About this project
What is Kickstarter? It is a place to receive backing for creative projects. Kickstarter is not a site that facilitates charitable donations. Pledges are based on rewards (please look down and to the right to see them). Most people choose a reward that they are comfortable with. In addition the purchase of a reward in no way indicates your approval or endorsement of this film or any of the contents therein. It just means that you are interested in viewing the film. I hope you view it with a critical mind. Of course Kickstarter does allow for pledges of any size, so if you feel inclined you may pledge generously.
The Vision of the Film: We plan to create easy segments featuring heartfelt stories from individuals who faced adversity because of linguistic prejudice. (These segments will then be put together to form our film.) Their stories of both survival and perseverance, along with commentaries from experts in the field of linguistics will shed light on the struggles so many have faced, and leave the viewer with a profound new outlook on how language serves human beings.
The Mission: In a few days I am leaving California to travel across the country, searching for those who have persevered and triumphed in the face of linguistic prejudice; and those who bear the scars of failed language policies — to let them tell their stories, and give them a voice again.
The Team: We are a husband and wife team with a few volunteers who help out with technical issues.
The Goal: This film is about raising awareness and spreading a message that honors linguistic diversity and tolerance.
This film is about people and their stories.
Our goal of $10,000 will help pay for overhead costs, travel expenses, equipment rentals, and production costs.
The Motivation: Diversity and tolerance are important in today’s world. The six years I spent in the American South gave me an appreciation for linguistic diversity and the need for tolerance. That’s why I started studying linguistics.
I learned that linguistic prejudice is not just something that conservatives do, it's not just something that liberals do. Linguistic prejudice is not isolated in certain countries.
After I became aware of this prejudice, I decided to embark on a journey. That led me to the creation of this film..
