Lab2014 - Part 3 - Questions and Answers

Posted by Laboratory (Creator)

So we wanted to answer some questions that we've been getting.

When can we get Shift Season 2?

The straight answer is once more people know about Shift. The contest stuff helps with that. Playing games with friends helps. Anything that spreads the word increases the likelihood we can make it work!

It's our hope that between ease of being able to try the game with the app and generating more awareness for our quirky little game, we can make Season 2 make sense. We still have a really small audience in the increasingly crowded world of games. I marvel at how many great games are coming out every day! We know what we'd like to do for Season 2 now, but the time isn't right... yet.

So what are you working on?

We pride ourselves on our ability to make different kinds of games and make them well. But after making Shift, we have a better idea of what's involved in manufacturing and distributing a game to lots and lots of people.

We've got a new microgame, and version of it is ACTUALLY going on the back of Sam's business card.

Province: The Reveal

Province is a building game. Sam wanted to tackle a pure eurogame, and he came up with a really fun mechanic involving the circulation of workers to generate resources. We think it's a winner! It's a robust two player game and plays in about 25 minutes.

And it'll cost only $5 shipped.

And it will ship very quickly. Three week campaign, no crazy stretch goals, no add-ons, just a better product. We're going to need this thing to spread like wildfire, so we've made a great game that we think is an incredible deal. We're hoping to launch the campaign within a couple weeks, and we hope we can count most of you as future backers!

If that does well we may also relaunch our game EJiPT in a similar format.

We've also been working on some digital game prototypes. More on that soon. All the more reason to follow us on the social stuffs and sign-ups for the newzes! That and the Sharfton Promo Card contest.

Speaking of...

Is the Sharfton contest just for backers?

No. Anyone can enter. Prizes will scale to the number of entries. If we get enough entries we'll also offer some non-Sharfton stuff!

How long do we have? When does it end?

Probably the end of February? We'll announce it ahead of time.

If I already entered, can I add stuff later?

Yes. Yes, you can.

Is that the only way ever to get a Sharfton of our very own?

Not necessarily. If we keep moving forward with Shift, Sharfton will probably end up being a more general reward card, though this particular signed version will be exclusive to the contest. He's a weird card, and really a novelty - like most good promos! - but we think he makes a good 'cool thing to get'.

Any more Shift news?

We'll be updating the existing rulebook very soon with some fixes for typos and a clarification that "Turn Start" also clears the effects of abilities, not just mods. We'll also be working on the requested 8.5" x 11" layout soon as well.

The App

We're still doing our best to get the app out during February.

Did Sam make

Yes. Yes, he did!

Wait! My question wasn't answered!

Then post it in the comments!

What an update. Do you need to lay down? We do. Phew. Wait! No time!

Jeff: As I said, we've had very a very serious discussion about doing it as a microgame. If Province does well, there is a good chance of seeing it return in that format.

Steven: I'll be submitting the campaign tonight or tomorrow. Probably next week. Probably the 11th. I'll get noisy once it's imminent.

Province looks fun. When will it be on Kickstarter?

      I still really Liked EgYpt

If I don't get a Sharfton my head might explode. Must have!
