Lacey & Lily #1 and 2 - a girl and her dog saving the world
Lacey's just your average middle schooler - running late for class, stressing over homework, and saving the world with her dog, Lily.
"I loved the comics, I wish something like Lacey and Lily had been around when I was younger." - Katherine of The Nerdy Girl Express
Lacey & Lily is a comic book series about a middleschooler and her dog who, after finding a pair of super suits, keep their city safe from super-villainy, disaster, and bullies. This is an all-ages comic that blends the fun of silver-age silliness and pure heroics with modern storytelling in a format that is suitable for kids of all ages.
Lacey, through her actions both in and out of costume, shows that it doesn't matter your size, age, gender - that anyone has the makings of a hero.
The money we raise will be used to produce and print the first two-issues of Lacey & Lily as full-color, 24 page comic books.
Up to now, Lacey & Lily has been available only digitally and through VERY small print runs (under 100) that we have self-financed for convention appearances. However, small print runs cost more and that always means charging more. The money raised from this Kickstarter will allow us to produce a much larger print run, which means getting the books in the hands of more readers around the world, which is exactly what we want.
These two issues provide the first half of what will ultimately be a four-chapter introduction story to Lacey & Lily. In issue 1, readers are thrown into the middle of a large-scale alien invasion and battle that Lacey herself tells us we've jumped into too late and will have to get to later.
From there, we back up to the day Lacey and her mom were returning from cleaning out her grandmother's house after her passing. Her grandmother's dog, Lily, has come to live with them, and when the two discover some costumes in Gramma's old trunk, the adventure begins and the mystery unfolds.
Finding the suits give them both super powers, Lacey & Lily begin helping around their city with everything from bullies, cats in trees, to helping little old ladies cross the street - you know, the things heroes do.
But when a super-villain strikes at the middle school spelling bee, Lacey & Lily go up against their first (but certainly not last) arch-criminal, The Wordsmith!
Adults and kids alike clamor to see the new hero, who reminds the adults of the city's hero of yesteryear, The Emerald Comet - even though it's a moniker Lacey isn't too keen to inherit.
But can she juggle homework, school life, mean girls, her best friend's prattling, and saving the world daily? She's about to find out.
Lacey & Lily was created by the team of illustrator Andrew Cieslinski and writer Dave Dellecese. Story editor for the series is Megan McCoy-Dellecese.
Andrew's art has brought to life not only the world of Lacey & Lily, but was recently seen in The Tellos revival honoring the late, great Mike Wieringo and the more adult-oriented comedy comic book series, Holidaze. Energized at the prospect of doing work for children, families, and all-ages, Andrew has fully embraced the super heroics in every panel he draws of Lacey and Lily.
Megan is a freelance writer and editor, a full-time certified school librarian, as well as a full-time mom. She puts up with quite a lot. And that's just living with Dave, not even touching upon her role as Story Editor for Lacey & Lily.
Risks and challenges
The nice thing is, the art, coloring, lettering, all of it, is complete for the first two issues of Lacey & Lily. So, with the exception of special additions/pages to be added following this Kickstarter campaign (Thank you pages, ad spaces), it's set to go off to the printers.
Once we approve of the printer's proof, it's just a matter of waiting on finished copies to be produced and sent to us and then it's off and into your hands!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
