Crits Happen video preview!

Testimonial

"A friend and I playtested Space Junk at Gen Con 2013. Over four days we played well over a dozen new games. Out of all of them, Space Junk is the one we can't stop talking about. Like most really good games, it has a few simple mechanics that support many strategies for winning and has high replayability. Beyond that, it was just super fun. We spent two hours laughing and having a great time. That is the highest praise you can give any game."

Overview

Space Junk is a game set in the future where the players are contestants on the hit reality tv show Space Junk. The object of the game is to win the big fat cash prize the producers offer by being the player with the most fame. The game is played over six rounds each consisting of 3 phases: Move, Attack, and Search. During the move phase you move your ship around the board scoring points for each lap completed. In the attack phase you launch an attack on another player scoring 3 points for each successful hit. In the search phase players draw cards and redesign their ships for the next round. After six rounds players add the fame points on all the junk cards they have collected to what they gained throughout the game, and whoever has the highest total wins.

Space Junk is our first project at Lamp Light Games and we want our first game to be one that can be enjoyed by a large range of people. Space Junk can be enjoyed by new gamers, experienced gamers, young and old . It is a game that is simple to learn, there are no complex rules or crazy strategies, the bulk of the game comes from the player interaction brought about by the crazy ships and game events.

We are using Kickstarter as a way to reach a large focused group of people who love games as much as we do! We also need your support, there is no way to skirt the issue! In order for us to be able to deliver more great games we need to start with one, and we need great supporters like you to make it happen! We could invest the money required to print the game but feel that Kickstarter is a great way to show you we care. We want to get to know the people in our great gaming community, and what better way than this!?

The money you pledge for this campaign will go towards finishing the art, manufacturing the games, printing some extra copies and bringing down shipping costs (yes we are subsidizing shipping to make it more affordable). Lamp Light Games has invested all of the money for advertising, art, design, and development thus far and will do the same with the next game as needed.

Risks and challenges

There are a few obvious risks and challenges with our very first game. We have, what we feel is a great game. A game that is fun for the whole family, but we don't have the trust of the game community yet. We have worked hard at building relationships with people and being genuine in everything we do. It is our hope that you will put your trust in us, and that we can deliver without fail.

We have already commissioned the art work and graphic design, and have chosen professionals who can deliver what we feel people deserve when they invest in our game: A high quality, great looking and lasting game that you will be proud to own. The art work is still underway, as is the graphic design and I have chosen the timing quite specifically. While it would be great to have the game complete before the project starts, it would not be a prudent decision for the company's future success. We want to make sure you guys want our game before we invest the finances to finish it. After all it's Kickstarter, we are depending on you to show us if this is a game worth publishing for your friends and family. The fact that we think it's great is irrelevant, plus we want your input as we complete the project anyways!

Another big risk is manufacturing and distribution. I have done research on different manufacturers and settled on Panda game mfg as our choice, not only was their price on target, their customer service and communication is great. For shipping I have decided to use Amazon as our shipping channel. Amazon can offer fast reliable and inexpensive shipping of bulk orders and has shipping centers in Canada, the US and also EU. We will be shipping quantities of games directly from the manufacturer to the different Amazon locations. Also, I have been working with a warehousing and distribution company in the US for our continued storage, sales and distribution, post kickstarter if we are successful.

Another challenge is delivering on time. We have the final rules book, design and art in the process already and if the project is successful will be complete by the end of November. We will have additional art to complete because of the several pledge rewards. This will take us about a month to complete. The manufacturers are waiting on our files and deposit to start the process, this we plan to have complete by about Mid January. To give you some insight in the process of manufacturing I will quote Panda:

"Pre-production 25 - 45 days (Files are uploaded, analyzed, adjusted, and re-submitted until they are print ready. Component samples are also created based on design files)
checkpoint: pre-production copy (proofs, samples, and mockup are received by client and approved)

Mass production 40 - 60 days (Full-scale production commences, components are shipped to our main assembly base, printed components are climatized, quality assurance is conducted, games are assembled)
checkpoint: mass production copy (final retail version of game is sent to client for approval)

Shipping 30 - 45 days (Order is prepared for shipping based on client's request)
checkpoint: order received at warehouse or final delivery address"

On the high side, this gives us 5 months from the start of the process which we hope is Jan 1st. That would run us into June, but we expect that there will be some some challenges along the way, thus the expected July delivery. If all goes perfect though we plan on getting your games sent out early!

If you have any questions or concerns please contact me directly and I will answer as quick as I can, Thanks!
