For example, getting your wisdom high, and solving several encounters through negotiation can lead to less battles.
You can also decide which quests you want to fulfill, and dungeon delving can help you getting your hands on better items, it's not a necessity.
As time is valuable in this game, you wanna take the ones that you can beat, but also can give you the best rewards possible.
