Spaceships & Starwyrms is a science fiction d20 game based on the foundations of 5th Edition.
A wiry Human woman guns the throttle of a contraband military vessel while navigating through an asteroid field. Her copilot, a round, squat creature with one eye on a long stalk, gleefully fires the ship’s plasma cannon at the pursuing bounty hunters. A gnarled hunk of meteorite lays in the hold. It pulses with the ultraviolet glow of dark matter magic. A vaguely humanoid android snaps a jeweler’s monocle into place on their optical sensor to get a closer look as a feline man takes a wrench to the smoking engine room.

At its core, S&S is born of our love for all things sci fi, from Blade Runner to Star Wars to Firefly to Halo. More than that, we wanted to stay true to the 5th edition philosophy of simplicity and accessibility. We strive at every turn to keep our rules and mechanics in the spirit of 5th edition while still bringing a plethora of new options to the table.
It costs a lot to print a high-quality, diligently-revised book of this length. That's where you, the backers, come in! We're Kickstarting a print run of the Spaceships & Starwyrms: Core Sourcebook to make sure we have the funding necessary to deliver as many copies of our game as the community wants.
With your support, we expect to deliver a full-color, 300+ page Core Sourcebook in addition to a Kickstarter-exclusive galactic adventure module and our very first supplementary book for the system: the Galactic Primer on Natural Environments, in both PDF and print formats. Our team consists of seasoned and new game designers, editors, graphic designers, and playtesters, so you can be sure you're getting a high quality product that will help you bring science fiction and science fantasy to your gaming table in an accessible, familiar format.
All of the Spaceships & Starwyrms products are built with maximum compatibility with 5th edition. While there is more than enough content to make this game stand alone, the 5th edition base classes and races will play with it just fine with only minor adjustments to equipment and proficiencies. S&S contains many of the rules included in the OGL, as well as suggestions for melding standard 5th edition to this game, so the Core Sourcebook contains all the information you need! No bouncing from book to book necessary.
All prints will be fulfilled by DriveThruRPG! They have proven time and again to be an excellent provider of quality for small publishers, so this choice was a no brainer.

Galactic Primer on Natural Environments
This never-before-released supplementary book contains 200+ more pages of sci fi goodness, this time with a nature bent. In this book you can find:
- 2 new augmented classes: the Planeshifter (druid) and the Survivalist (ranger)
- New archetypes for the adept, oracle, and scientist
- Over 100 new monsters
- More equipment, including bioware

Statues' Past: a Galactic Adventure Module
“In myth, there is often truth”, says Nuyabiali, a Saguarin historian. At their request, a group of explorers and researchers visits the lost Moicarran city of Hatarnakiorna. Once a site of religious importance, the desert city now lies abandoned - but not for long. Yours is not the only interested party in the wonders the ruined capital may hold. Can you contend with dangers, native and foreign, in the dusty city streets? This Kickstarter-exclusive module was written by HPP staffer Brandon Elliott and will take players through 4-8 sessions, starting at level 6.
Other Rewards: The Eternia Archive and Enamel Pins!
The first Galactic Adventure Module takes your party on a wild chase across the frontier after picking up some salvage that wasn't quite what was expected. Back at the Galactic Admiral level or above to pick up this adventure!
Additionally, some tiers will get to choose an enamel pin design! These pins will be full color, high-quality designs produced by PinDepot.

What does your pledge pay for?
As you can see, printing, shipping, and art are the bulk of our costs. Putting out a high-quality book of this size isn't cheap! Non-print rewards, such as the enamel pins, plus Kickstarter fees make up about 10% of our costs. The remaining ~10% is split between compensating our amazing staff writers and holding a little in reserve in case we run into an emergency during production - the emergency fund money should keep things running smoothly without us dipping further into personal accounts to deliver your goods on time! (But let's all keep our fingers crossed for a smooth production process and no emergencies so we can pay our staff writers even more!)

"What if I don't get my goods by Christmas?" we can hear you wondering. Don't worry! This timeline was built with extra space in mind. We know hiccups are likely and the print process isn't always easy, especially for a book this size! This timeline outlines the delivery dates assuming we need all the extra time. If we don't, then you're in luck: you'll get your stuff early!
If we get funded, we have some cool content and goodies to offer you! At 9K, we'll introduce you to a brand new species that will go into the Galactic Primer of Natural Environments. At 12K, we have a set of three 12x18 posters + digital wallpapers (sized for 1920x1080). And at 16K, there's another surprise! More goals have been set, but let's focus on funding, first!

Benjamin Quiggins is one half of the creator duo of S&S. Along with writing and development, he is also the rules guru, number cruncher, and social media manager. During daylight hours he's a chemist, but his twilight hours are spent playing, running, and designing games. He is often lost in one of his favorite settings, such as Mass Effect, The Dresden Files, or Magic the Gathering. Audrey Stolze is the other half of the creator duo of S&S. Development, writing, editing, layout, design, social media - she has her hands in a lot of pies. By day, she's a graphic designer and videographer. By night, in the few scant moments when she isn't playing or creating games, she enjoys hiking, volleyball, reading, and watching the same five movies over and over (The Fifth Element, Big Trouble in Little China, Akira, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, and Robots). She is better known in internet circles as Lady Tabletop.
Steve Mellifont has been involved in tabletop gaming and live action roleplay for 20 years, starting as a game master and designer. Through the years, his influences have included D&D, World of Darkness, Shadowrun, and HERO system. For HPP, Steve is a contributing writer and developer, notably on the Galactic Primer on Natural Environments.
Brandon Elliott is an aspiring homebrew creator with a passion for adventure. Author of Brandon’s Big Book of Bards, a Copper Seller on DMsGuild, Brandon brings a strong focus on solid mechanics and fun gameplay to the projects he works on. He is the author of the Kickstarter-exclusive module, Statues' Past.
Jared Wood wears a bunch of different hats - editing, soliciting vendors, accounting, financial analysis, and logistics. If it requires an eye for detail, he's probably had something to do with it. When he isn't balancing all of those hats, you can find him bouncing ideas off of his 3-legged cat, Apollo, or looking for a game of KeyForge.
Aaron Stolze is our resident VFX editor, cameraman, and avid Overwatch enthusiast. At HopePunk, he helps out with videos, events, layout (he made the character sheet!), and anything else that the team may need. Risks and challenges
This is our very first Kickstarter and we are a small team of people and a new publisher. We know there can be some trepidation when backing projects by untested publishers, but we are confident in the research and planning we have been doing since last year.
We have built time into our proposed delivery timeline to account for possible delays. We have gotten proofs from and spoken with multiple printers before deciding on DriveThruRPG to ensure you are getting the very best quality for your money.
Our playtesting and revisions have been extensive on all our products, and we have put in the time and effort to make sure that you are getting the most correct version of all our PDFs and prints. The delivery time on PDFs has been set to reflect the extra time we want to put in, ensuring that there is no need for major errata changes and no careless typos.
When this project went live, we had already completed final versions (both interactive and print pdfs) of the Core Sourcebook, Eternia Module, and Beginners' Kit. The Galactic Primer on Natural Environments and Statues' Past module are undergoing final revisions during the campaign. Any stretch goals or additional rewards were mapped out prior to the campaign, with artists and writers assigned to start the moment we know we have unlocked them.
We are only human, so despite all this planning, there are bound to be some hiccups in the process. We promise to be completely transparent throughout this campaign and its fulfillment, keeping you up to date if we run behind, hit a roadblock, or need to release errata after you have already received your rewards.
