Kickstarter Update 46 - Having a bad day? Let us console you…

Posted by Larian Studios LLC (Creator)

Welcome to Kickstarter Update #46!

It's been a busy few months for us, and in our radio silence we’ve been hiding a few big secrets. We’re about ready to burst with the news, so here’s Swen with an update!

We’ve been hard at work and are delighted we can finally announce our big news:

Divinity: Original Sin 2 will be coming to PS4 and Xbox One in August this year!

We’re partnering with Bandai Namco Entertainment, the same folks who brought us legendary titles like Pacman, Soul Calibur, and Dark Souls. We’re excited to be working with them, and they'll be working tirelessly to get copies of Divinity: Original Sin 2 to all four corners of Rivel-... um, Earth!

PAX East

We're just back from PAX East, and our fans took to couch co-op like fire arrows to an oil surface. Since everyone was using split-screen and controllers, Swen took the opportunity to test a new build with some of the features coming to the console edition of Divinity: Original Sin 2.

Your feedback has always been invaluable to us, and we’re still listening! Its safe to say that your number one request in Divinity: Original Sin 2 was for a better journal, so we’ve been hard at work on just that. Our new and improved journal still won't hold you by the hand, but it will be a more direct and useful tool.

  • We’ve shortened the text to make it clear what you are supposed to do.
  • We’ve split multiple paths within the same quest into subdivisions.
  • When the journal gives you map markers, you can now jump straight from that journal entry to the specific marker on the map screen.

The second biggest request we’ve received is for better inventory management. While we began by looking for ways to tweak the system, we ultimately decided the best idea was to redo it from the ground up.

Here’s a screenshot of the party inventory system while playing with a controller:

You’ll soon be able to see your whole party's inventory at-a-glance, and we’ve also added multi-selecting. This will make it easier to bulk-select items to add to your wares or hand over to your teammates.

Let there be tunes!

We’re also excited to say that the soundtrack to Divinity: Original Sin 2 is coming out on vinyl! Our wonderful composer Borislav Slavov’s incredible soundtrack is coming on limited edition 180g double vinyl this month. The full soundtrack is out now on all streaming services (Spotify, Apple Music, etc.), and Bandcamp, too.

The vinyl is pressed on high quality 180 gram vinyl and comes in Audiophile Black, Red/Black Starburst, and Gold. It sounds beautiful, and this is definitely one for the collection. (Don't own a record player? Now might be a good time to invest in one). As an added bonus, the vinyl comes with the soundtrack's printed sheet music. If you've ever wanted to bard it up with one of Bobby's amazing tracks, now's your chance.

Finally, we were surprised by the arrival of an unexpected award this week - The Metacritic Award! Our Metacritic score represents the game's collected critical opinion. This award is given to titles that earned a score above 90, and DOS2 finished 2017 with a 93. It's a tremendous privilege, and we're very happy to have earned the distinction.

A large part of this journey started with the Kickstarter for the first Divinity: Original Sin, followed of course by this campaign for Divinity: Original Sin 2. To all our backers, thank you again for supporting us when our games were still little more than twinkles in our eyes. Your belief in us empowered our team to create something we can all share together.

More news to come

All of the above is just a taste of what we’ve been working on, and we’ve much more news to come! In the meantime, we can't thank you enough for the support, passion, and feedback you’ve given (and continue to give) us!

@Dan 5e D&D in the DOS engine would be amazing! 😀 Really WoTC should give them the license as they are the most qualified by far to do it.

    2. Kevin on

@Lee Thompson - I highly doubt we'll get an EE of DoS2. The reason we got it with the first one is they got so much funding from it doing so well after launch. They had the funds to begin with this time around to basically do everything they wanted so it isn't needed. Anything they've wanted to add since launch has just been patched in.

    3. Kevin on

Not boring or disappointing at all. Very excited for this patch is there an ETA for PC version?

Boring. When are you going to talk about new stuff? Very disappointing.

    5. Dan Spezzano on

When will you officially announce you're making a 5E D&D game based on the DOS engine? E3 perhaps? :->

      @Runar Jenssen
I have emailed the person in charge of fulfillment to check on the status of your CE.
I don't see any email from your Kickstarter email account to the support or Kickstarter email addresses.

      @Stephanie Henkel
You have linked your Kickstarter pledge to your Larian Vault account, so you just need to log in to request game keys.

After logging in, click the D:OS 2 Kickstarter menu entry, then under 'Your Choices & Input', scroll down to the game listings, select either Steam or GOG for each key, click on the OK button and then click the link that gets added to request a key for the selected platform.

Other digital rewards (that are ready) are also available in that section. After following the instructions there, the rewards will be added to your account, under 'Your Games'.
Collector's Edition versions of the game will include some of the digital extras through Steam and GOG.

    7. Lee Thompson on

Are we going to end up with a DOS2 Enhanced Edition (PC) then?

(And whenever you're ready to DOS3, please, take my money!)

It would also be great to see addressed some of the major issues (particularly the essentially broken initiative system) noted in the RPG Codex review here (…). Any chance of that happening in a future game update?

      Mike on

Really happy to see the inventory screen improvements (multi-select items to send them to "junk"/"wares" is something I was asking for on the Larian forums way back during the D:OS alpha!). But the update isn't clear as to whether the journal and inventory improvements will be for the PC version as well, or only for the PS4/Xbox. Larian - please tell me these are coming to a PC game update too!

Great to hear of your success, but like other backers, I would also like to hear news about a macOS port.

    11. Andy Linea of Sin - DOoD on

I just love this game, we put 190 hours in it with my better half, and we also love the physical goods. I'm sure they will have a lot to show us in the following months, maybe also the missing ports, who knows. :)

Flump - the flying turtle on

Are you going to do a linux/macos port ? I played d:os on linux and it worked quite well.
Also I don't understand why the lack of announcement on your next game. I know the industry likes to build suspense and such but in the past you were always much more open on what was going on and where things were headed. Please don't become like the rest of the industry...

      Sean Corrigan on

While I LOVE the fact that you're not snubbing the Xbox, I kickstarted the game for Steam, don't want to buy two copies of the game, and I play on a Mac. Where is the Mac port, please.

Would be great if Mac and Linux ports would be in that 'more news to come' part.

    16. Jack Miller on

What about the mac port that you promised?

Any chance of a mac port?

    18. Ethan Furman

Would love to see those changes on the PC version! Would love to see everyone got their rewards!

    19. Royce Thigpen on

Gee, those Journal/Inventory changes look really nice. We would -LOVE- to have them on PC.

Thank you guys! Proud backer of the first and 2nd game, so happy for your success on the 2nd one !! Keep at it !!
