zifnabbe"

      That's a kewl editor!

    7. tarasis on

Very impressed by the editor. I loved the magic effect on the statue (and the snow & glass one), perfect for someone disappearing while tied to a stake to scare the villagers witless.

The $666 pledge is real and will charge your card if you pledge it. Raze did answer this question in an earlier update comment section

Larian studios I love you and have increased my pledge from 25 to 40. I am very happy that 800k is being reached. Now I have a great game to play after I finish my Ph.D :p

Sorry if this question was already answered, I just can't find the info.
Does Divinity Anthology (digital) include Divine Divinity Digital Version (HD)?

Anyone know the dimensions of the cloth map?

    14. Frank Flury on

Larian Studios this is for you.
I love you guys and all your people! I pledged over $650.
Today I'm upset and disappointed with you all, I've requested support from your sights about username changes and about the Weresheep hint pledge of $666, and even asked other places about the $666 to no avail!
What is the deal with the $666 pledge, will it be charged to my credit card or is it just a metaphor.
      Other people are asking too.
Pease respond. I've been tracing kickstarter everyday since my first pledge, I even keep a running chart of pledges and the bucks.
      Thanks loyal follower frank.

    15. Paul Kostrzewa on

I'm glad that my first Kickstarter backing was for this game; the Divinity Series is one of my favorite RPG francises and I'm really happy to have been able to help.

    16. Matthew van Andel on

I'm with Veav. I'm really, really, really, REALLY hoping that we hit the day/night + schedules stretch goal. That, by far, is the most interesting and impactful of all the stretch goals. I'm completely indifferent about the Henchman and Homestead goals... but day/night + NPC schedules would make the game the game for me.

    17. Veav on

Put me down as crossing fingers for NPC schedules over companions. I'm used to "flat" NPCs and commoners; I expect them, I realize they follow simple routines, I'm not disappointed when I spot the strings. But day/night cycles and weather are HUGE for me! I don't even care if they don't impact anything, they just really bring an area to life.

    18. Gonchi on

Can someone explain the Weresheep hint thing?

    19. Roman - Jagged Weresheep of Sin on

      Just freeze urself like cartman.

    20. Weresheep of BAAAH on

@LC: thanks, I'm starting to lean towards the map. I'll give it a couple more hours, see how I feel then :D

    21. Armin Wolff on

Hm... not to be nagative or anthing... but I actually kind of hope you DON'T make the final stretchgoal >8)
NPC schedules, weather and day/night cycles might be realistic, immersice and kinda cool. But truth be told, I can live without ANY of that if it save me hours and hours and hours of wasted gameplay, chasing down quest givers or waiting for #§$% shops to open :-P

    22. Einherjar101 on

Is there going to be a tutorial with the editor?

If not would you consider asking your designers to make one to ship with the editor. Something that walks you through creating a few simple objects and then maybe putting them all in a house. Could go further even by maybe showing us how to create an npc with dialog to make a small treasure hunt quest within this house.
      Anyway its just an idea.

    23. Mihai Hornet on

Paypal added, $800k goal is reached. :)

    24. LordCrash on

      @ Jan Grilanc
There is no information about design/size of the cloth map available yet. But it will be a "real" cloth map, canvas style (no paper imitation). :)

    25. LordCrash on

      No difference

    26. Craig McAllister on

Is there a difference between the two $95 Physical Tiers listed? The second one lists more rewards on the side panel but they are not separated on the rewards table.

    27. Weresheep of BAAAH on

@Trashie: I'd lend it to you, but I have no time... :3

Guys, help me out here: has anybody seen how Cloth Map will look like? I'm trying to decide, if I should get that or possibly an OST instead. I'd take both, but can't really afford it at this time.

Oh, and the obligatory part of the post:
      It's gonna be awesome!

      It's gonna be awesome! :)

    33. Jan on

      Just copying this here too:

Okay, let's clear up some confusion!

If you pledge to back a henchman you will get to design a character and yes, he or she will have a unique background and dialogue. The difference between them and companions is simply that the story line of companions will be very deep and diverse - like Dragon Commander. There will be a limited number of them because they require very very much work. We can't possible do that for every henchman.

But that is where the difference ends. You'll make the guy or girl you like; design their look; their abilities; their build; their background; what they have to say. They will feel like individuals, not puppets, it's just that they won't have separate quests.

Have another look at this video:…

Between minutes 3.04 and 3.34 you can see Axel customising a character. This is an example of how you'll be able to create a look for your hench(wo)man.

I hope this answer helps to undo the confusion!

You guys have so much momentum right now, I think you're gonna make it to 1 million or at least really close!

    35. LordCrash on

      Ah, it should be adjusted:
Digital add-ons require a base pledge of $25. Physical add-ons require a physical tier (starting at $65) or a digital tier (starting at $25, but you have to add $10/$15 (Europe/non-Europe) for shipping)

    36. Shane-o - WoOS on

How many people are working on Divinity: Original Sin and what beer/alcohol do you lot drink?

Very good job on this second update to the companions, thank you very much. I have a few questions still, but these are the kinds of questions that I think haven't been fully decided within the company yet and thus am in no rush to get answers too, but thank you very much for doing the second video.

    38. Garod Weresheep in Need [WESIN] on

@Larian can you also please remove this line from the update?

Digital add-ons require a base pledge of $25. Physical add-ons require a physical tier (starting at $65).

it contradicts what you said earlier

    39. S. van Hengel on

Looking forward to tomorrow's "Companions" video ... :P

Hey, Larian, does the backers numbers from paypal counts towards the phantom forest levels?

    43. Stabbey on

That editor magic is insane. Editor magic is insane. Magic is insane. Is Insane. Insane.

    44. The Arrow on

@ekster: Paying extra for early release of the editor? I'd do that too!

@Larian: Maybe have that as an extra add-on? Alpha/beta releases of the editor? I would definitely buy into that, especially if it meant you would be able to port it to Linux (and OSX too of course).

    45. Skyl--- on

Guys, the money I added on to my pledge is not to be used for any add-ons or WOOS membership or whatever... It's to be used for beer only. I hope after conversion to EUR and KS fees, you'll still have enough for 2 crates of pils. Creative minds need refreshment, especially with this nice weather, so make sure my money goes to this noble cause: providing Larian with beer :)

    46. ekster

This might be a crazy question and not that possible... but, considering this update, is there any way at all to release the editor a bit earlier for the backers? Those of us who love modding, creating campaigns, etc. would be in haven if that happens.

I'd be even willing to increase my pledge for that opportunity! :p

    47. Shane-o - WoOS on

      *adds $5 to combat error*

    48. The Arrow on

@Shane-o, @LC: If you had said "no" then I would probably have added that add-on too besides the anthology. You just "lost" Larian $5! ;)

    49. Shane-o - WoOS on

Ah yes, I remember Swen saying something like that :) Thanks
