Lady K Loves is a UK based clothing brand whose style is influenced by mid-century style with a nod to the likes of behind the scenes photos of Marylin Monroe, Jayne Russell and Jayne Mansfield. We design our clothes for a classic look with a sense of fun.See more at www.lady-k-loves.com
We are proud our items are fair trade and we take the idea of sustainable fashion seriously. The fashion and textile industry is renowned for being very hard on the environment and on the producers and we’re pleased to say we are working to make sure that, our clothing is fair trade made, that many of the fabrics used are organic, and or surplus end of line stock and that the dyes used have as little environmental impact as possible. This means not only do you get to look great, you get to know you’re wearing something limited edition and that makes a difference to people’s lives around the world.
We think about and work with your body shape too. This is especially important because our jeans sit on your natural waist line. They need to be fitted correctly in the rise and the hips so they don’t gape at the waist, or bag at the hips and bum, that they don’t sit too low down your leg or too high or give you wardrobe malfunctions! We think about what will be the right cut to give you the look that you would like. Women have all manner of wild and wonderful bodies, so it’s all about finding the right match for you so you look and feel great. There’s nothing better or more satisfying to us than seeing and hearing you have a new favourite item or are back in jeans having not worn them for YEARS!
Back in July 2016 we went to more denim, and we came across an issue. Various things had affected and changed how our suppliers worked, we had to change suppliers.
The denim we have used is a really high quality, 11.5oz indigo dyed, with 2% elastane meaning they have some stretch to keep them tight and they move with you. The denim shrinks in the first wash, and we provide them to you pre-shrunk …. which means that our patterns take into account the amount of shrinkage in the fabric and the end product is the right size.
Changing suppliers meant we had to take into consideration
- Risk of decreasing our denim quality in terms of durability - we like them to last!
- Matching the colour, texture and weight of the previous denim
- Needing to get a denim which had the same amount of stretch to the fabric to match the fit
- Needing to find denim which shrank the same way in the initial wash so we didn’t need to re-sample and re-do ALL of our patterns.
But! After months of searching, talking to suppliers and weird conversations with factories far afield which called us 'baby' (awkward) we have a match! Not only have we got a match in terms of the quality and shrinkage, we also have found a company which uses environmentally sustainable dyes and works in the local community to help the people and environment around its factory in Thailand. (Yey and double Yey!)
We’re committed to offering you a great product, durable denim, with the same awesome fit, and at an appropriate price. We’re not into fast fashion, so this isn’t going to be an overnight thing. The denim itself may take up to 30 days to be produced by the factory, and then shipping may also take a month. We are normally given a month for production too. Meaning from completion of this Kickstarter there is still a 3 month wait for stock.
The good news is, we’ll prioritise our Hug Me Baby and Le Wild styles, which have been the styles you have been asking for over the past few months. With a full range with options to swap sizes if you get the wrong one. If we hit stretch goals, we’ll have enough denim and funds for the Classic style too....AND we also want to launch a whole new style called Polly, a special cut just for petite girls! We have exciting plans waiting in the wings with another range of new denim products too! We’ll also have LOADS of denim stockpiled making it far quicker to get styles back into stock.
Even better we’re giving you the chance to get in early and secure the size you are after with an earlybird price. All kickstarter supporters get free postage and at least £5 off our RRP. We’ve put together some great options for you in our rewards, including a couple of cheaper options, like tees, tote bags and vouchers.
We’d love you to join us in making this happen, all pledges will be a huge support.
Jeans are a staple of most women’s wardrobes and we want you to put them on each day and know that you look fabulous! So don’t forget to hit share to share with your friends and help us hit our target! LKLx
Risks and challenges
This is the first time we’ve worked with this denim supplier and whilst we have done our utmost to check out the company, make sure we’re happy with what they offer and done checks and tests on the fabrics there is always an element of risk with new suppliers.
We’ll be importing the fabric ourselves using a freight agent, again this is a first time for this task, so we will need to learn as we go, though we have done as much research and sought as much expert advice as possible and are confident in our choice of freight agent and the fabric supplier’s ability to navigate customs and the logistics.
The jeans themselves will be made at our specialist factory in the UK who have always made our jeans so we have a good history with this factory and trust them to finish the work to a high standard and in a timely manner.
We feel the risks are minimal and we have a strong supply chain in place to fulfil, foresee and support should anything go wrong. Any issues that do arise will be dealt with swiftly. We’ve been working with our factory for 3 years now on production, and have overcome numerous challenges previously. We’ve confident in our ability to avoid problems and find solutions should they arise.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
