No one knows how or when they appeared, but the BUGs are here. At first they seemed like glitch, a purple blip on the screen, creeping in from a gap. And then they got bigger, and bigger, and started to bite. They'd show up in the middle of the Abbey, eating up Mario or ruining your best game of Golden Ax.
The BUGs have invaded all your classic games. These games that made you so happy as a child are now being conquered by these monsters from another dimension. If things continue like this, there will be no classic games left.
Don't despair! There is a singular group of intractable warriors with the ability to stop them, a group of fighters equipped with the cutting-edge tech and the determination of all the classic game characters: the BUGBUSTERs are here too.
As a BUGBUSTER, your missions is to stop the invasion of the BUGs and find the cure.
The BUGMISTRESS, supreme leader of the BUGs, will stop at nothing to eliminate the threat, and will launch her final attack against them. Will the BUGBUSTERs survive this attack? Will they be able to eliminate all the BUGs?
POWERUP is a 2D Dungeon Crawler simulating classic 16-bit Run and Gun platform games. It’s cooperative, with the option to play in skirmish mode competitively.

POWERUP is a table top game for 1 to 5 players inspired by classic platform video games. Specifically the Run-And-Gun ones.
Remember how it felt to meet your best friend at the local arcade to play? We loved that feeling! And that’s why we decided to create this game. We want to bring you back to that place, and to be able share it with a younger generation as well.
You will be part of an elite squadron in charge of eliminating Earths’ biggest threat: The BUGS. The BUGS are creatures from an X Dimension who delight in annoying and tormenting humans crossing their path. Only a small elite group has the skills to stop them, and that’s you guys: The BUGBUSTERS! Run, shoot, punch, pummel, pick up coins and upgrade your character. Destroy the BUGs to win.

The cards and the elements of the game are maintained in English for consistency with the arcades of 1990. The Manual comes in both English and Spanish.

2D DUNGEON CRAWLER
The modular board is in 2D. Like in classic platform games, a BUGBUSTER can move side to side or up and down. But be careful, don’t go down too fast!

Play the perilous “Escape the HQ” campaign cooperatively. Enjoy Arcade Mode playing with friends on 8 types of missions. Challenge your friends to play “Death Match” and earn more victory points than your rivals.
Emulating classic 16-bit platforms the whole game is in pixel art. Discover the details in each card that will bring back the wonderful memory of these games.

Everything you need for Campaigns and Arcade Mode is in the basic box. Pressed 2mm cardboard tokens are battle-ready.
The basic game comes with 8 different BUGBUSTERS to choose from. Each of them with different traits and game strategy.
Turn your character into EPIC and destroy hordes of bugs in a burst. But be warned, EPIC mode doesn’t last forever.
The BugMaster’s ranks are comprised of 8 different types of BUGs with different qualities and strategies. Destroying each of them will require a different approach.
Gear up at the POWERUP portals. In the basic game there are 32 special weapons with which to arm your warrior.
With the POW! cards you will have an ace up your sleeve in BUSTER to BUG combat These cards will give you advantages with extra dice rolls or additional character qualities to help you crush your rivals.

Over 1 year ago we set out to create a board game emulating the platform classics. This was our first prototype game in 2017.
For us one of the key parts of developing the game has been testing it as much as possible. We have spent hundreds of hours assembling and taking apart game features, our goal was for balance and a game pace that made it challenging and fun. The premise has always been KISS (Kept It Simple & Sexy). We wanted a fast-paced game but with a strategy component that made it replayable.
We have given a lot of thought to the role of the bad guy. We wanted this role to have it's own strategy. It's important to us that the player who leads the BUGs has lots of fun doing it.
HERE COMES A NEW CHALLENGER
In this expansion we broadened the scope of available characters with 32 new BUGBUSTERS. These new characters are very lethal and have some wild powers. Adding new characters allows you to have spectacular DeathMatch games.
The MERCS expansion allows you to hire services of mercenaries and bounty hunters to favor your side of the gameplay. Whether you are a BUGBUSTER or BUG you can hire them to help you change coins or spawn points.

Game stores are special places, safe havens to daydream and let your inner-child out for a bit. So we want you guys to have something special from us: Store Reward cards.
Store Rewards are cards that give a player an additional advantage for their character at the beginning of the game. Each of these improvement cards is printed with the name of the store where it was received. In the game, if you lose against a player and you have equipped your character with the Store Reward, you must hand it over to the player who has defeated you.
It's a tough rule, we know, but this brings more fun and risk when playing with these advantages. It's also a big thanks to stores backing the campaign. If you are a store and you take one of the store packages we will provide you with a rewards pack personalized to your store.

This project is very important to us. For us the 80s and 90s were our earliest childhood and all the pop culture of the times made us who we are today. For this product we have invested love and care into all the tiny details, so that the experience of testing it was always the best. The materials, the colors, the names, the references, the game system ... have been carefully examined and worked through, in order to have a product that we are proud of and that would be as important to you as it is to us.
The final product is amazing, it is a game that makes people smile and bring back their childhood, showing to younger generations many of the things that now make us as we are. It brings on laughter, unrest, chaos, and epic moments that make people always want to play another game.
We want to continue expanding this universe, to bring continuity to it and to be able to add new extensions building from the basic game and nurturing the engagement we've seen players experience.

We are a study of game creators in which we have a lot of senior profiles of the audiovisual sector. This is our first table game that comes to the conventional market, but we have a lot of experience as a consultant in gamification of companies and advertising campaigns.

This is me in the nineties, watching my uncle shoot the first BUGGIE. I've been playing all my life. I love videogames and tabletop games... since I played the first Star Crusade all board games seemed like ways the author spoke to me, bringing me in. Today, I work as a Creative Director of a large full-service agency, with clients like Adidas, Samsung or Puig. I bring gamification to all our ad projects. This game is one my post personal works, a way to let my imagination run wild and tell a story.
In the nineties I was completely immersed in music and film. But as you can see from the photo, I was more of a nerd than a cool-kid rocker. Can I blame computers? The Internet became my world when we were both super-young. So I ended up working at websites and then as a User Experience Designer at tech firms. I love games with great artwork and intuitive rules, which are also my favorite things about POWERUP.

Risks and challenges
The game is 100% complete and playable, and the only design changes at this point will be those generated by different rewards. The money is for production of copies based on the prototype . We have a trustworthy manufacturing partner, but there is always the chance of a slight delay inproduction.
The date that we have set is a date that takes that type of setback into consideration, so it's likely we will have it before and therefore send it out earlier.
We will keep you informed about each step in the manufacturing process because we are very excited about the project and we want you, the people making it possible, to participate in this excitement with us.
We have made sure that the production of the game is done by a single manufacturer, avoiding depending on multiple suppliers.
