Since its blood-soaked release in 2012, Hotline Miami has become a game as beloved for its dark, pulsating soundtrack as it is for its dense, addictive gameplay. Set against the backdrop of an alternate 1989 Miami, the game follows a mysterious masked anti-hero, known only as Jacket, as he embarks on a murderous rampage at the behest of the voices on his answering machine.
Relentless in its brutal, sensory assault, the soundtrack fuses together a multitude of electronic artists to create a brooding ode to the dark, rain-slicked streets of pulp 80s cinema. Already considered a modern classic, a vinyl release of the soundtrack has been clamoured for by fans since the very beginning, so we’re here to give it to you.
This special first pressing collector’s edition of the Hotline Miami soundtrack on vinyl is limited to 5,000 copies, exclusive to backers. Featuring remastered versions of all 22 tracks from the original game, this collector’s edition also includes 4 new bonus tracks from Perturbator, M|O|O|N, El Huervo and Jasper Byrne.
Spread across three 12” 180 gram discs, the soundtrack comes packaged in a deluxe gatefold sleeve featuring brand new cover artwork by original Hotline Miami artist Niklas Akerblad, depicting the demise of the enigmatic Jacket. Addtional artwork is provided by Protski, an artist hand-picked by Dennaton Games whose neon-drenched depiction of the Masks adorns the inner sleeve. Limited edition screen prints of each artists’ designs are available to tier-four backers, and above.
This project is a collaboration between Laced Records, Dennaton Games, and Devolver Digital to produce a definitive, collector’s edition of the original Hotline Miami soundtrack. We wanted to give fans the chance to help it finally come to fruition, and guarantee themselves a first pressing of one of the best soundtracks out there. We've spent the last few months working with Dennaton and the many artists featured to create something the fans can love, but we need your help to let us know this is something the community wants, and to help fund the production on a larger scale.
We turned to Kickstarter to gauge interest and build support from Hotline Miami fans. We’re really excited about the record, and we hope you share our enthusiasm so that we can make this project a success.
Dennaton are the dynamic duo of Jonatan Söderström and Dennis Wedin! Debut title Keyboard Drum-Set F**king Werewolf marked the beginning of a beautiful friendship, and soon led to the creation of Hotline Miami, the cult, top-down shooter that earned critical acclaim in 2012. The sequel, Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number, was released in 2015 and continued to build the pair’s notoriety for producing visceral, hyper-stylised video games. They are based in Sweden.
Devolver Digital is a boutique game label operating out of Austin and London known for their work on Hotline Miami, Shadow Warrior, Broforce, The Talos Principle, Downwell and the Serious Sam series. They also make a mean brisket.
Established in 2015, Laced Records has made a quick and lasting impression on the industry, managing the licensing and commercial release of video game music, including bespoke PR and marketing for the artists and composers. In its first year, Laced’s roster has included soundtracks from NOCT (Robin Finck – Nine Inch Nails, Guns N Roses), Hard West (Marcin Przybyłowicz – The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, The Vanishing of Ethan Carter), OlliOlli2 (BAFTA nominated game), Volume (David Housden – BAFTA nominated composer of Thomas Was Alone) and Curve Digital’s Pumped BMX.
Risks and challenges
While we feel that we have a solid plan in place to ensure that we deliver finished goods with quality and in a timely manner, every project can – and often will – face challenges along the way, so we want to make sure that we address any potential issues up front. With vinyl’s recent resurgence in popularity, the high demand at pressing plants can cause delays, but we have a brilliant manufacturing partner and a team on the ground to ensure everything runs as smoothly as possible. As ever, there could also be unforeseen delays to shipping, though we feel that we are more than prepared to resolve these challenges if ever they should arise, and have done our best to plan ahead to ensure things stay on track. Lastly, slight changes to the final designs may apply, though we will be sure to keep backers updated regularly should any alterations be considered.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
