WE ARE FUNDED! STRETCH GOAL #1 IS IN SIGHT!
At $2500, ALL non-PDF reward tiers $10 and higher will include the duJour Trading Card:
Roadkill du Jour in the voice of our hero - duJour himself:
Deep in the Delta, there be strife – rival clans warrin’ for the favor’a all the spirits’a animal, vegetable an’ mineral. I’m the last’a my clan – that Roadkill Motorcycle club, ever’one cut low by Mama Houdoo’s boys an’ th’evils in her thrall. Now, I ride alone, just me an’ my curse…can’t eat nothin’ but carrion, an’ then the spirit’a the dead thang fill me up an’ take over. Put a buzzard in my belly, I grow wings. I pick over a possum, I see in the dark an’ hang from a tree. But I don’t fret none ‘bout curses. I use’em to satisfy the vengeance what occupy my mind. Vengeance for the boys’a the Roadkill MC. For the shade'a my ole lady. And for my very own lost soul. - duJour
But, the story behind the story goes back a couple of years. Writer Kevin LaPorte concocted its foundation during road trips to comic conventions supporting horror comic Clown Town amidst discussions with the illustrious artist of that project, Amanda Rachels. LOTS of dead critters on the road in the Southeast U.S. where we were driving, and those times were at the height of Sons of Anarchy couture. Thus, an off-hand comment like, "What if there was a hero who got animal powers from eating roadkill," became the high concept of a badass biker who HAD to eat the roadkill due to a voodoo curse placed on him by a rival gang priestess! TA-DAAAAA! Roadkill du Jour!
Having befriended Shawn Harbin (BSX22 Studios' The Dungeon Comic) during those years, Kevin - fledgling writer that he was - naturally begged him to provide art for a number of stories. In the Spring of 2012, forces converged to actually make it happen. Shawn took a look at the concept and initial scripts for Roadkill du Jour and decided to come on board! He recruited spectacular illustrator Laura Guzzo to provide colors, and the Roadkill team was cemented.
Roadkill du Jour is a 4-issue story, divided into 20-page issues, the first of which is the object of this funding campaign. Funds collected will go first to fees, taxes, printing and production of books and rewards, and fulfillment (shipping, supplies, etc.). Any funds remaining beyond those expenses will go toward compensating the creators, marketing and distributing the project (via print, digital and personal appearances at conventions and retailers), and expanding the size of the print run (dependent upon demand).
Kevin LaPorte is the Mobile, Alabama-based writer and co-creator of genre comics with a horror bent - Roadkill du Jour, Clown Town, The Blind Eye! The worlds Kevin creates range from dark carnivals overrun by killer clowns violently avenging abused children (Clown Town) to dying frontier towns in the Old West beset by Steampunk versions of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse (the in-development Last Ride for Horsemen) to the bayou territory of a lone motorcycle gangster seeking vengeance for his cursed appetite for street meat and the slaughter of his brothers-in-arms (Roadkill du Jour)! Most recently, Kevin contributed poetry and lyrics to Ancients & Warriors: The Sketch Art of Gavin Michelli, featuring the figure work of collaborator, Gavin Michelli.
Shawn Harbin is an enigmatic writer and artist mostly known for his work on The Dungeon Comic. The man himself is saturated with sardonic wit and pragmatic rants railing against man’s failure to live up to the laws of natural selection. Highly influenced by artists Todd McFarlane, John Romita Sr., Humberto Ramos, Frank Cho, Jay Leisten, and Jeff Koonz, Shawn’s talents as a penciler and storyteller are stimulated by some of the best in and out of the comic art world. His art is a mixture of hot babes, intelligent monsters, and campy humor wrapped in twisted darkness and highly innovative layouts.
Laura Guzzo is a freelance illustrator whose award-winning artwork has been featured in galleries across the East Coast. Laura enjoys working in many different media, including colored pencils, watercolor, and collage. She draws inspiration from tarot cards and stained glass, as well as from 1950's pin-up girls and the art nouveau movement. Laura currently works out of a studio in South Jersey. Her most recent projects include Shakespeare Shaken (Red Stylo Media) and PrinceLess (Action Lab Comics). To see more, visit: www.LauraGuzzoArt.com

Risks and challenges
There are few to NO risks in the completion and fulfillment of this project. As the Kickstarter campaign launches, the entirety of the story content, art - colors - letters - is completely rendered! Aside from some minor, pre-press adjustments, there's little to do. In fact, we're well into development on Roadkill du Jour #2! We are committed to having ALL production work completed by the time the Kickstarter campaign ends, so that only printing and fulfillment must be accomplished after funding is achieved.
Printer delays are obviously beyond our control, but we are working with a high-end, reliable company that we are confident will deliver within the prescribed timeframe for fulfillment.
Our first obligation is to you, the BACKER. Given your support and trust in us, we ALWAYS aim to have the creative aspect of the project COMPLETE before there is even funding in hand, to ensure you get what you paid for at the highest possible level and within the shortest possible timeframe!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
