Rachael Duddy - Featuring La MaMa Cantata Performer!
Meet La MaMa Cantata featured performer, Rachael Duddy:
Rachael Duddy hails from the small town of Falmouth, Maine, and is thrilled to be making her first trip over seas with the cast of La MaMa Cantata.
Rachael's favorite moment of the Cantata and why she is so excited to go on tour: "I must admit, when I first began working on The La MaMa Cantata, I did not know who Ellen was. Thinking about that now, I kick myself. For most of my life I have lived and breathed music and theatre, and it was this passion that brought me to New York City. It is safe to say, that the theatre world and my experience of it would be incredibly different had it not been for Ellen Stewart. Throughout her time on Earth, she was a pioneer, demanding a better life for herself and for those she loved. Even after her passing, La MaMa continues to push boundaries, and Ellen's message of unconditional love is carried on through artists who found a home at her theatre. I am eternally grateful to Ellen for what she has done for the world of theatre. My performance of La MaMa Cantatais for her, and for Liz Swados who has become my inspiration since I began working with her. Liz has helped me to discover the artist that I truly want to be and given me the tools to become just that. She has taught me that in theatre there is always joy to be found. I came to New York to study, but when I met Liz, I found a home. She does for me in many ways what Ellen did for her, and the inspiration and lessons from every experience I share with her are invaluable. I am so fortunate and honored to be able to share this experience with her and the cast of The La MaMa Cantata overseas, and I know that the audiences there will be just as moved by the piece as they were here."

This is an interview that she did for an art show in Maine about how Rachael started doing theatre.
A graduate of NYU's Tisch School of the Arts, Rachael began her musical career studying classical voice, however her love of rock and blue grass never strayed far from her mind. Long drives through the back woods of Maine gave Rachael the opportunity to expand her love of music, and take inspiration from of the likes of Joni Mitchell, Cat Stevens, Bob Dylan and Janice Joplin. Fate stepped in 2009 when Liz and Rachael worked on their first show together at New York University. Today, Rachael lives in Brooklyn and is still constantly striving to expand her knowledge of music. She is excited to share Liz's music and Ellen's story, and spread this amazing message of love and perseverance through La MaMa Cantata.
