Dear Friends and Family,
I want to take this moment, to personally thank you for the incredible amount of support - from the middle of Ohio, Hawaii, Europe to California. At a time when public arts funding is being cut, we are extremely grateful for the Create/Cultivate LA County Arts Commission Grant opportunity, in conjunction with your personal contribution. All of your contributions will be doubled with the Create/Cultivate matching grant!
At this time, if you have not contributed yet, or know someone who would like to support - there are definite parts of the project that need additional funding, and as we surpass our Kickstarter goal, this funding will go towards:
- professional lighting technician
- book publication & graphic designer
- book publication costs
- professional filmographer and HD video and sound editor for additional video component
Again, what is most inspiring about this Kickstarter, is the visibility that is given to a diverse, and wide group of arts supporters. Thank you immensely for all of your support and hope to see you next summer 2012 at LACE!
All my best,
LACE is thrilled to announce we have commissioned Los Angeles artist Gina Osterloh to create a major installation project entitled Group Dynamics & Improper Light.
Osterloh constructs life-size room environments and activates them through still serial performances, paper-maché models, and cardboard cutouts. Group Dynamics and Improper Light is a large scale project that will explore the relationships between abstraction and identity, the space between individuals, and what determines “a group” within a social context.
For her residency at LACE, she will move her entire studio practice into the main gallery in June 2012, and construct three bodies of work from start to finish. During this time the gallery will be open to the public and Gina will be engaging with visitors as part of her process, as well as through a series of hands-on workshops.
Wide Group Dynamic poster, yours for a gift of $50!
We invite you to become involved in the realization of Group Dynamics and Improper Light. I am hoping you will make a special gift to support Gina’s commission. To add to the excitement, we have a matching grant.
This means for every dollar donated through Kickstarter, it will be doubled!
Turquoise Room #1, yours for only $250!
For a gift as little as $10, you will receive recognition for your contribution on the LACE website, as well as regular e-mail updates from the artist about her progress with the project. For a gift of $50 you’ll get a personalized thank-you note from Gina, and a signed copy of her limited edition poster Wide Group Dynamic. Please refer to the pledge levels to find what’s right for you.
No matter how much you give, you can rest assured knowing that your donation will be doubled, and that your gift will go directly to funding Gina’s project.
If My Face Was A Line Drawing for $750!
This commission marks a new arc in Osterloh’s career. Group Dynamics & Improper Light will be the first time the artist’s process is made public – her meticulous set construction, how each set is dependent upon her 4x5 large format camera, lighting decisions, and experimentation with materials. Please join us in supporting this remarkable project today!
Cut Room Loose is yours for $3,500!
Group Dynamics & Improper Light will be possible through the generosity of individual supporters and a matching grant provided by Cultivate/Create, a new program funded by the National Endowment for the Arts and by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors through the Los Angeles County Arts Commission.
